Assessment and accreditation of The Kagal Education Society‟s D. R. Mane
Mahavidyalaya, Kagal by the NAAC was made in Jan-2004. Internal Quality
Assurance Cell which was established in 2004 is working for the enhancement
of quality in every activity of the college. The IQAC of the college consists of

In order to direct the efforts of the institution towards the academic
quality and good governance, the IQAC prepared the plan of action for the
year 2010-11 in the month of April 2010. This action plan was prepared by
IQAC after the detailed discussions with the faculty and non-teaching staff.

The plan of action for the year 2010-11
A) Teaching Learning and Evaluation
1. Classroom teaching to be commenced from 3rd
week of June, 2010 as
per the academic plan to be submitted by the teachers at the beginning.
2. Remedial Coaching Committee to commence, remedial and extra
coaching to the students in the subject English, Accountancy,
Economics etc. appearing for October- 2010 examinations.
3. Career Oriented Course- E-commerce, Personality Development and
English Communication Skills, Translation Proficiency in English to
begin from Sept, 2010.
4. Along with academics curricular and extra-curricular activities to be
undertaken during the year is mentioned in the institutional calendar.

Outcome achieved in the year 2010-11
1. Teaching Learning and Evaluation
i. Regular classroom teaching during the year was completed as per the
academic plan submitted by the teachers.
ii. Different teaching methodologies are used by teachers to make the
teaching learning process more interesting.
iii. Industrial visits were arranged by the department of commerce and
department of economics.
iv. Educational visit to forts, museum and historical places was arranged
by the department of history.
v. Educational visits were arranged by the different department by the
college.

vi. Bridge course in English, Remedial coaching, extra coaching to the
students appearing were conducted.

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution:
Mission:-
The College has adopted the mission of making the students good citizens
with good values dedicated to eradicate „Durit‟ i.e. evil tendencies in the
society.
Goals:-
In order to realize the mission, the college has set specific goals such as
providing opportunity of higher education to the students from rural and
hilly areas and particularly female and students from disadvantaged section
of the society, achieving overall personality development of the students,
acting as a centre for social, cultural and intellectual development of the
present as well as ex-students, updating teaching-learning –evaluation
process, arranging curricular and extra-curricular activities enabling the
students to be in tune with the changing academic and social conditions.
Every activity in the college has been organized keeping in view the mission
and goals.
A) As the college is working in Rural and hilly areas, providing opportunity
to rural students and particularly to the female students and students from
the disadvantaged section from the society is one of the goal of the
institution. During this year the students from 35 villages around the
Kagal are admitted to the College. Along with female the numbers of
SC/ST and OBC category students is as below.

B) As the college is working in Rural and hilly areas. Providing opportunity
to the students from the disadvantaged section of the society is one of the
goals of the institution. This year the students from SC/ST and OBC
category are 21% of the total students. The college provides remedial
coaching to these students under the UGC scheme of remedial coaching
to SC/ST category students.
C) For creating awareness about social issues among the students, following
activities are undertaken.
i) On July 11, observed A World Population Day by arranging a lecture
on the subject “Population and Economic Development” of Prof. U.S.
Rasal, Head, Dept. of Economics, D.R. Mane Mahavidyalaya, Kagal.
ii) Celebration of Birth Anniversary of Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, a social
reformer on 26th June 2010.
iii) Observed Hiroshima Day as Anti Nuclear weapon Day by Vivek
Vahini and a lecture was delivered on „Atomic Weapons and World
Peace‟ by Shri. Shankar Patil, Sangli.
iv) Celebration of Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by arranging
Elocution Competition, jointly by Dept. of Political Science &
History.
v) NSS volunteers has actively participated in Shramdan activities
throughout the year and participated in Ten day special camp at
adopted village Lingnur Dumala, Tal-Kagal.
vi) Observed the Constitution day- 26th
November by organizing a lecture
on „Objectives Content & Expectations‟ by Prof. A.H. Pharane.
vii) Organized by Saheli Manch a lecture on „Selection of Life Partner‟ by
Smt. Tanjuja Shippurkar

