In November Mo Bros take action by changing their appearance through the growth of a new moustache for the 30 days of Movember, and in doing so become walking, talking billboards for men’s health. But it’s not just for bros … Mo Sistas sign up and commit to supporting the men in their lives while helping to promote men’s health at home, in the workplace and within their community.

MOVEMBER ON CAMPUSNothing brings strict teachers, lovely librarians, class clowns, and everyone on campus together like Movember. Rallying around the moustache is a fantastic way to unite a university or school. The level of education doesn’t matter when it comes to having fun while raising funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer.

Switch it up!To help you stay motivated, try to exercise with a bit of variety. If you usually go for a long run each morning, try doing some interval training instead. Alternatively, shake things up entirely by swapping your run for a sports game or energetic dance class.

Make it socialPlaying sport or exercising with a friend is a great way to make your workout seem less like a chore. Encourage a friend to go with you on a run, attend a weekly fitness class with you or just accompany you on a lunchtime walk.

Change the venueTo make your workouts more fun, try switching up the location. Make the most of sunny days: go hiking, go for a run through the local park or do a spot of yoga in your back garden. For lazy days, you could even do your workouts in front of the TV.

Find an exercise you loveWhile you might think that exercise is not something you would ever enjoy, this is probably because you haven’t tried the right type of exercise yet. With such a wide variety of sports, fitness classes and

workouts available, there is bound to be something out there for all of us.

Treat yourselfWho doesn’t love treating themselves

to something new? Add some fun to your fitness by purchasing a new item

of clothing, piece of kit or gadget that

you just can’t wait to try.

Relive your childhoodRemember how effortless staying active used to be when you were a kid? Happily, in the last few years gyms and health clubs have latched on to this concept and brought out a range of fitness classes that feel more like reliving your childhood games than working out. Some such classes include hula hooping and ballet-inspired workouts.

Exercise to your favourite musicTo make your workouts more enjoyable, try putting together an exercise playlist of your favourite songs. Not only can music boost your mood, it is also a great way to boost your motivation and can provide distraction and entertainment while you exercise.

Have a happy and fit summer!

7 ways to make fitness fun!No matter how much you love your favourite fitness class, exercise DVD or running route, doing the same thing over and over is bound to get boring after a while.

The school year will be coming to a close soon, and many junior school (and some high school) moms will have begun to look for teacher gifts. What sort of gift do you

give the people you have entrusted your children to? It can be difficult to find a gift that truly shows how much you appreciate all that these individuals have done for you child.

I suggest using your creativity.

A voucher from the Apple App Store

A jar filled with her favourite tea

Hand cream with a clever card!

A special planter for the teacher that helped you grow

Lovely nail polish for the teacher that helped you sparkle!

In and around the house3NOVEMBER 2014

You’re either very excited to get rid of your diary, or still in denial that this year is drawing to a close. Either way, here’s a clever idea to re use your 2014 diary.

By Jani Goussard / Paint & Decor DIYhttp://www.paintdecordiy.co.za

For more great DIY projects visit Jani’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/verbeelding.paintdecordiy

• An old hard cover diary• Pretty fabric• Modge Podge • Paint brush

• Scissors• Card• Super glue• Some imagination

YOU’LL NEED:

WHAT TO DO:

Paint your diary’s front, back and spine with modge podge.

Place your photo over the book and mark where you need to stick your photo.

Cover the diary with fabric, like you would cover your school books and let it dry.

Stick the photo corners down with glue.

Fold four photo corners using strips of card that you fold into triangles.

When the glue has dried insert your photo and enjoy!

GRAAD 6-KAMP BY HOBBITON ON HOGSBACKDie hoogtepunt van enige leerder by Laerskool Nahoon is defnitief die gr. 6-kamp by Hobbiton.

ArcheryThe Gonubie Archery Club ended off a busy season with a tour to Cape Town to participate in the Nationals in October. Besides taking part in the tournament, they managed to take some time out for sight-seeing in the Fairest Cape and a scenic stay-over at Storms River.

Marimba TourGonubie Primary’s Marimba Band recently went on a tour to the Tsitsikamma area where they visited Tsitsikamma Primary School and ran a workshop for the local children and entertained them with some traditional dancing. Fortunately there was also time to take in some of the sights before they ended their tour with a concert in Kareedouw on their way home.

Learners at Beaconhurst had the opportunity to gain valuable life experience when representatives from Second Chance came to visit from 20-22 October. These representatives shared their life stories with pupils and cautioned them against substance abuse and informed them of the consequences of it. Pupils had the opportunity to ask the representatives questions and receive advice about peer pressure, friends, and life goals or dreams. Teachers and parents also had sessions where they were given guidelines on what to do with the children at school and at home, as well as how to make a safe, healthy environment for the learners.

Second Chance was a reality check on how dangerous substance abuse really is and how common it is amongst school children and it truly prepared Beaconhurst learners on how to act in difficult situations.

