Quick Thinking by City and County of Denver Parks and Recreation Employees

On Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at 10:17 a.m., Parks and Recreation employees Ellis Jackson, Joe Alire, Max Sigala Jr., Robert Gorham, and Eddie Fischer were changing filters in Jeppesen Terminal. An electrical fixture shorted-out near Door 616 while they were working. The fixture sent sparks to the floor setting a mat on fire. Jackson ran to the ticket counter and asked for a fire extin-guisher. He then ran back and put the fire out while the other workers ensured passengers stayed clear.

Airport Security would like to commend these employees for a job well done.

Jeppesen Terminal South and North Passenger Screening Checkpoint Lanes

On July 11, 2011, the TSA officially opened two additional Passenger Screening Checkpoint Lanes. The TSA has a total of 30 Passenger Screening Checkpoint Lanes. The addition of the two lanes will better facilitate customer flow from Jeppesen Terminal to the gate areas.

Employee Access Portals in Jeppesen Terminal

In early winter 2011, Denver International Airport expects comple-tion of an employee turnstile at both the North and South Passenger Screening Checkpoints. The employee turnstiles will resemble the Employee Airside Access Portals, which will require the use of employee verification via a DEN Airport ID badge and biometric.

The employee access portal is only for employees reporting to work (cannot be used when traveling on a flight). Watch for more information on this news in the coming weeks.

New Participant Sponsorship FormAirport Security has revised the

Participant Sponsorship Form. The new form can either be picked up at one of the Airport Security Badging Offices or found on the Airport’s Business Center Web site: http://business.flydenver.com. The new

form has a revised date of 8/1/2011. We will continue to accept the old form, until 10/1/2011. The changes to the form will allow the Airport Security Office to provide better customer service to all companies conducting business at the airport.

Congratulations TSA Federal Security Director Chris McLaughlinThe Airport Security Office would like to congratulate Federal Security

Director Chris McLaughlin on his recent promotion within the TSA to assis-tant administrator for security operations.

Welcome Admiral James Schear – New TSA Federal Security DirectorOn August 22, 2011, TSA Administrator John Pistole announced that Admiral

James Schear had been selected to replace Chris McLaughlin as the FSD for Denver International Airport. Admiral Schear had previously been the FSD at the Colorado Springs Municipal Airport and the liaison with US NORTHCOM.