D) For development of personality and also as a part of character building of
the students the college has undertaken following activities.
i) Educational tours and field visits organized by different departments
provides an opportunity to relate theoretical knowledge to the practical
one.
ii) Saheli Manch has organized different short term courses for girl
students as an activity for empowerment of women.
iii) Department of Economics has published wallpapers, arranged Essay
and Elocution competition, Trekking Programme & Visit to Social
Forestry throughout the year.
iv) Library organized Best Reader competition and Book Review
Competition for the students.
v) Department of English Literary Association arranged workshops and
paper presentation by the students and published two wallpapers
during the year.
vi) Participation of students in Zonal Sports and also in Inter University
and at National Level Sports, gave an opportunity for development of
their personality.
vii) Likewise, different co-curricular activities organized by different
committees and departments were student centered and have definitely
helped to improve the personality.
E) To create work culture and dignity of labour amongst the students the
following activities were conducted –
i) NSS Shramdaan at college campus and adopted village Lingnur
Dumala throughout the year.
ii) Seven day NSS special camp at village Lingnur Dumala and Cleaning
roads, Widening of roads, digging latrine pits, Removing
encroachments, etc.

These Associations undertake various activities throughout the year to
bridge the gap between the purely academic activities and practical life
around. Thus efforts are made to link the theoretical part of the syllabus to
the applied aspect of the same.
The draft curriculum of any subject is sent to the colleges by the
University for Providing Suggestions if any. The draft curriculum received
from the University is placed for discussion in the department of concerned
subject.
The curricula of various subjects are designed by the Boards of studies in
the particular subjects in the Shivaji University. For the proper
understanding of the objectives behind the curriculum and for the smooth

organized by different colleges in association with the university. Our

40 marks are conducted twice during the year and for remaining 10 marks

The college has two N.S.S. units of 100 students each. The primary objective
of NSS is to nurture respect for social commitment, social service, dignity of
manual labour and love for the Nation amongst the students.

Special Camp –

During this camp, special emphasis was laid on the objective of creating
„respect for manual work‟ among the students. The manual work done
during the camp is estimated to be worth Rs. 67,000/-.
Among other programmes for community service includes de-addiction,
of women‟s empowerment, „save daughters‟ health awareness and Water
Conservation.
II. Vivek Vahini (2010-11)
Vivek Vahini, an extension unit of „Maharashtra Andhashraddha
Nirmulan Samittee‟ (A committee for eradication of superstitions, sponsored
by the Government of Maharashtra) is formed on 27th September 2002 with
the objective to create and cultivate scientific attitude amongst students and

On the occasion of „Hiroshima Day‟ a lecture „Anvastre aani Jagatik

As a part of the World Aids Day programme, a speech by Mr. Mohan
Satapute, Indian Red Cross Society, Kolhapur on „HIV AIDS- Stigma
and Discrimination‟ was arranged on 2nd Dec. 2010. Mr. Sambhaji Patil
– „HIV Positive Person in this programme narrated his experiences on
„HIV -Stigma & Discrimination‟ and question-answer session was
followed.

21. Improvements in the library services:
Library is the heart of educational institution. It plays very important role
in teaching and learning environment. The quality of library depends upon
the qualitative books. So the library lays more emphasis on purchasing
different reference books along with the text books on different subjects.
Budgeting and fund allocation :-
The library budget for books and journals depends on the UGC grants on
development and the library fees received from the students (at the rate of
Rs.50/- per student). For the academic year 10-11, the regular library budget
was Rs.52,800- and the UGC grants received were Rs/-2,00,000/- for
Remedial Coaching course, Rs. 2,00,000/- for Entry in Services and Rs.
1,37,000/- for basic development and Rs. 40,000/- for Journals and Rs.
2,24,345/- for a 820 Reference books & 17 CD‟s (E-books) were received
from UGC under Carrere Oriented Course. Thus the total budget for the
year was Rs.8, 54,145/-.

