Welcome from Crossroad Farms!

Come anytime to view the bulls prior to the sale.

Gerald, Laurie and Corey.Jody, Jackie, Olivia, Shelby, Jaici and Cooper.

We warmly extend an invitation for you to attend our 7th annual bull & female sale. We have increased the number of bulls in the sale to attempt to accommodate your needs. New this year is the addition of 22 open purebred heifers, they are as good as you will find anywhere and we are confident they will be productive females for their new owners.

We would like to thank all the bidders and buyers from our past sales, many of you traveled long distances to get here and we really appreciate the effort you made to attend. Thank you to our many repeat customers for your continued support and confidence in our program. We have enjoyed getting to know you during the past 16 years of our involvement in the seed stock business and we truly value the many friendships we have made. We want to welcome new customers and we look forward to assisting you with your bull needs. Many customers come to the farm before the sale where they have more time to make their selections. Feel free to stop by the farm anytime, we always enjoy those visits in the bull pen. Tell us about your program and we will try to help you as best we can to make the best choice.

The future has never looked brighter for the beef industry and the commercial cattleman. With beef cattle numbers at a low, the outlook is very positive for prices to remain strong for many years. Simmental genetics have so much to offer, superior maternal traits and performance to produce heavy weight steers and top end heifers to fill the huge demand for replacement females. Choosing a herd bull is one of the most important choices a cattleman has to make. A good bull will pay for himself when you sell his first set of calves. A poor bull, and especially if you keep your replacements, will cost you for years. It really pays to buy the best genetics you can.

The bull sale pictures were taken in November and early December almost three months before our sale date. We wanted to show customers the potential that we see in these bulls at this young age knowing that on sale day they will be purchasing a lot more bull, we hope you like this too. We have also tried to provide enough information in the footnotes to help you make your choices, but if you have any questions, please call, we are always available. Again, our sale offering is strong with good quality and selection, from calving ease to performance with solid genetics that are semen tested and ready to go to work for you.

At this time we would like to say a sincere thank you to our family, friends and neighbors who without hesitation give us a helping hand, before, during and after the sale. Special thanks to Farin Wasden for all her excellent help with our animals and for working week-ends to help me picture. Thank you to Claude Wasden and all the crew working in the back, Jerry, Brian and staff, our good ring men; your work is very much appreciated.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday February 20th. If there is a bull you are interested in but are unable to attend the sale, we have again our very reliable and capable sales staff to bid on your behalf. Just let us know or contact anyone of them for professional service.

Come early and enjoy some Crossroad hospitality, there will be lots of food and refreshments. We hope to see you at the sale and our sincere appreciation to all who have expressed interest in our program.

No Bulls Sold Priorto Sale Day!

Welcome to Crossroad Farms Annual Bull Sale. When I was through the Crossroad bull pens in early November, I was given the opportunity to evaluate one of the stout sets of bulls to be on offer in the spring of 2013. There will be bulls in this group that fill the needs of both purebred and commercial producers. Bulls designed for calving ease to top end performance bulls. At Crossroads, all Simmentals are represented- red and black purebreds to every area in the Fullblood division- horned, polled and Full-Flecks.

I urge you to give Gerald, Laurie or Jody a call and discuss your bull needs. Plan to be in attendance at this annual event. I will have been through the pens early in 2013 and will be very familiar with the bulls on offer. If for any reason you are unable to be in attendance sale day, give me a call and we can discuss your bull requirements.

Here is an impressive Stubby son with a ton of potential. Warden has a tremendous hip and is very smooth made. He displays natural muscle and soundness of structure on a moderate frame and I don't know how many miles you would have to drive to find one with this dark of red colour. We could tell from a very young age that he would be an extremely good bull. This super soggy, thick future herdsire also has good growth, excellent testicle development and style to burn. He was a member of our Supreme Champion pen of bulls over all breeds at the Lloydminster Stockade Round-Up in early November. This is the 8th good calf Warden's ten year old dam has produced, we have two good daughters working in the herd and at last year's bull sale a full brother sold to Arnold St. Marie from Vawn, Sk. Warden is one of our feature bulls with endless qualities that we certainly appreciate. We feel he deserves serious consideration. ~Tested Homo Polled~ 3

This is the third amazing calf crop from our LFE 322U “Stubby” homo polled and hetero black herd sire. He produces calves that are stout and full of meat and muscle. His females are moderate, deep bodied and easy doing with lots of style. Our high seller this year at the 3rd annual Source sale in Lloydminster was an awesome Stubby daughter going to Labatte Simmentals/Hay Valley Simmentals for $14,000.00. Stubby has sired several impressive champions and high sellers over the past three years. We are very pleased with the progeny this young herd sire has produced.

