In this document… You will learn how to connect to the UW-Madison Virtual Private Network (VPN) using an application called GlobalProtect. You will also learn how to disconnect from the VPN. Information is also provided for those who would like to use the GlobalProtect VPN for Remote Desktop access.

How to Connect to GlobalProtect 1. In the right-hand bottom corner of your home page click on the System Tray, then the

GlobalProtect icon as shown in Figure 1.

2. Click Connect.

3. Type your AIMS username and password. Then click Sign In.

4. Wait for a moment while GlobalProtect connects.

5. The following screen will appear when you have connected. Note also that the icon in the system icon area turns from white to blue.

6. On the Desktop of your computer locate your Map Network Drives icon.

7. Double-click on the Map Network Drives icon and let the program run to map your network drives. Once it’s done you should see a welcome screen as shown in Figure 7.

How to Disconnect from GlobalProtect

1. In the right-hand bottom corner of the desktop, click on the System Tray and then the GlobalProtect.

3. When you see the following screen, you have successfully disconnected.

Adding the uwmadison VPN to GlobalProtect This will be necessary if you wish to connect to a PC using Microsoft’s Remote Desktop feature.

1. Open GlobalProtect

2. Click on the gear icon and then click Settings

5. Close GlobalProtect

Connect to your desktop computer using Remote Desktop and the GlobalProtect VPN

1. Launch GlobalProtect

2. In the bottom right-hand corner click on the drop-down menu and select uwmadison.vpn.wisc.edu