Library Services :-
The library and Information services of higher institutions play a crucial
role in enhancing the quality of academic and research environments. The
library is the pillar of support for the entire range of academic activities in an
educational campus. In today's high-tech learning environment, the library as

a 'Learning Resource' is taking up increasingly more academic space and
time in the life of a learner.
Following services are rendered by the library -
Book Bank Scheme
Book Bank Scheme is being implemented by the library to prospective
and economically backward students. Many students are seeking the
advantage of this scheme. Under this scheme, text books are issued to the
students for a year. Every year, increasing response is being received from
the students.
In the year 2010-11, 137 students were the beneficiaries of this scheme
receiving 517 books.
Book Bank for Meritorious Students
The Scholar students which are coming from meritorious committee are
provided extra scholar cards on the reference book.
In the year 2010-11, 18 scholar students had taken advantage of 133 books
under the above scheme.
Other Membership
The college is situated in a rural area. Library facilities are extended also
to the general public of the surrounding locality as well as to the alumni of
the college pursuing their higher studies. The people of the locality are
issued books against deposit on a nominal service charge.
Library for Competitive Exams
The collage has established a separate cell of competitive examinations,
with the objective of all round personality development of the students. The
college library has many books on the relevant subjects. The books required
for the exams for the posts ranging from clerical to IAS/IPS are available
here. 16 students had taken advantage of 45 books under the scheme.

reference and general books, worth Rs.25,290/- from Kendriya Hindi
Nideshanalaya, New Delhi in the academic year. 195 books of Rs. 17,562/-
and 111 Magazines of Rs. 2,400/-were received under the UGC Grant for the
Minor Research Project to Dr. N.G. Joshi. 2 books of Rs. 320/- were
received from other donar.
Computerization of the Library
We decided to computerize our library. We are filling all the data of
library. Till today all books data has been filled completely.

Activities undertaken during the year 2010-11
Meeting of executive council Alumni Association was arranged on 22nd
Oct. 2010.
Gathering of Ex-students was organized on 27th Feb. 2010 and arranged
the lectures on the theme of “Civic Rights and Responsibilities” by Shri.
M.P. Sawant in which 55 Alumni Students were present.
For organizing different activities following subcommittees were
established – Committee for educational activities, Committee for Social
activity, Committee for Cultural activities, Committee for Sports
activities, Committee for Agriculture related activities.
31. Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher Association:
A meeting of „Parents of B.A.I & B.Com.I students‟ was held on 27th
March, 2011. In which Principal Dr. Praveen Chougale introduced the
different activities proposed by the college for achieving all round
personality development of the students.
A meeting of Mothers of all girls students was organized on 20th Jan.,
2011 in which a lecture on „Selecting Life-Partner‟ was delivered by Smt.
Tanuja Shippurkar and many participants participated in discussion.

A. For Community –
i. A Blood donation camp was jointly organized by the NSS and NCC Units
of the college on 23rd
December, 2010 in which 75 students donated the

„Swine Flu‟ was delivered by Dr. S.M. Sadilage and Dr. Nalavade
(Cottage Hospital, Kagal) on 10th Aug. 2010 at the time of prayer.
iii. Six NSS Volunteers participated in the study camp on Health and
Environment organized by Janswastha Dakshata Sameetee and Nisarg

In Shivaji University Kolhapur District Zonal Women Volley Ball
Competitions, the team of our college bagged second Prize.
ii. In Shivaji University Inter Zonal Women Volley Ball Competitions, the
team of our college bagged Third Prize.
iii. Miss Punde Ashwini Baburao (B.A.Part-I), Miss Dharpawar Priyanka
(B.A.Part-II), and Miss. Bhosale Harshala (B.Com.Part-II) these three
volley ball players selected in the Team of Shivaji University and
participated in the Ashwamedh Competition at Akola (Maharashtra) on

Co-operative Sugar Factory, Kagal on 19th July, 2010.
vii. Shri. Powar Sagar Ishwara (B.A.Part-I) participated in Maharashtra State
Para Olympics competition held at Nashik on 24th to 26
th Dec. 2010 and
won Bronze Medal in 200 Meter Running, Silver Medal in 400 Meter
Running and Gold Medal in Group Event Relay 4x100 Meter.

exam. P.S.I., L.I.C. & other exam. The forms of these examinations and
guidance, regarding these examinations as well as Books were provided
to the students who appeared in the competitive exams.
5. The college organized coaching classes for competitive examinations to
the target group with the help of Study Circle, Kolhapur.
C) Remedial Coaching for SC/ST Students
A UGC sponsored activity of providing remedial coaching to slow
learners from SC/ST, disadvantaged section of the society, and also to the
slow learners from Open category is conducted independently.
The basic objective to improve educational and language skill of the
students. During this year 110 students were selected as a target group.

