AN INTRODUCTION TO CONSCIOUS CAPITALISMThe Conscious Capitalism movement was officially started almost 8 years ago, though its leaders have been engaged

in the practice of Conscious Capitalism for decades. Conscious Capitalism builds on the foundations of Capitalism:

Voluntary exchange, entrepreneurship, competition, freedom to trade and the rule of law.

These are essential to a healthy functioning economy, as are other elements of Conscious Capitalism including:

• Trust

• Compassion

• Collaboration

• Value creation

THE FOUR PILLARS

Higher Purpose

Stakeholder Orientation

“We need red blood cells to live (the same way a business needs profits to live), but the purpose of life is more than to make red blood cells (the same way the purpose of business is more than simply to generate profits).” - Ed Freeman; Conscious Capitalism, Inc Trustee & UVA Business School Professor

Pioneering naturalist John Muir observed that “when you tug at a single thing in nature, you find it attached to the rest of the world.” Such is the case with business, which is an intricate and interconnected web of relationships.

Conscious LeadershipRobert Greenleaf, author of Servant Leadership observed that “Good leaders must first become good servants.” Conscious Leaders focus on “we”, rather than “me.” They inspire, foster transformation and bring out the best in those around them.

Conscious Culture“Culture eats strategy for lunch.” Famed management guru Peter Drucker didn’t mince words, and knew how to identify and articulate the keys to success in business.A Conscious Culture fosters love and care and builds trust between a company’s team members and its other stakeholders. Conscious Culture is an energizing and unifying force, that truly brings a Conscious Business to life.

MORE ON WHY: THE NUMBERS

The Gallup organization has been tracking this for decades, and from their recent data we see that: • Less than one-third (31.5%) of U.S. workers were

engaged in their jobs in 2014. • A majority of employees, 51%, were still “not

engaged” while 17.5% were “actively disengaged.” • They also show that 87% or the world-wide

workforce in unengaged.

The Firms of Endearment have out performed the S&P 500 by 14 times and Good to Great Companies by 6 times over a period of 15 years.

CONSCIOUS CAPITALISM & MILLENNIALS

The Millennial generation is more self-aware and electronically connected, and as such their top motivators at work are:

▪ They want to know an organizations purpose and values: Their ‘why and how’ of doing business.

▪ Being able to fully contribute their skills and passions

▪ Being heard, seen, taken seriously, and informed regularly

▪ Working collaboratively, where all their ideas are heard and integrated

▪ Being appreciated & recognized

▪ Freedom to learn, to grow, to try, to fail while trying

▪ Work for an organization that is doing right / good in the world

THE MOST IMPORTANT KEY TO MAKING THE TRANSITION INTO CONSCIOUS CAPITALISM?

We all want to make more money, and conscious capitalism not only delivers much more ROI, it also generates higher degrees of:

When the leader(s) shifts their thinking, the leadership can shift. • When leadership shifts, culture can grow and evolve.

• When cultures shift, society follows.

• This is the most important aspect I can stress if you want to see conscious capitalism be a success strategy for you and your organization!

• Achievement • Success • Happiness • Fulfillment • Connection • Peace

There isn’t a human being on the planet that does not want these, and leaders are awakening to new ways to tap into people with significantly higher rewards.

It’s time – Are you ready?