Solid red, quiet natured, thick and full of meat from front to back, liver red with tons of hair and a member of our champion pen of bulls at the Lloydminster Stockade Round-up. Red Answer is a tremendous bull and like his sire has a lot of natural fleshing ability. He has a nice head, is attractive and smooth made. A full brother sold at last year's sale to Circle M Farms at Birtle, Mb. for $16,000. Milt said he worked well and he is very happy with him. Red Answer will not be hard to find on sale day. Breeders be sure to check him out! ~Tested Homo Polled~

Another excellent Stubby son, moderate framed, super thick, solid red with a good hair coat. Born a twin with an 83 pound birth weight and weighing 1200 pounds on the 21stof December. His dam had a Stubby heifer last year that is one of our best in the replacement pen. Balanced EPD's and excellent disposition makes this a complete package for your consideration. ~Tested Homo Polled~

Here is an end of February born bull that is moderate in his make up, very square in his lines and profiles extremely well. His mother is an extremely powerful deep sided black cow that is very consistent in her production. Since we purchased her she has raised a heifer that sold at Simmsational to Sharpe Cattle Co. at Rapid City, MB and another daughter in the herd raised the lot 49 Buckeroo bull, be sure to check him out too. Red Reserves dam is an “M” cow and with our strict culling program she must be pretty darn good to stick around here at Crossroads. Red Reserve is an impressive bull and would be an excellent choice for your next herdsire. ~Tested Hetero Polled~

An exceptional Stubby calf here that will put that “identity” into your calf crop. Deep red in colour with great hair and a blaze face. Rampart is an extremely thick, wide topped, very well balanced calf that catches your eye when you walk in the pen. His young dam is an imprint of 608Z - dark red in colour with a blaze face, and not bad for her first time at bat. Rampart's grandam is an exceptional cow as well, she is the mother of the lot 38 Steakmaker bull, be sure to check him out. Rampart is a very impressive individual whose style and pattern will catch the attention of many whether it be a seed stock producer or a commercial cattleman. In my mind this is the right kind!!! ~Tested Homo Polled~

Solid red, and has the same consistent qualities as the other Stubby sons offered here today. We purchased his dam a few years ago because she was the best looking bred in the barn and her pedigree was something we had never used before. Unfortunately she became sick this fall and we lost her. Red Recoil will give you predictable results of consistency and performance, you can just sit back and watch your calves pack on the pounds. An excellent choice for your new herdsire.

Pictured in mid-November at a little over 9 months of age, you can certainly see the qualities he has to offer and are sure to be pleased with him come sale day. Pontiac is one of Gerald's favourites. February born, moderate frame, super thick, with plenty of performance. His dam raised twin Stubby heifers last year. We sold one of those excellent daughters at the 3rd Annual Source Sale in December to Curtis Simmentals and Risk & Hope Farms for $6,500. She is going to be one awesome female for her new owners. Pontiac has a great combination of genetics to offer, he is an easy doing, good haired bull that will add thickness and style to your calves. Here is a great opportunity to buy a good one. ~Tested Homo Polled~

sold to Riverbend Farms at Waldheim, Sk for $7,250. Diplomat is a really good bull that will sire consistent replacement females and steer calves that are

A black baldy, end of February born bull with a little more frame but the same thickness and quality that all the other Stubby sons

exhibit and he is extremely quiet. His 10 year old fertile dam has given us 10 good calves with 3 females working in the herd and two

others sold to Tyler Farms and Cory Schutte. Her bull calves sold to Craig Stochmanski, Boyd Donahue and Carl Stochmanski. Last year's bull calf was

kept to keep the quality up in our commercial herd. Lots of maternal strength here!! Black Beau will sire a super set of steer calves and some very impressive females too.

Page 13: Crossroad Farms 7th Annual Bull Sale

A moderate birth weight February born bull pictured in mid-November that shows a lot of potential. He has an excellent pedigree that is many times polled. He is the first calf out of a Stubby daughter and the Dynastorm heifer bull we raised and own together with Strate Lakeside Farm. Black Storm is moderate framed and full of thickness and style. He should be very impressive by sale day. An excellent choice for your next herdsire. ~Tested Hetero Polled and Hetero Black~

And here is Black Tie, born in mid-March and selected for our little granddaughter Shelby's first 4-H calf because he was small too. She did an awesome job in the show ring with her 3 month old calf winning Reserve champion for the current year calf division. I guess I could have waited another month to picture little Black Tie but even at 8 months of age you can see the quality he possesses. We are currently flushing his dam, she has given us an exceptional daughter working in the herd, another daughter sold to McMillen Ranching where she is also in their flushing program and a third daughter sold to Peacock Simmentals at Simmsational 2009. Sons were sold to Boyd Donahue and Wingerter Farms. A low birth weight bull with lots of performance. On sale day look for lot #17 Crossroad Black Tie, he's that young bull with a tremendous future! ~Tested Homo Polled and Homo Black~

Here is Dixon, he is the quietest bull in the pen always looking for a scratch. 84 pound birth weight born to a tidy uddered heifer purchased from Maxwell Simmentals at the 1st Annual Source Sale in Lloydminster. Dixon has above average EPD's, good growth and will pass on his excellent traits to his calves. A good combination of genetics to buy into.