A. Healthy Practices for Implementing Annual Teaching Plan
Preparing Annual Teaching Plan
The college has evolved the machinery for internal quality checks to
assess and ensure the completion of syllabi of all subjects. The
Committee of Teaching, Learning and Evaluation (TLE) invites yearly
teaching plan from teachers in the beginning of the academic year. The
TLE Committee has evolved a format for Annual Teaching plan to ensure
the uniformity.
Feedback for Annual teaching Plan
In order to ensure timely implementation of the teaching plan, the TLE
circulates the „Internal Check for syllabus completion‟ form to the
teachers for monthly checking of the completion of the Syllabi.
Instructions on Feedback
The Committee after going through the feedback gives instructions, if
necessary, to the faculty through HOD‟s. Then, the teachers concerned
try to remove the discrepancies in their work.
Feedback through Informal discussions
Moreover the informal discussions among the faculty are held regularly
and frequently either to introspect or to suggest measures for
improvement in the performance of each other.

The Suggestion Box is fixed on the wall inside the college. The box is
opened monthly for further actions. The suggestions given by the students
regarding teaching are taken positively, and the necessary suggestions for
improvement are given to the concerned teacher.

B. Healthy Practices to impart Value based education
It has been our objective to inculcate in the students the values of
national integration, equality, humanity, scientific temper, democracy,
socialism and secularism. In view of the above, objective the college has
undertaken following activities during the academic year 2010-11:
Celebrated the Birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaja of the
Kolhapur state, a well- known social reformer, by the Department of
History.
Morning Prayer on every Monday is arranged, which itself gives a
message of values to the students. on this occasion the felicitation of
outstanding students in sports, academics, and other activities is made
throughout the year. Teachers are also felicitated for their outstanding
work.
The College celebrated „Teacher‟s Day‟ on 5th
Sept. 2010, with the
involvement of the Students Council and other volunteer students. The
objective behind this activity was to inculcate respect for teachers in
the minds of students.
C. Healthy Practices to develop civic responsibilities amongst the
Students
Blood Donation Camp – 23rd December.
The Birth Anniversary of the founder of the Kagal Education Society,
Kagal, Late. Shri Y.D. Mane is observed as Blood Donation day every
year. The camp inaugurated with the speech of Principal Praveen
Chougale highlighting the contribution of shri Y.D.Mane tot the cause
of development of education in the Taluka of Kagal. In order to fulfill
the civic responsibility the college encouraged the students and Alumni

D. Healthy Practices for achieving All-round Personality Development
of students:
A. Saheli Vyaktimatva Vikas Manch:
For all round development of personality of girl students and to
remove inferiority complex amongst the girls especially from rural areas,
the college has established this Manch in 1998-1999. The Manch has
undertaken the following activities during the year 2010-11

The NSS unit plays a vital role in the all-round personality
development of the students through its various activities throughout the
year.
During the academic year 2010-11, 200 students are enrolled in this
unit. The unit has conducted activities of manual labour in the college
campus such as ground leveling, cleanliness of campus, grass cutting etc.
The 7 day special camp of NSS was held during the period 5th – 12
th Dec.
2010 in the village Lingnur Dumala, Taluka- kagal, Dist: Kolhapur. The
various activities during this 7 days helped the students to develop the
qualities of leadership, team work, co-operation, community service etc.
C. NCC
The training of NCC aims at developing leadership, courage,

E. Elocution & Essay competition committee -
Essay contest was arranged in the college in which 9 students
participated. In order to present a demonstration on Elocution skills a
lecture by Miss. Priti Shinde, Warna Mahavidyalaya, Warnanagar was
organized .

The college is led by enthusiastic and energetic Principal Dr. Praveen
Chougale, who is doing research on Total Quality Management. So
quality awareness is always up with everyone in the college, and there is
cordial relation amongst all the stakeholders of the college.

The college has submitted proposal for Additional Financial Grand in
which college proposes to develop infrastructure for ICT based Teaching
Learning. The college has decided to develop 14 classrooms under this
scheme.
3. Development of the English Language Lab
The college has planned to develop English Language Lab with the
Financial Assistance from UGC during the next year.
4. CC T.V. for better vigilance
The college plans to install CC T.V. in the college premises for better
vigilance and control.
