I would like to welcome all of our readers to the Premier Edition of Community Life Magazine, a magazine for the Community by the Community. This edition is dedicated to the residents of Port Credit, Mineola, Lakeview and Lorne Park.

The concept was developed to give you a voice in your immediate living area. As a vibrant community along the shores of Lake Ontario, we plan to publish stories provided by you about the people and the area we live in. We want you to get involved by sending us your pictures and stories. This is your chance to share with the community. Our new website will be along soon where you will have access to all this information 24/7. For now, we will publish Community Life Magazine 10 times per year and deliver it directly to your home.

We are looking for stories on people, events, sports, awards, entertainment, politics and everything in-between. Your stories can be about anything as long as they relate to the area or the people that live in the community. Each edition will feature a ‘Pet of the Month’ and a ‘Recipe of the Month’. Send us a picture of your favourite pet along with a description and send us your tastiest recipes along with pictures if you have them. We want your pictures of the community and the people in it as well. Submit your pictures and stories anytime by emailing them to us at creative@thnpublications.com. If we choose your stories or pictures to publish in the magazine, we will send you a valuable gift card.

Community Life Magazine will also provide an opportunity for local businesses to get their messages to you directly. Most of the local merchants that sell products and services in the community also live in the community, so give them your full support and shop locally.

We hope to grow the magazine with more content as we roll out over the next few months. We appreciate any feedback you have and look forward to hearing from you.

INGREDIENTS:ROASTED PEPPER & GARLIC SPREAD: (in food processor)

• 1 cup roasted green/red/yellow peppers. Roast in oven, then peel skins.

• 4 large garlic cloves – slow roasted in the oven till tender and juicy

• ½ cup roasted chick peas

• ¹∕³ cup edamame beans

• 1 tbsp lemon juice

• 1 tbsp grape seed oil

• ½ tsp salt

• ½ tsp pepper

TOPPINGS:Pepper & garlic spread, sweet peas, sweet corn, mushrooms, tomatoes, green onions, red kidney beans, black beans, pea sprouts, avocado, cucumbers, baby spinach, pumpkin seeds.

DIRECTIONS:Start by chopping off the large collard stems and discarding. Drop the whole leaves into boiling water for 60 seconds, then place immediately into cold water. Remove the large veins, then keep at room temperature until ready to use.

Spread a heaping spoonful of pepper/garlic mixture on a collard leaf.

Load on the toppings.
