PRAYER AND WORSHIP

Did You Know?

Why do Catholics have a Corpus on the Cross? Isn’t

Jesus risen for the dead and ascended into heaven?

Cradle Catholics sometimes take outward marks of our

faith for granted because they have always been a part of

our lives. Although we are aware of Catholic sacramen-

tals and symbols, can we truly say thatwe understand

them? What reply do we offer if we are questioned about

a practice, devotion, sacramental, or belief?

It was Our Savior Jesus Christ on the cross, Who had died

for our sins. But his mother quickly

changed the subject and regrettably, an opportunity for

evangelization was lost.

What more could I have shared with both of them? Catho-

lics display a cruci<x which includes the body of Jesus

(corpus) because it reminds us of the greatest gift of love

ever given. An empty cross is a simpli<ed, Christian sym-

bol but doesn’t communicate the full story. Jesus died for

our sins, an act to which we return each and every time

we witness the Holy Sacri<ce of the Mass. At the moment

of Consecration, we are transported, back in time, to the

foot of the cross on

Calvary. We partake of the Body and Blood of Christ, as

He instructed us to do on Holy Thursday, when He said,

“Take and eat”.

The cruci<x also serves as a compelling reminder to love

as He loves and to take up our own cross to follow Him.

Therefore, the cruci<x is a <tting symbol of His death for

our salvation. He was cruci<ed upon it, He died there, and

He was taken down from it after death.

Yet it is the Risen Christ Who is with us always. Perhaps a

more suitable symbol of the resurrected Christ, then, is

the empty tomb – He is no longer there, He has risen.

Alleluia!

And so we continue to “…preach Christ cruci<ed.” 1 Corin-

thians 1:23

DID YOU KNOW? PART 2

To add a name please call 615-794-4004

PLEASE PRAY FOR..

resucitado. ¡Aleluya!

Y así, seguimos “… predicando a Cristo cruci<cado”. 1 Corinthians 1:23

STEWARDSHIP

6

Dear Family of Nativity,

The staff and I wish you a very blessed and peaceful

Easter Season. The past six months have been a great

blessing to each and every one of us. We have not only

grown in the numbers – just look at the parking lot on

Sunday morning, but we have grown <nancially and

spiritually. In short, “God continues to greatly bless our

efforts abundantly above anything that we can ask,

think, or imagine.” (Eph.3:20) It is a great blessing to

have a new speaker system for our growing choir and

certainly the larger tabernacle which I hope draws our

attention to our daily Eucharistic celebrations.

The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian

life. Each of us is called as Catholics to be a Eucharistic

people – the Church lives from the Eucharist, which is

the living sign of Christ’s love for each of us, making

present his redeeming sacri<ce on the Cross. The

Eucharist IS Christ in His Love, giving Himself to us as

our food and drink, to strengthen us on our journey of

faith as missionary disciples.

The Eucharist is a mystery to be lived. We are called and

sent to be a “Eucharistic people”. We are called and sent

to live from the graces we receive in the Eucharist, to be

salt and light for the world we share. In doing this we

make something beautiful to offer to God, who has

greatly blessed us.

The love that we receive in the Eucharist is the love we

are called to share with the world. Day by we are called

to grow in holiness and to become and offering more

and more acceptable to God. (Mt. 5:48) We are called to

make our lives a kind of prayer – doing everything for

God’s honor and glory as well as the good of our brothers

and sisters.

WE are called to live our lives beautifully; to “Be the Best

Version of Ourselves.” We are called to be present to

those in need in our community and called to live our

lives as a sacri<ce to God – offering our lives in service,

by living and doing everything we can to proclaim in

word and deed the glory of God.

Many thanks and prayers to those who give of their time,

talent, and treasure to make the Catholic Church of the

Nativity a place of worship, a place of spiritual growth, a

place of welcome for everyone. We have come a long

way in ten short years, but we have a long way yet to go.

Again, I ask God to greatly bless you all; the small and the

tall, with His greatest blessings.

Remember: Love God, Love Others, Make Disciples.

Fr. Jerry

Easter Sunday, The Resurrection of the Lord

ACTS 10:34A, 37-43; PS 118:1-2, 16-17, 22-23; COL 3:1-4 or 1 COR 5:6B-8; JN 20:1-9

He is risen! He is truly risen! This is what the celebration of Easter is all about — the

truth that Jesus was cruci<ed for our sins and three days later rose from the dead,

conquering death once and for all.

We know it’s true, but this Easter Sunday, let’s ask ourselves IF we live as if it’s true.

Do we live as witnesses to the glorious reality of the Resurrection?

A witness, of course, is one with <rst-hand knowledge. Our readings today focus not

only on the Resurrection itself, but also on those who were witnesses to it.

In the Gospel, St.John describes the very <rst witnesses to the empty tomb, Mary

Magdalene, John (“the disciple whom Jesus loved”), and Peter. Each had an individual

“experience” of the empty tomb. Each went up close to see for themselves what

Jesus’ love had accomplished. How can we as Christian Stewards all these years

later see for ourselves and so become His witnesses? We “See for ourselves” when

we prayerfully read the Scriptures knowing they are a living love letter from God with

a message to each one of us. We “See for ourselves” each time we receive the

precious

Body and Blood of our Lord in the Eucharist. We “see for ourselves” when we

experience His personal and healing power in our hearts during Reconciliation. We

“see for ourselves” when we pour out our lives in loving service to

those around us and experience the deep satisfaction that only comes when we are

imitating our Savior.

This Easter, resolve to live as if the saving power of the Resurrection is true.

Experience Jesus for yourself every day from now on. You will be a powerful witness

to the truth that He is risen! He is truly risen!

imitando a nuestro Salvador.

resucitado!
