OPENDISCUSSIONSREGARDINGDAMAGEPREVENTIONAWARENESS&COOPERATIONMitziAmbush(PEPCO)reportedtwoelectrichitsatMontgomeryandPrinceGeorge’sCountyschools.Thecontractorsdidnotprocessexcavationticketsastheyfelttherewasnoneedsincetheywereworkingonprivateproperty.MitziexplainedthatPEPCOandotherutilityownershaveburiedlinesonprivatepropertyandthestatelawsrequireaMissUtilityticketwhereeverdiggingistakingplace.

DavidBall(HowardCounty)statedthatHowardCountyDPWwasexperiencingdamagestotheirsewerplant.DavidreportedthatHowardCountyrequiresaminimumclearanceofZivefeetofseparationforanyinstallationintheirwaterandsewereasements.DavidprovidedtheregulationsforHowardCountyasfollows;

DoraParks(MissUtility)reportedthatrevisedMD/DCDamagePreventionGuideshavebeenorderedthatwillincludetheneweradditionto12-111(MDAuthority)andnew12-129(tracerwireonnewwaterandsewerinstallationsandfullreplacementsonprivateproperty).Theguideswillbeyellowtoidentifythenewrevision.AnyonewantingthenewerguidesshouldcontactDoraParks,dora@misstuitlity.net.

ScottBrown(WashingtonGas)remindedtheattendeesthatwhileworkinginWashingtonDCtosecurepermitsforbothprivateandpublicpropertyexcavationasDDOTandDCRAwereenforcingtherequirementtohaveaMissUtility/DOCticket.ViolatorsaresubjecttoZines.DoraParksaddedthatDDOT,DCRAandDCPSCrequirealldamagestobereportedintheirpermitregulations.Thecallcenterisprocessing‘damage’reportsfortheseentities.Thereportsarenottransmitted;however,theyremainarecordinthecallcenterarchivesforsevenyears.

StevenLopez(Anchor)reportedthatDCIwasnotlocatingtheirticketsontimeandusingacode5withoutcontactingAnchor.DoraParksexplainedhowthelocateextensionsandcode5statusareusedinMarylandandDCandsuggestedthatAnchormeetwithDCIafterthemeeting.

ScottHover(RBHinkle)statedtheyarebeingbilledforVerizondropdamagethatwasanofaultforRBHinkle.ChuckBaker(Verizon)willmeetwithScotttoreviewthedetailstogetthisissueresolved.

DeenaJoyce(WSSC)reportedthatWSSCwasabletoworkwithAT&Trecentlytoresolveadamagematter.

DoraParksaskedallstakeholderstobeonalertinMontgomeryCountyintheHerbFarmRoadareaformenworkingonprivatepropertyasthereisascamgoingontowardsseniors.Theworkersdonothaveticketsandarediggingonprivateproperties.PleasereporttheseincidentstoDoraParksorcallthepolice.

CommonGroundAlliance(CGA)willhavetheirannualdamagepreventionconferenceduringMarch14-16,2017inOrlando,FloridaasstatedbyDoraParks.CGAwillcelebratethe10thanniversaryof‘811’,thenation’s‘callbeforeyoudig’3digitdialingonWednesdayeveningoftheconference.Multiplestakeholders,includingMissUtilitywerechallengedbyCGAtocreateavideodisplayingthebeneZitsofusing‘811’.ThevideoswillberatedbytheCGAcommitteetoincludeapeople’schoiceawardduringthe‘811’celebration.KevinWoolbright(WSSC)andScottBrown(WGL)willprovidepresentationsattheconferenceinadditiontoOneCallConceptsunveilingthenew811caronanationallevel.

DoraalsoreportedthatCoxUtilityServiceswillZlya‘811hotairballoon’acrossthecountyinpartnershipwithCGAforthe10thyearanniversary.TheballoonwilltakeZlightonApril1stfromCalifornia,landinginRichmond,VAonAugust11th,811day.Theballoonwillmake23stopsacrossthecounty–BowieBaysoxstadiumbeingoneofthem–duringtheMissUtility,TouchATruckevent.

Ericadiscussedlocaltragediesofcompaniesnotadheringtosafetyregulationsduringexcavations.Thepresentationpredominantlyfocusedontrenchsafetyusingapowerpointtodisplayannualdeathstatisticsandworksiteaccidentsinvolvingtrenchingviolations.Thepresentationwaswellreceivedbythemeetingattendeeswithlotsofengagementandquestions.Topicsthatwerecoveredduringthepresentation;

18 years and serves on the Awards and GCDPTC. o Joe Feronti – USIC; Joe stated he has nearly 30 years of locating experience between two

companies and serves on the Awards and GCDPTC. Joe has worked the Miss Utility booth at the annual H&G shows in Timonium as a volunteer.

o Lawrence – DCI; Lawrence stated he has worked with DCI for two years and believes he has provided support to bridge the locator and excavator work site experiences.

o Juan Vogal – UtiliQuest/current member (self-nominated during the 2/28/2017 meeting)

Contractor Seat Self-Nominations and self-statements; o Lenny Corbin – Gray & Son; Lenny has been in the contracting and safety business for

over 40 years and has supported education and outreach by volunteering at minor league events and trade shows for Miss Utility. Gray & Son has been awarded the Dig Smart awards in 2012, 2014 & 2016 and honorable mention in 2013. Lenny also attends the AUC meetings representing Gray & Son.

Locator nominations closed on February 24th. The committee received (68) nominations for locators who have achieved: No at-fault damages for the time period, January 1 – December 31, 2016. No at-fault vehicle damages for the same time period. Designated as a full-time locator, locating at least 1,500 tickets during this time frame

Establish proactive working relationships in damage prevention

The nominated locators and their families will be celebrated at a banquet on May 19th that will include recognition for the exceptional job they provide in damage prevention and safety.
