10. And the policy choices are? Choice 1: We could elect to do nothing now, and raise taxes in the future to cover budget deficits as they occur. Choice 2: An alternative approach would be to cut future government expenditure by around 5% GDP. Choice 3: We could run deficits and hence increase debt. Choice 4: The best approach is to look for ways to increase the size of the economy . The way to increase the size of the economy is to grow at a faster rate. The key ways to improve economic growth are through increases in labour force participation and productivity.
