How to use a PVCO®

VCO means “Voice Carry Over.” The pocket speakand read is specially designed for the deaf and hard-of-hearing who has a good speech ability and want touse their voice when making a relay call. How doesrelay work? Dial your state relay number (if there is anumber for the VCO caller, use this number). Tell theagent the phone number you want to call. The agentwill notify you when the hearing person answers. Goahead and speak to the mouthpiece. The hearing per-son will hear your voice directly. When they respondto you, the agent will type what they say to you. Therelay service is free of charge and 100% confidential.If you have any difficulty understanding a conversa-tion for various reasons, you can request translationduring the call.

When using a cell phone

The Cellular phones use high frequencies to carry thecoded voice signals over the air. These carriers alwayscause noises to every receiver such as a radio, televi-sion, etc... especially when you dial out, or while rid-ing in a car. What you would do to reduce the feedbacknoise, is to touch firmly against the antenna to make abetter receiving signal. To be sure the feedback isgone, watch the LED on the left side of the PVCO®,after dialing a number the LED should be off.Surprisingly, you may use a piece of foil to wraparound the antenna. It is the same way you make bet-ter receiving signals for your TV. Sometimes a call canfade out (or be dropped) when being in between twocell tower areas. Don't panic... simply ask the operatorto repeat what they typed to you.

1Put the PVCO® on the earpiece anddial the relay number. If you have aVCO relay number, use this number.

2If you use a VCO number, skip this step. Afterrelay responds to you, move the PVCO® tothe mouthpiece and press the right button

3Move the PVCO® back to the earpieceand speak the number that you want tocall to the relay operator.

4If you use the machine in a darkarea, you can turn on the backlight by pressing the left button.
