Instructions for designing cara I-Bar orders

We at Kulzer are traditional partners for dental laboratories and dental practices and we are one of the world’s leading dental companies. We have approximately 80 years of experience in the dental market, which helps us make the work of dental technicians and dentists easier, more efficient and more precise.

We are also continuously refining our technologies and processes. As a result we can offer users the best materials so that every day they can give patients back their smiles and their quality of life.

This guide for scanning and designing the cara I-Bar using 3Shape is a step-by-step guide for achieving a successful digital design for an implant bar. This technology has the advantage of saving you valuable time. You always specify the design yourself. Every patient case is individually produced for you in line with your wishes and requirements.

General information how to place an order at a glance

Scan the model together with the tooth setup, the scan bodies and the gingival mask using the 3Shape process. To get started with this you will need a scanner, the software license for Implant Bars and Bridges or CAD Points and scan bodies in addition to an implant library for cara I-B&B from Kulzer. A scan body is required for each implant (implant system, platform and size).

If you are using the 3Shape software with the Implant Bars and Bridges design module for cara I-Bridge and cara I-Bar, you can design the bar digitally and therefore faster since there is no need to create a prototype (wax-up). You design the cara I-Bar and decide whether you want to use angled or regular.

A plaster model is required to ensure a perfect fit for the bars.

If you order the cara I-Bar directly via 3Shape and submit the data via the cara Inbox before 13:00, this counts as day 1 of the order placement. Please note that if the model arrives in Hanau, Germany on the second day, calculation of the production process can be shortened by one day overall.

If you would like Kulzer to organize the pick-up service for your cara I-Bar model, please make a note of this in the comments field of the Dental Manager software.

The Kulzer system range now also includes scan bodies for all standard implant systems. The new two-part rotatable cara scan bodies with a PEEK abutment and stainless steel connection geometry for intraoral and extraoral application provide greater safety during handling and precise scan results. Of course, all cara I-Products with the scan bodies and libraries can still be obtained from NT Trading (NT 3D Guide) and Medentika (1st and 2nd generation). For cara I-Bar on Thommen and Dentaurum implants, you will need the scan bodies and original analogues from the manufacturer. You’ll find both systems in the category “other systems B&B”.

You can see all the available implant systems for digitally designing the cara I-Bar in the cara I-Bar platform overview.

Ordering procedureStep-by-step explanation.

STEP 1

Select the settings for your specific requirements in Scan settings.

Highlight the teeth where the implant will be placed. You can highlight several teeth at the same time if the system, size and material are identical. Otherwise each implant must be highlighted individually.

Select Customized abutment and the cara I-B&B category (this depends on which scan body you are using). cara I-B&B SCAB (Kulzer Scanbodys), cara I-B&B NT3D, cara I-B&B conical (Medentika and nt-trading 1st generation), cara I-B&B cylindrical (Medentika 2nd generation), the desired implant system and the appropriate diameter.

STEP 2

Press + to select the material (e. g. cara I-B&B titanium). Select Kulzer Milling Centre in the manufacturer’s menu and cara I-B&B under Production process. If you would also like to scan in a tooth setup in wax, please select the option “Double preparation/Wax-up”.

STEP 3

Highlight all the elements of the design and select first Bridge and then Bar. If you would like the model to be picked up, please write “Please have model picked up” in the comments field.

Scanning

STEP 4

Please use a separate scan body for each implant. If you only work with one scan body for several implants, there is a chance of errors arising during the scanning process which may impair the fit of the implant bar. Do not, therefore, choose the option “Use only one scan abutment”. Screw the scan bodies into the model and place the model in the scanner.

STEP 5

Follow the instructions on the screen.

11

STEP 11

Set the insertion direction of the implant bar.

STEP 12

Design the implant bar to your requirements. You can change the dimensions of the bar by dragging the blue and green points under the item, Edit bar. Where possible, try to completely integrate the abutments in the bar design to obtain a uniform bar shape. Ensure that the bar penetrates the jaw as little as possible from the basal direction before adjusting the bar to the gingiva.

STEP 13

You have the option to add attachments under the item Modify. In the menu “Group”, you will find the Kulzer entry and can then select the cara Preci v+h 1.8 no Base & cara Preci v+h 1.8 (v=vertix & h=horix) attachments. Click on 1.),,Apply all placed attachments’’ and 2.),,Cut bar to gingiva’’.

STEP 14

If you click on the implant on the dental chart, select Parametric and check next to Insertion direction, the abutments will be placed in the same insertion direction as the bar.

STEP 15

If you need an angled screw channel, check “Angled screw hole” in the menu under “Assembly” and set the desired number of degrees (max. 20°). Then go back to Modify framework design. Please ensure that the vestibular or buccal wall thickness is adequately dimensioned in the case of angled screw channels, otherwise the required wall thickness of the angled screw channel will be adjusted automatically in production.

Important:

The minimum wall thickness of an angled screw channel in the designated area is 1.5 mm.

14

STEP 16

Add material bit by bit at the point where the screw channel exits. You can show the screw channels to help you do this. This step is necessary as the screw channel is not visible in the STL file in production.

STEP 17

Please bear in mind that it may be necessary to machine-finish the surfaces in the case of parallel-walled bars.

When everything is ready, click Next or Close and send the file to Kulzer.
