Loans Credit union loans outstanding grew 0.1% in April, compared to a 0.3% increase in March and a 0.6% increase in April of 2019. Fixed-rate mortgages led loan growth during the month, rising 1.2%. On the decline during the month were new auto loans (-0.3%), adjustable-rate mortgages (-0.6%), used auto loans (-0.8%), home equity loans (-1.2%), unsecured personal loans (-1.5%), other mortgage loans (-2.2%), and credit card loans (-4.3%).
Savings Credit union savings balances increased 4.7% in April, compared to a 0.9% increase in March and a 0.6% decrease in April of 2019. Share drafts led savings growth during the month, rising 11.2%, followed by regular share (7.4%), money market accounts (2.3%), and individual retirement accounts (0.5%). One-year certificates declined during April (-0.3%).
Asset quality Credit unions’ 60+ day delinquency increased to 0.7% in April.
Liquidity The loan-to-savings ratio decreased from 81.7% in March to 78.1% in April. The liquidity ratio (the ratio of surplus funds maturing in less than one year to borrowings plus other liabilities) increased from 17.0% in March to 19.8% in April.
Memberships Total credit union memberships grew 0.03% during April to 123.3 million.
Capital The movement’s overall capital-to-asset decreased to 10.7% in April. The total dollar amount of capital increased 0.7% to $184.2 billion.
