Terms Explained

• Merchant (Advertiser): Retailer who wants to have affiliates in their program to advertise their products and services (i.e. Best Buy)

• Affiliate (Publisher): Website that advertises and sells on behalf of a business or the merchant (i.e. Mike’s Tech Reviews)

• Commission Level: Standard amount paid to affiliates on a sale or lead basis

• Cookie Period: Also known as returns days, it’s the time period where merchant will give credit (i.e. a commission) to the affiliate-referrer if the customer comes back to the site directly

• Data feed: A product catalog including images, descriptions, and direct links made available to affiliates so they can post products directly on their site

• EPC: Earnings per 100 clicks sent to merchant. It’s a scorecard that takes into account purchase price, commission level and return days
