The dreaded school supply list. Whether it’s the fear of our school-age children wanting particular types of items or the fear of seeing how quickly the expenses add up, everyone has apprehensions. Hopefully the tips below will help establish a shopping plan and ease some of your worries: Check your supplies. You might be surprised by what’s left from last year’s supplies. Whether it’s extra notebooks or just a few boxes of crayons, little items can add up to big savings. Try on last year’s uniforms. What a nice surprise to find out that you only need two pairs of shorts instead of four. Many times we assume the children need a com- plete new wardrobe but sometimes we can salvage a few pieces from previous years to help save money. Spend more. It may not make perfect sense now but when you’re scrounging for another back pack halfway thru the school year, your pocket book will feel the difference. If you know your child is rough on a back pack, it may be wise to find one that offers free replacements. Shop tax free. Louisiana’s back-to-school tax free holiday is scheduled for August 6-7, 2016. Take advantage of these savings for items needed to head back to school. Visit the Credit Union with HEART! Before you spend ANY money, make sure you visit Heart of Louisiana Credit Union for a Back To School loan to help take the stress out of this year’s school shopping. *APR=Annual Percentage Rate.