Beaconhurst welcomes their new headmasterBeaconhurst was without a principal from the beginning of this year and was ably managed by the Acting Principal, Mr Doug Prior. Our previous headmaster, Mr Peter Mey, retired at the end of 2013 and left a void that was hard to fill. On 3 October 2014, Mr Aubrey Norman was welcomed into the Beaconhurst family and took his place at the helm of the school. Mr Norman did his two years of National Service and qualified as an Electrician. He worked as an Engineering Technician for Spoornet for nine years. In April 1991, Mr Norman began his career as an educator and joined the staff of Port Rex Technical High School. It was during this time that Mr Norman studied education part time. In four, short years, Mr Norman was appointed Acting Head of Department. He held this position until 2009, when he was eventually appointed in an official capacity

as Head of Department. In January 2014, Mr Norman took up the post as Acting Deputy Headmaster at Port Rex Technical High School. He held this post until the end of last term. Beaconhurst is delighted to have secured the services of such a dynamic, interesting, down to earth gentleman.

EarlyAct members were invited to attend the Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer annual fundraising event at Hemingways Mall in September. These “cupcake angels” helped sell cupcakes to raise funds for this very worthy cause.

Poetry EisteddfodWe are proud of our two learners, Tatum Knox in 1 Lezar and Noah Honey in 2 Heaton, who won double gold and gold respectively. Two Grade 2 classes also won double golds for their class poetry. They are Mrs Heaton’s and Mrs Breetzke’s classes.

Matric ExamsOur matric exams have started and to date everything is going very well at Hudson Park. Mrs Christalla Ferreira, on duty in her last matric exam as the Chief Invigilator, has a team of matric teachers working very closely with her. Mrs Cathy Van Der Merwe will be the Academic Head taking over from Mrs Ferreira. She has already obviously taken over a number of the functions as a lead into 2015. Hudson Park High School takes this opportunity to wish all the Matrics of 2014 success for the future and we wish them good luck for their future endeavours.

AcademicWe are very proud that Hudson Park has been ranked on 2 criteria nationally in the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Circle of Excellence Schools. At the Conference in Grahamstown a few weeks ago we were called up to receive 3rd place awards in the 2 categories: Personal Initiative and Successful Fellows. It is encouraging that all 3 of our 2014 nominees made it right through to the final camp. We await the outcome with excitement. CulturalHudson Park won the East Cape Debating competition and Maya Godden was chosen as best speaker. She will represent South Africa next year as will Mihlali Xozwa who goes to New York for the International Model UN Conference. Our 2nd place in the East Cape Drama Festival was significant (we have won twice and come 2nd

Pastoral Our Valedictory service was good and Christalla Ferreira’s speech was very well received. The day started with our traditional breakfast with the matrics and a period of time receiving instructions followed by the very well received staff song sung to the matrics, and then the ceremony itself. Our best wishes obviously accompany our matrics as they negotiate the final school academic hurdle. Concert. The Qhayiya Choir entertained. The Santa Shoe Box campaign was highly successful at Hudson Park. 120 boxes were filled and there was much efficiency and enthusiasm from our prefects and Interact members to make this a huge success.

GEORGIES GRADE 7 TOURGeorge Randell Primary Grade 7 learners recently embarked on their tour of the Oudtshoorn area. This annual tour gives the learners the opportunity of bringing to life the History, Geography and Science lessons taught throughout their primary school years, as well as the opportunity of experiencing some of the

A leadership course which included an obstacle course encouraged teamwork and perseverance – life skills that are essential for well-balanced individuals. The 5 day tour ended in beautiful Knysna with a visit to the Featherbed Nature Reserve and a visit to The Heads.

Break Out The Tissues, Nick Jonas Dishes On The

“Necessary” JoBros Break UpLooks like the Jonas

Brothers have no plans to reunite as a band and make new music any time soon…In his latest interview with HungerTV,

Nick Jonas — the JoBro, had this to say, when asked about the difficulty of leaving the band: “It was a real necessity to close that chapter in order to have a healthy relationship as a family. Things had become strained in a way.

We made the decision to be a family first and to prioritise that. That meant closing the group but we knew

it would be OK because we knew we would be strong as a family…”While the break up of one of the greatest boy bands to ever exist in the history of ever is still a sad thought, at least Nick’s career has really taken off in recent months. He’s literally become a huge internet sensation, and although his chiseled muscles probably have something to do with that, his new

solo music is still really, really good.“…I had this music in my heart that I wanted to write and I was just really fortunate to be able to do it,” said Nick about finally being able to focus on his own material for his upcoming, self-titled album.

According to Apple, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available in a total of 69 countries and territories by the end of the month and are on track to be available in more than 115 countries by the end of the year, making this the fastest iPhone rollout ever.

iPhone 6 isn’t simply bigger — it’s better in every way. Larger, yet dramatically thinner. More powerful, but remarkably power efficient. With a smooth metal surface that seamlessly meets the new Retina HD display. It’s one continuous form

iPhone 6 is here! The wait is almost over, and just in time to add

it to your Chirstmas wishlist.function in perfect unison, creating a new generation of iPhone that’s better by any measure.

NOT JUST A BIGGER DISPLAY. A BETTER DISPLAY. It’s one thing to make a bigger display. It’s something else entirely to make a bigger Multi-Touch display with brilliant colors and higher contrast at even wider viewing angles. But that’s exactly what Apple has done with the new Retina HD display.

HUGELY POWERFUL. ENORMOUSLY EFFICIENT. Built on 64-bit desktop-class architecture, the new A8 chip delivers more power, even while driving a larger display. The M8

and a new barometer. And with increased battery life, iPhone 6 lets you

do more, for longer than ever.
