Double page spread Deconstruction

The Masthead is very bold and eye catching. It used strong words such as “Poisoning” and “Killed” which will catch the readers attention, as will the numerical figures. The use of numerical figures such as “11” and “17” works much better than writing the full word “Eleven”. Writing it in number form makes the masthead much easier to read, more informal and more snappier; This will be much more appealing to the audience.

The masthead is in the top left hand corner to ensure that it is the first thing the viewer reads. The masthead also takes up much of the page so that it really attracts the attention of the viewers. The whole of the masthead and cover lines fit in with a colour scheme of red, white and black for maximum effect.

The large main image along the right hand side of the page attracts attention to the article and also puts a face to the story; making the article more realistic and gives the reader something to relate to.

The person/model in the image is dressed casually to show the readers that the article is about a normal every day person, this gives the audience something to relate to.

The large ‘M’ shows the reader where the article begins and also directs the viewers eyes to the text. This is known as a drop caps.

The font is all the same for the actual story. The spacing is even and consistent.

There is a strap-line to inform readers further about the article and to summarise what the article will be about. The strapline uses adjectives suck as “Shocking” to draw readers in

A kicker is used at the very top of the page to hook the reader in.

• A limited colour pallet is used. The colour pallet is very similar colours to the type used in the images.

• A Newspaper clipping is used to attract attention and to show the reader that this isnt the first time that something similar has happened (in this case, teen binge drinking) and that their magazine also uses things discussed on newspaper headlines.

• There are very few spaces/gaps on the page. This ensures that more text can be fitted on the page and also ad’s a sophisticated feel to the magazine
