Major General James Williams served his country in the military for over 35 years; he retired 1 August 2010. He has commanded

Marines at every level in and out of combat. He was last assigned as the Commanding General, 4th Marine Division from April 2007 to April 2010. Previous positions held were as the Assistant Division Commander, 2nd Marine Division from November 2006 to March 2007; Deputy Commanding General (Mobilization), Marine Corps Combat Development Command in 2006; Assistant Division Commander, 2d Marine Division, in combat operations at Camp Blue Diamond, Ar-Ramadi, Iraq, from 2005-2006; and Deputy Commanding General, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Fallujah, Iraq, from 2004-2005. While serving with the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force he was assigned as the Deputy Director of Operations CJTF-180, conducting combat operations in Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom, from 2001-2003. He also served on the Secretary of Defense’s Reserve Force Policy Board from 2007-2010.

Major General Williams has served throughout Asia, Europe, Central and South America, the Middle East, and Africa in numerous military operations. He has extensive experiences in China, Korea, Japan, and the Republic of the Philippines. In addition to multiple combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, he has extensive operational experience in the Counter-Drug War in Central and South America, and in Southwest Asia. While on his 2nd tour in Iraq, Major General Williams and his integrated US team of military and joint coalition members were responsible for initiating the talks with terrorist and insurgent groups that caused the Sunni Awaking to occur in Al-Anbar Province. This allowed the beginning of the end in combat operations, thus saving countless friendly military and Iraqi lives from further misery. During the Carter and Reagan Presidencies from 1979-1981, Major

General Williams served as one of the Military White House Social Aides to both Presidents. He was serving at the White House during Operation Desert One, the rescue attempt to free the US Hostages from Iran; during the return of the US Hostages from Iran back to the USA and to the White House; and during the assassination attempt on President Reagan in Washington, DC in 1981. Major General Williams was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. His formative years were spent in Philadelphia and Reading, Pennsylvania. He received a B.S degree from Slippery Rock University, PA, in 1975. He reported to Officer Candidate School in January 1976, and received his commission in March 1976. He received Master’s degrees from Georgetown University in Government and National Security Affairs in 1981, from Yale University in Hospital Management/Public Health in 1984, and from the U.S. Army War College in International Security Studies in 2000. He has completed studies at

Harvard’s JFK School of Government, and at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flaglar School of Business. Currently, he is in the process of working on additional graduate degrees in Computer Engineering/Computer Science and in Business and Strategic Leadership.

His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Afghanistan Service Medal, Iraq Service Medal, Korean Defense Medal, Expeditionary Service Medal, Select Reserve Service Medal, and the National Defense Medal. In the business world, General Williams has held leadership positions in healthcare, high technology, defense, financial services, and the international business trade industries. He is currently working in the area of financial advising and financial education services helping businesses, families, and military veterans. He also continues to assist American businesses with expanding their business products and services to other countries globally, as well as, teaching their key leadership strategic planning, and team building skills. He has over 38 years of experience dealing with the Asia-Pacific Region and over 30 years dealing with the Middle East, Africa, and South America. Major General Williams also serves on the Boards of Directors/Advisors for the Admiral Nimitz Foundation/National Museum of the Pacific War; the American Board of Physician Specialties/Disaster Medicine; Veterans Coalition of North Central Texas, VA Medical Center of North Texas; Encryptics, LLC; DGC International, and the World Craniofacial Foundation. He also spends numerous hours to helping Veterans fight for their benefits and services they so richly deserve for their unselfish service to their country.

Service Desk Manager

John joined TD Ameritrade in 2011 as their Service Desk Manager. With over 20 years IT experience as a Manager, Systems Engineer and Programmer he has developed the TD Ameritrade service desk into a high functioning, customer centric team.

John received a Bachelor of Arts degree from UT Arlington as well as several HDI and Microsoft certifications.

In his spare time John is an avid history and science fiction reader who also volunteers, and fosters for a local canine rescue group.

BEACON HILL-CHARNELLA DERRYCharnella Derry is the co-founder and President of Beacon Hill Preparatory Institute (BHPI), a 501c3 non-profit organization that advocates Mastery Learning in Reading & Math for Students in Pre-K – 12th grade to ensure all youth are college and career ready when they graduate from high school. BHPI primary mission is to provide a structured and accelerated education to supplement the existing academic curriculum in the Private, charter & public school systems that will advance the minds of today’s youth. Charnella is a seasoned business manager and a focused educator. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a BBA in Accounting and the University of Dallas with an MBA in Finance. She has more than 20 years experience in corporate management working for Mobil Oil Corporation as a Senior Tax Accountant and The Warrior Group as Senior Accountant and Business Development Manager. She has over 15 years of experience implementing and working with educational programs with different school districts, churches, community colleges and non-profits across the metroplex. She also serves on various educational boards and committees including the 2013 class of Leadership DALLAS ISD, GrowSouth - South Dallas WINS Team and various other initiatives. Charnella stepped away from corporate America in September 2011 to focus full time on her passion and purpose of educating the youth in our community and to help them become better prepared adults and leaders of tomorrow.

