In accordance with the provisions of Section 65.5 of theAgricultural Code, I hereby submit the annual crop reportof Lake County for the year 1953.

Lake County is situated about i00 miles north of the Bayarea in the mountainous region between the coast countiesand the Sacramento Valley. Its land area is about 812,160within

L¢~e,covering an area of 41,000 acres.

acres. Clear =’ Lake County, is the largest lake

the boundaries of the state,

The grand total for 1953 is @2,693,24~ less than that of 1952;PMA payments and timber income which account for ~519,400 ofthis reduction have been deleted from this year,s report. Theannual value of some of the agricultural crops for the year1953 is considerably less than 1952 because of heavy frostdamage to deciduous fruits and nuts and considerably lowerprices for beef as compared to last year.

The amounts shown as farm income in this report are grossfigures; no deductions have been made for cost of production.

Gentlemen:

This annual crop report depicts the acreage, production, and value of various crops grown in

Lake County. The price figures represent gross income and DO NOT take into consideration

the cost of production, harvesting, and marketing.

F.O.B. prices have been used this year on fresh pears to conform with the statewide program

of crop reporting. These prices include the handling and pacldng house cost of $80.00 per ton.

The art work on our cover is another Lake County product, by Mr. Lee Fidge of Lower Lake.

I wish to express my sincere appreciation to the many individuals who have assisted by

furnishing the necessary information to make this report possible.

The data used in this report was assembled by

Warren F. Cruickshank, Senior Agricultural Inspector.

Gentlemen:

This ammal crop report depicts the acreage, production, and value of various crops grown in

Lake County for 1961. The price figures represent gross value and DO NOT take into

consideration the cost of production, harvesting, or packing.

F.O.B. prices have been used again this year on fresh fruit to conform with the statewide

program of crop reporting. 1961 was high quality year for Bartlett pears in Lake County with

over 85 percent of the crop making No. 1 grade. Wahmts were also high quality but size was

very poor. Lower price this year affected the return fcr our number two tree crop.

I wish to express my sincere appreciation to the many individuals who have assisted by

furnishing the necessary information to make this report possible.

The data used in this report was gathered and assembled by W. F. Cruickshank,

Senior Agricultural Inspector.

Gentlemen:

In compliance with the provisions of Section 2279 of the California Foodand Agricultural Code, I am pleased to submit the Lake County AgriculturalCrop Report for the calendar year 1981. Lake County’s ~ross yalue for 1981agricultural crops totaled $37,157,310, a 0.7% increase of $267,865 over theprevious year and a new high for Lake County.

Pears continue to be the leading agricultural crop in Lake County with a grossvalue of $18,407,905. This value is up $126,670 over the previous year, primarilydue to fresh pack pear prices were up a bit and tonnages nearly equal to theprevious year. A greater amount of the processed pears went to juice in 1981.Walnut prices were up a bit and total yield down somewhat from last year, thustotaling $4,278,295. Grape yields and tonnage continue to increase as morevineyards mature. Tonnage unit prices increased somewhat over last year because

more of the ~ite grape variety tonnages are reflected in this year’s total cropof $3,603,160. Kiwi production has become significant enough in production andnumbers of growers producing that I have reported it as a separate crop itemthis year in the amount of $268,500 on 89.5 tons.

Field crops were about the same production, with inclusion of a new crop (wildrice). This increase amounted to $14,280 over the previous year.

Livestock values were down somewhat from last year. Unit prices were down oncattle and sheep. Sheep numbers are increasing slightly as more small familyfarm units occur and provide a livestock enterprise along with an off-farm

job. Aquaculture dropped off in production substantially from the previous year.

I must emphasiz e that this Crop Report represents ro~ya!ues of agriculturalproducts and doe___~s not reflect costs of producing these crops nor a net returnto the grower.

The Department sincerely appreciates the cooperation of the many growers, packing houses, vintners, livestock producers and various other producers insupplying the information necessary for this report.

Respectfully submitted,

Don Tompkins

Agricultural Commissioner

Gentlemen:

The annual crop report for Lake County depicts theacreage, production, and value of the various crops forthe year 1965. The prices represent gross productionand do not take into consideration the cost of production, harvesting, or packing. F.O.B. prices are used on freshfruit to conform with the statewide policy program ofcrop reporting.

Pear production was low in 1965 due to unfavorableweather conditions during blooming season. Walnuts wereslightly below average, resulting in a below averageoverall total value of agricultural crops in Lake County.

I express my sincere appreciation to all who havecontributed the information to make this report possible.

Gentlemen:

The annual crop report for Lake County depicts the acreage, production, and value of the various crops. The prices expressthe economic value to Lake County but do not express the netvalue to growers and producers.

The 1967 pear production was about 50 percent less than1966 but higher prices stabilized the end result. Walnut pro-duction was also low because of adverse weather factors, aswith most commodities. F.O.B. prices are used on fresh fruitto conform with the statewide program of crop reporting.

I wish to express my thanks to all who have contributed theinformation necessary for the data in this report.

Gentlemen:

The value of Lake County agricultural production for 1969was second highest on record but somewhat less than lastyear. Pear and walnut prices were du~¢n and tne walnutcrop was light. Prices shown are F.O.b and representonly the value of the products ready for ,~arket. Thedollar turnover required for production is not included.

Grapes are shown separately for the first time this yearand are expected to show considerable increase in the

next few years. Livestoc]: production and value continuesto increase. Quality of purebred stock competes with thebest on the market.

My thanks to the qrowers, shippers, and all others whocontributed the information necessary for this reportwhich was compiled by Deputy Commissioner Charles Lipska.

Sincerely,

Charles L. GeobleAgricultural Commissioner
