in Zimbabwe

Local context

• Subsistence farming plays a crucial role in the rural livelihoods of communal people in the the Marwendo village.

• In the face of climate change, rural households in the village are facing

challenges in meeting their daily food requirements

• Thus the need to practice or adopt smart agriculture, conservation

agriculture, diversification of livelihoods in the face of climate change

Current and near Impacts

Poor yields

Crop failures

Increased dependency on NR

Death of livestock

Long run large-scale impacts

Large scale degradation

Severe water scarcity

Severe droughts

Mitigating impacts

Diversification of livelihoods

Conservation farming

Investing in smart agriculture-huge financial capital

required makes this a mountain to climb. However with the

assistance of international

organizations this can be an area with huge

potential

Need for the community

to join hands with regional

global partners

Low carbon energy reserves????

Solar energy reserve access looks to be more viable option

These can be installed at household level, schools, clinics and other public places

High initial costs associated with solar energy-needs to be addressed

Future low-carbon sources????

This is another possible source,

however the initial start up cost can be a major set back…