Charnella was born in Houston, Texas and come from a family of educators. She is the daughter of William and Billie Swanson (Loving Care Private School Owners for over 50 years) and has 2 sisters (Celitha & Tanya) and 2 brothers (William II and Danny) all of Houston Texas. She is an active member of Concord Church in Dallas Texas, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and is married to her husband Llewellyn A. Derry I of over 25 years and has three beautiful children.

DALLAS COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT-GLORIA SMITHGloria Smith, Associate Dean of Contract Training and Workforce Education at El Centro College since January 1999, serves as the liaison between NPower and the Bill J. Priest Campus. She oversees contractual agreements with public, private and non-profit clients as well as serves as Project Director for several large grant funded initiatives. Ms. Smith has served as an adjunct faculty member for the past 15 years here at El Centro College and teaches private security, corrections and adult education and literacy courses.

CITI-CHERI ARNOTTCheri Arnott is the Entry Level Program Director for Citi Technology Infrastructure (CTI) and reports to Nick Beavis, the head of Product Management for the business. In her capacity, Cheri is responsible for the Global Program strategy and manages the entry level talent experience from acquisition, learning and development, to eventual placement in the business off program. Her role involves several aspects of employee development for CTI and includes a focus on engagement and assimilation to Citi for designated talent channels. She partners closely with the business stakeholders to ensure alignment for such initiatives across the global structure and she manages program locations in Irving, Warsaw, Budapest, and Manila.

Cheri has nearly 20 years of experience in organizational roles within the Financial Services, Consumer Packaged Goods, and High Tech industries. Prior to her current role in CTI, she was the Talent and HR Program lead for Citi’s Enterprise Infrastructure. Prior to that she led the Consumer Program initiatives for all businesses within the Global Consumer Group where she was responsible for reengineering the program strategy and infrastructure for developing mid-level managers to build Franchise Players. Cheri began her Citi career as a Senior HR Business Partner for the Retail Services Cards business where she supported four line businesses and functions.

Outside Citi Experience: Prior to Citi, Cheri spent nearly 10 years between both SAB Miller Brewing Company and The Pillsbury Company, fulfilling various roles in the Human Resources organizations in support of Sales, Marketing, Corporate Strategy, and International Divisions. She also worked in the field manufacturing and distribution locations, responsible for all employee and labor relations at several facilities across the country.

Educational Background: Cheri received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of MN in Minneapolis with a major in Pre-Management and Communications. She received her Masters Degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.

This award recognizes an exceptional individual within the TSC graduating class, who epitomizes Citi’s Principle of Ingenuity -- an individual who has driven innovation and/or identified improvements, which will enhance the experience of clients served through an internship program.

JPMORGAN CHASE-MARK WINTERSMark Winters is a Managing Director and Technology Executive for JPMorgan’s Corporate and Investment Bank’s Securities Processing Custody Group. At the end of 2014 JP Morgan’s CIB Custody Group serviced over $20.5 trillion in assets on behalf of it’s clients. Mark oversees Technical teams in Dallas that provide technology support for Corporate Reorganization, Income Services, Cash and Trade Operations. Mark is also the Global Technology Hub leader for the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for JPMorgan Chase. During his tenure with the firm, Mark has worked and managed teams in US and Global Custody Operations, Investment Advisor Relations as well various roles within Technology. Mark has completed 33 years with the firm, starting with Chemical Bank in Manhattan in 1981. Mark is an active member of the CIB CAO People Agenda/Diversity Council team and serves as the senior sponsor for the ASPIRE Business Resource Group in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Providence College. Mark and his wife Cecilia have one son, Jack, and reside in Grapevine, Texas.

Courtney Bell (Army National Guard): Served (10 years)

Courtney has excelled in the private security field as a Private Investigator and a Personal Protection Officer. Although Courtney has achieved great success in the security world, his passion is in Technology. Courtney is grateful for NPower because they have given him an opportunity to make a career change and better provide for his family. Jason served in the Texas Army National Guard for 8 years. During his time as a Combat Engineer he was able to develop his leadership and IT technical skills. Shortly after being honorably discharged he pursued Entrepreneurship as a designer of custom wood pieces, reaching $30,000 in revenue in the first year. In addition he has pursued several different avenues of employment in information technology, logistics, and management. The NPower Technology Service Corps has provided Jason with the necessary technical training and soft skills required to step into a successful career in Information Technology.

