SHARE THE BEAUTY OF
YOUR COMMUNITY
WITH A FRESH AIR CHILD THIS
SUMMERCAPITAL DISTRICT - This summer, share the beauty of your community with a Fresh Air child while enjoy-ing the pure joys of summer in your own backyard! Thou-sands of volunteer host fam-ilies in rural, suburban, and small town communities across 13 states from Virginia to Maine and Canada open their hearts and homes to New York City children from low-income communities through The Fresh Air Fund’s Volunteer Host Family pro-gram. The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit agency, has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.8 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877. Host families open their homes to children who might not otherwise be able to enjoy a summer away from New York City. Fresh Air children experience sim-ple pleasures like running barefoot through the grass, swimming in a cool lake, and gazing at star-filled skies. Through the eyes of Fresh Air children, families often re-discover the beauty of their own communities. For more information on how you can make summer special for a Fresh Air child, contact Ten-niel Hansen at 518-441-4407 or visit The Fresh Air Fund at www.freshair.org.

WHEELCHAIR VAN
FUNDRAISER FOR KEITH
WHITECAPITAL DISTRICT - Keith White JR was diagnose with Hydro-cephalus when he was born. Keith has overcome many ob-stacles in his life. Keith’s disabil-ity is related to a serious brain malformation that left him with intellectual disabilities such as cerebral palsy, vision and hear-ing concerns, epilepsy and fre-quent aspiration pneumonia, temperature regularity, seizure disorder, frequent suctioning, shunt in place and the loss of movement. He frequently re-quires home-based IV antibi-otic treatment every 6 hours for respiratory infections, he is also on supplemental Oxy-gen therapy via nasal cannula 24/7. Keith does not attend a program or school due to his disability, He is in need of a wheelchair van to improve the quality of care and transporta-tion to and from the Doctors and hospital. We currently lift him in and out of the car when we go out to the Dr’s, hospital or any outings. Keith’s current weight is 88 lbs, and his chair that we lift in and out of the car is 120 lbs. We have 2 other chil-dren, a boy who is 10 and a girl who is 16, they help us out a lot when it comes to their brother, sometimes we have to take one of them with us on Keith’s DR apt to help with suctioning him when he needs it or help carry his Oxygen into the apt. We try to make their lives as normal as possible with activities and ev-eryday life, but it’s not easy for any of us. Keith is always keep-ing us on our toes, we thank the lord and we cherish every day we have to spend with him. So we are asking everyone to share our story and help us with our fundraiser for a wheel-chair van. Thank you we hope to see everyone at the Benefit. On August 24th. CALLING ALL MENTORS!
CAPITAL DISTRICT - I am I can is a 501(c)3 organiza-tion that was created to mentor girls in grades 9 - 12. Programs provide needed encouragement, guidance and advocacy to students as they navigate their high school years and move to-ward post-graduation goals. We are seeking adult female mentors to work with stu-dents on a weekly basis. As a mentor you would spend time with and get to know your student, while develop-ing a relationship that pro-vides support and guidance. If you are looking for some meaningful volunteer work, this may be for you. This pro-gram focuses not as much on job skill mentoring, but more on providing a posi-tive role model in the stu-dent’s life. You will help the student to develop core val-ues and “encourage young women to discover their dreams, to believe in endless possibilities while empower-ing them to make it happen”. The organization is currently looking for mentors in the Clifton Park to Glens Falls areas. Immediate needs are to support girls in Hudson Falls, South Glens Fall, Glens Falls, Shenendehowa, and Ballston Spa school districts. PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN (Never known to fail). Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con-ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me, I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. Favor granted. T.C.

