“Perhaps things are more efficient in the digital age, maybe it is just a lot easier because information is so widespread, but this is nothing *fundamentally* new about digital technologies…Maybe we got into a frame of mind in which we thought these digital spaces were free spaces for us to express our liberated identities and need a push in the other direction, but the time for that argument has come and gone.

While it is true that information is now more readily accessible due to digitalization, I disagree with the claim that there is "global reach" with information. While it is true that making information globally reachable is ridiculously easy (posting my SSN to a publically-readable blog), I believe this falls under the category of not properly "judging what is obvious to us".

I believe that the change in behavior will be temporary, as users pull back during the transition, but eventually give in and lead lives with a different perception of privacy.

-Jackson H.

MS contends that this will result in a downward spiral in which the powerless will find themselves further disempowered as they lack control over the information upon which to shape their identities. Fair enough, but this sounds like what has been said many times before about the experience of modernity of the disenfranchised, minority populations, and non-western nations.

-David H.