NPower has provided specialized, technical training, as well as provided a professional network which optimized her talent and transition process.

Duane has served 7 years in United States Army as Field Artillery Surveyor. After honorably being discharged he successfully pursued his Bachelors in Business Management. Since separating from the U.S. Army Duane has worked as a Security Contractor for the Federal Government and he provides Homeland Security for various Government buildings in the DFW area. Duane attended the NPower CompTIA program as an introduction to the world of IT. The program provided Duane with the basic knowledge in the A+ 801 and 802 programs. He was introduced to the program by a fellow veteran whom is currently a part of the program. Duane is grateful to the NPower program because they provided training in both professional and soft skills, and was the source that provided the career opportunities and apprenticeships.

Since completing his enlistment, he has been employed for several years in the semiconductor manufacturing industry.

Norman says, “The knowledge and networking opportunities NPower has provided will benefit my career as an IT professional. I have made tremendous growth the past few months thanks to the staff and my classmates. After obtaining my A+ certification, I plan on continuing my education by gaining certifications in ServiceNow and Cisco CCNA. Being a member of NPower is a blessing and I am grateful this service is provided to veterans.”

Raymond D’Ogas (Navy): Served (2 years)

Raymond served 2 years in the United Stated Navy. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Ray entered the customer service industry. After spending 12 years in the industry Raymond managed to advance into management positions. He was also interested in technology. When his son was born Raymond decided to make a career change to better himself. He enrolled into IIT-Tech Institute and recently graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Network Systems Administration. Raymond decided to continue my education and also pursue his Bachelor’s Degree in Cyber Security. Prior to graduating, Raymond was contacted by NPower and was given an opportunity to further his knowledge in technology and obtain an A+ certification.

While stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, he was once again reassigned to the U.S. Army Cadet Command as an Army Cadet to pursue a graduate degree in criminology and criminal justice and a military commission through the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) green to gold program at the University of Texas in Arlington. He continued to serve as a Cadet in Army Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) at a Joint Intelligence Operations Command at the Joint Reserve Base (JRB) Fort Worth, TX until 16 May 2015 when he was commissioned as a military intelligence officer (2nd Lieutenant in U.S. Army reserve). He would be awarded a Masters of Arts degree from the University of Texas in Arlington in the Fall of 2015. He is currently awaiting orders to attend the Basic Officers Leadership Course (BOLC) at Fort Hauchucha, Arizona

Olusegun’s civilian career began when he was selected as one of the 50 finalist from amongst an initial applicant pool of 5000 who applied for career positions through the Microsoft Academy for College Hires (MACH) for FY 2015. He accepted an offer to begin a full time career as an associate consultant for Microsoft Corporation in Las Colinas, TX in July 2015.

Because of his passion for technology and interest in writing a cyber security/cyber crime policy paper policy for his graduate school thesis, he enrolled in the NPower Technology Service Corps, IT training program for veterans to increase his knowledge and awareness of the IT fields and to earn his A+ Certificate. Like his country’s President, Colin was born in the State of Hawaii, where he lived with his mother until he was 7 years of age, after which they lived in various states until they settled in the town of Lubbock, TX. He became a leader and role model in every community that he has become involved with since his participation in the public schooling systems. Colin was a consistent participator in the athletics section of extracurricular activities.

After his service, Colin has been involved in volunteering with C.C.A. in Lewisville; he has participated in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society gatherings while a student at North Central Texas Community College. He has held various different types of odd jobs in states Texas, Arizona, and South Dakota.

Jason Sallas proudly served 10 years in the U.S. Army. He began his service with the 3rd ID, Fort Stewart, GA as a diesel mechanic. He was then transferred to the Republic of Korea where he served with the 2nd ID, USAG, as a training manager and human resources specialist. While serving with the 2nd ID, Jason was awarded an opportunity to transfer to the Army Judge Advocate Generals Corp (JAG). During his time with JAG, Jason served as a paralegal NCO with the 7th JMTC, Germany, and, most recently, the 4th ESC, Fort Sam Houston, TX.

Jason has consistently performed above and beyond. He has been promoted ahead of his peers and has been recognized for his work ethic, aptitude, dedication, and performance. He is an advocate of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and perseverance. He has a professional passion for leadership, security, policy, and defense.