Inspired by this con-fidence, I fly unto thee. Women leave jobs for vari-ous reasons. Some women cite disparities in pay, an in-ability to advance through the company or incompati-bility with a particlar place of business as their reasons for seeking new employment, while others leave jobs to take time off for family obli-gations, only to reenter the workforce at a later time.
The Bureau of Labor Statis-tics say the average person changes jobs 10 to 15 times (with an average of 11 job changes) over the course of a career. Reports about em-ployees in Fortune 500 com-panies have found, while women make up nearly 50 percent of these companies, they represent just 7.5 per-cent of top earners. Dissat-isfaction with their income encourages some women to look for greener pastures.
Transitioning between jobs is common, but profession-als can take certain steps to ensure their transition works out for them and does not burn any bridges along they way.
* Have a defi nitive reason for leaving. It’s foolish to change jobs on a whim. Be clear about why you are leaving and whether problems can be remedied by speaking up or if leaving for another com-pany really is the best solu-tion. Having fi rm reasons for your resignation will enable you to leave with more con-fi dence and conviction.
* Provide enough notice to the company. If you have been working in a particu-larly poor environment, it may be tempting to run out the door even before your written resignation has fi nished printing. This may not bode well for fu-ture recommendations and leave your name tarnished within the industry. Instead, give ample notice and fi nd a mutually acceptable win-dow of time in which your position will be fi lled. While
SWITCH JOBS WITH GRACE AND DECORUM
two weeks is standard, some positions may require more or less time. It’s best not to drag your exit out too long though.
* Meet with your boss fi rst. Don’t let a boss fi nd out about your intentions to leave the company through the workplace gossip mill. It is always more professional to keep plans to yourself and show your boss the re-spect of hearing about your decision to leave fi rst. Do so in person and not over the phone or via email.
* Continue to do your job to the best of your abilities. Giv-ing notice is not a ticket to goofi ng off or participating in an offi ce vacation. Slack-ing off damages good will and is a surefi re way to burn some bridges. Put in your best eff ort until the day you leave the company behind.
* Avoid making negative comments. When discuss-ing your reasons for leaving, be diplomatic but honest. Similarly, do not talk poorly about your former job to your new employer. You may inadvertently portray yourself as a disgruntled em-ployee. Furthermore, word travels fast within many in-dustries, and a loose tongue may compromise future net-working opportunities.
* Maintain decorum even if it was not your idea to leave. Being fi red or downsized
can hurt, particularly when you thought you were doing a good job. Remain cool and always be professional. How you conduct yourself when facing adversity could speak well to your future employ-ers.
William Shakespeare may have said that a person is re-membered for his entrances and exits, and this is particu-larly true in the workforce. When it is time to leave an employment position for a new one, do so with grace and humility.

Using a cell phone, texting and drinking alcoholic beverages are all activities that can lead to fi nes or arrest if done while in a moving vehicle. But in some areas, it is already illegal or may soon be, to smoke in a vehicle if in the presence of children.
Since 2006, several communi-ties across North America have implemented laws to prevent smoking in cars when children are present, and campaigns for smoke-free car laws are poised to continue.
The public has become in-creasingly aware that there is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Second-hand smoke, also known as environmental tobacco smoke, includes the smoke that a smoker exhales and the smoke that comes from burning to-bacco products. Thousands of toxic chemicals are present in secondhand smoke, including formaldehyde, lead, butane, cyanide, and carbon monox-ide. These dangerous chemi-cals can be inhaled and tend to linger in the air for hours or longer. Smoke residue also clings to a smoker’s body and hair and can even surface in-side of a home or vehicle, ac-cording to The Mayo Clinic.
Asthma, heart disease and cancer may result from con-tact with secondhand smoke. When someone smokes within the small enclosed space of a car, passengers are exposed to air that is many times more tox-ic than what the EPA considers hazardous air quality, even if a window is down. What’s more, the particulates of tobacco smoke that are absorbed in the upholstery off -gas back into the air even after many days have passed, exposing riders
THE DANGER OF SMOKING WHILE DRIVING
to toxins well beyond when someone smoked in the car.
The developing bodies of children and their small stat-ure put youngsters at risk for greater complications from cigarette smoke, although any passenger is at risk.
Laws vary depending on loca-
tion and typically apply to chil-dren ages 16 and under. Smok-ers are urged to quit smoking for their health and the health of others. But those who con-tinue to smoke should refrain from smoking when inside a vehicle, especially when chil-dren are present.