A high percentage fleckvieh Cornerstone son that has a white face and a little white on his shoulder and up the legs but

he is also very easy doing, well muscled, deep bodied, big hipped and will make an excellent herdsire. Chinook was mothered by a

young dam that comes from an extremely strong cow family. Again you can expect some very strong, great uddered females from this genetic

combination and steers that will tip the scales. Lots of potential here!

A goggle eyed Cornerstone son that is naturally quiet. He was mothered by a moderate framed, nicely uddered 14P Evan daughter. If you are looking for a bull to make some females, this guy has a ton of maternal power. Good hair, colour and thickness throughout.

Born a 79 pound twin and look at him now! We just cannot say enough about the Cornerstone progeny. They

Here is a polled bull born to a heifer, Skipper is a Showbiz son that is typical to his sire, long bodied with a good hip, excellent feet and legs, super hair coat and good colour. We purchased the Showbiz bull from our good friends at Virginia Ranch in Cremona, AB. He was the best polled bull we had ever seen. We wanted a Tuxedo son to use on our heifers and as we watch his first set of calves develop, he has certainly exceeded our expectations. Excellent traits are what this herdsire will pass on to his calves.

This is the third year we are offering these popular Radium sons at our sale. We have used him successfully on heifers. He calves easy and stamps them all with consistent muscling, colour, temperament and style, style, style. Radium's 3 year old sister and her calf won Supreme Champion Female at Lloydminster Stockade Round-Up and what a perfect udder she has. Our Radium sisters and daughters are excellent uddered too. It pleases us to hear that other breeders that have used Radium are showing champions and getting top dollar for them. Code Red has extreme length, lots of performance and is a real free and easy moving bull. His great uddered dam is due to have another Radium calf any day now. Code Red will add some stretch and style to your next set of calves. Stop by the farm anytime to check out Code Red and the other 20 Radium sons we are offering at our 2013 bull sale, you will not be disappointed.

An excellent full fleck Bradock son with tremendous volume and rib shape. He shows natural muscling in this picture taken at 11

months of age. Bandana has good bone, is structurally correct and gets out and moves extremely well. His BHR Baron sired dam has an exceptionally good udder and produced a good bull that sold in last year's sale to Triple T Ranch at Gull Lake, Sk. Bandana is a bull with undeniable thickness on a bit bigger frame, and will go out and breed a lot of cows. Just imagine the set of steers this soggy bull will sire.

Bourbon is 5 generations fleckvieh, has good thickness, a great rear quarter, good testicle development and profiles so very well with his dark red colour and good hair coat, he also has a wonderful disposition. Bourbon follows in the footsteps of several high sellers that his dam, Crossroad Mahogany, has produced. At our 2008 sale a son sold to Twin Brae Simmentals for $11,000. Tyler Farms purchased a daughter at Simmsational for $5,500 then a bull for $6,500 then another daughter for $6,700 at the 2011 Source. At last year's sale her bull calf was purchased by South Peace Colony at Farmington, B.C. for $8,000. Consistency, quality and rock solid genetics are all a part of Bourbon's package.

A dark red, deep bodied, good quartered March born Radium son. His young dam's bloodline traces back to some exceptionally powerful females. We have one good daughter working in the herd with an absolutely perfect udder. We think Velocity will sire a great set of steer calves and his replacement females should be tremendous.

Another one of those really good Radium sons out of a Cornerstone heifer that has done an excellent job on her first calf. He is naturally quiet, he kept laying down while we were picturing. Gravitron has good length, thick quartered, stylish and is full of maternal strengths. He will do a great job for his new owner.

And here is a small birth weight bull that was born to a heifer with an interesting pedigree. Pictured early, Partner is starting

to show that Radium style with adequate thickness, good colour and hair. I would say he is destined for the heifer pen but would

work well on all types of cows too. If you are looking for a “Partner” to make life easier, then this is the bull for you.

Page 50: Crossroad Farms 7th Annual Bull Sale

A sweet full fleck, moderate framed dark red heifer with pigment on her face and a good hair coat. The Tuxedo females we have are moderate, great coloured and have nice udders. The Porterhouse Regent and Anchor T Impact on her dam's side gives her added maternal strength. I think she will be a good investment and a nice addition to someone's herd.

One hundred and fifty open heifers in the Crossroad replacement heifer pen is way too many, so the decision was made to include some in our annual bull sale. We are offering a wide representation of our herd. They were bred to add valuable genetics to our herd and we are confident they will be productive females for their new owners too.

We are proud of what some of the females we have sold at previous sales have done for their new owners. Several have gone on to produce high selling bulls and females for their operations. We will also be offering some heifer packages off the farm this spring that will be available for viewing anytime. Call or come and have a look before the sale. We always look forward to your visits.

After much family discussion, we are pleased to offer you this Full Fleck transplant daughter from the heart of our program. A February born Doorn daughter out of a MFI cow with the super pedigree of Knight MR T and Helga 10Y. We purchased this cow together with our good friends Mark, Sebastien and Philippe from Quebec. We are just starting to see the high quality progeny this great uddered female is producing and we feel that her daughter, Zamaica, has the potential to be an elite producer too. A stylish heifer on offer today with a proven pedigree, a tremendous future lies ahead for Zamaica.