Upon his Honorable separation from the United States Army, Jason Sallas sought an opportunity to work in Information Technology. He was naturally drawn to IT security, so he began his path to a Bachelor’s of Science in Cybersecurity. Recently, he was afforded an excellent opportunity to participate in the NPower program; it has afforded outstanding opportunities and provided essential skills.

Darrel Sawyer is a 12-year veteran of the United States Army. He is originally from Brooklyn, New York and moved to the Dallas area 2 years ago. He has deployed around the world in support of Operation Iraq Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Joint Guardian Kosovo (NATO), and Operation Cobra Gold Thailand. During his time in the Army, he worked as a Human-Resource Specialist/ Petroleum Specialist, and performed many other additional duties as needed. Since being honorably discharged from the Army, Daryl has obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Information Assurance/Security. He has worked for many fortune 500 companies as a government contractor at various locations overseas. Many of the jobs performed were information technology-related, which enhanced his technical knowledge. Darrel currently supports the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) a department within Homeland Security, as a Technology Service Specialist during national disasters. NPower has provided him with additional tools, which will allow Daryl further growth as an Information Technology professional.

Christopher is an 8 year veteran of the United States Navy where he was a Parachute Rigger and crossed trained as an Aviation Structural Mechanic. While in the Navy he had the chance to work with a World Class Seal Team. After his separation Christopher worked with Oncor as a Lineman Apprentice for two years. Christopher came to NPower to gain the tools and network to establish a great foundation to become a successful IT professional. Christopher is continuing his education at Collin County College. He is planning on obtaining his Cisco CCNA and ServiceNow certification. Christopher has the desire to become an IT Project Manager. Eddie served 4 years in the Air Force as an Aero-medical technician and later a Public Health Technician. During Operation Enduring Freedom, Eddie was as a member of the WMD decontamination team. After 6 years of break in service pursuing various interests, Eddie saw an opportunity offered by the Army to help fulfill a dream in a career of aircraft maintenance and became an ERMP UAV Technician. Due to the drawdown, Eddie honorably separated from the Army and moved to North Texas with his wife in October of 2014 and learned of the opportunity with NPower’s IT program. NPower has provided Eddie with the tools, the soft skills training, and the support network to be a well-rounded IT professional. During the program he achieved his A+ certification.

Christopher honorably served in the United States Navy for 4 years. After leaving the Navy, Christopher worked a full-time Job and quickly realized that he wanted better for himself and his family. Christopher resigned from his full-time job and went to school full-time to achieve an A.A.S Degree in Computer Networking. After several attempts on interviewing, Christopher felt like he needed more IT training and soon received an email from NPower. He believed the NPower program was the perfect fit for him. With the common knowledge that Christopher already had about computers, he felt like I learned even more about computers and the IT field. The opportunity at NPower has been outstanding, and I will always be thankful for NPower Dallas and the entire staff.

During his four years of military service, his extensive experience was in conflict resolutions, first responder and contingency operations. Christopher was afforded the opportunity to travel all over the Pacific Ocean and neighboring countries of Asia. After service, Christopher completed his Bachelors of Arts in Criminal and Social Justice in 2010 at Ashford University.

Christopher’s interest in Information Technology was peaked when the Texas Workforce Center provided information about NPower. The NPower program has given Christopher a foundation in IT to further his career in technology through CompTIA A+ and Service Now training. NPower also provided professional mentorship and networking opportunities in the industry. Christopher plans to pursue other related certifications to further his skills.

During her 15 years of service, Carla completed multiple deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, serving in both Afghanistan and Qatar. She is currently completing a Master of Arts Degree in Management and Leadership from Webster University and Project Management Professional Certification Certificate training with Syracuse University.

She was introduced to the NPower program through the ACAP/TAP process at Fort Hood, Texas. NPower has provided specialized, technical training, as well as provided a professional network which optimized her talent and transition process. The CompTIA A+ and ServiceNow training has assisted in pursuit of her IT career interest in Network Infrastructure and Project Management.

Shwonia Woodard served 10 years on active duty in the Army as an Administrative Assistant, Human Resources Assistant and as both a Postal Supervisor and Postal Clerk. She joined the Army just a few months after graduating with her Associates of Applied Science Degree. After completing basic training, then AIT, she was selected to receive training as an Executive Administrative Assistant. Upon completing her training, she went on to serve overseas in Korea. Throughout her military career she went on to complete tours to Fort Hood, TX, Fort Stewart, GA, Dallas MEPS and another tour to Korea. She also completed one deployment to Bosnia.

She relocated to the DFW area after separating from the military in 2006 in search of a new career. She was informed of the NPower Technology Service program as a great career change in an exciting and challenging field of Information Technology. The experience has been both rewarding and informative at the same time.
