Electricity Rationalization Campaign

ELECTRICAL SAFETY HAZARDS

Page 2: Electricity Advices and Awareness

Introduction Electricity is an essential element in our daily lives, and electrical appliances such as TV, refrigerator, washing machine, lamps and other devices become available in every home. Modern life depends entirely on electricity, while considered by many to be one of the most important unnatural resources of life that must be preserved. Utilization of electricity has facilitated our daily lives up to the welfare stage, and it should be noted that misuse of electricity may expose us to many risks, for this reason, we should never neglect preven-tion of its hazard.

Electricity Faults Indicators: There are some signs that indicate the electrical faults that may lead to the occurrence of certain risks such as electrocution, electrical shock and fires; we must pay attention to the following signs:

1- Overheating of wall-related electrical plugs. 2- Difference in the glow of the lights. Slight electric shock that give a feeling

of tingle3- when you touch some electrical appliances. 4- Frequent electrical fuse outages. 5- Burning smell from some of the devices and connections.

The impact of electricity current on human body

• Burns

• Fires

• Electrocution

• loss of sight and in some cases

• Electrical explosion

• Death.

Prevent electricity hazards

• Don't touch pools of water resulting from rain and linked with sources of

electricity such as (Electricity poles or electrical transformers and boxes).

• Don’t approach electricity poles and cables that disrupted as a result

of rain or storms.

• Avoid crossing the water in case of disrupted power poles or cables.

• In the case of the public electricity networks affected by rain and storms,

please communicate with our Contact Center (80077787).

• Switches must be replaced with new ones when spark appear from

them.

• Perform electrical work by qualified technicians and under the super

vision of specialized engineers specialists and their work should be per-

formed pursuant to the standard specifications.

• Upon power outages, all devices such as refrigerators, washing ma-chines, computers and other devices must be unplugged so as not to ex-pose these devices to damage when power returns to service.

• Keep cables and wires away from water and heat sources such as hot water pipes or hot appliances.

• When removing electrical connection from the socket, you must remove the plug without affecting the cord so as not to cause removal of the inter-nal wire, which is causing personal risk.

• Check cables, connections and devices from time to time as they are sus-ceptible to damage.

• Do not touch light switches with wet hands.• Do not run electrical appliances while standing on wet ground or mois-

tened with water or barefoot. • Never allow children to play near electrical devices and networks such as

the public electricity utility poles and boxes. • Switch off the power during maintenance and repair work.• Disconnect the electrical appliances’ plug immediately in case of mal-

function and replaced immediately.

Safety measures in the home:

1 - Provide a multi-purpose fire extinguisher (powder - carbon diox-ide) and must follow the following:

• It should be kept at a readily accessible and prominent loca-tion known to all family members and vertically away from the reach of children.

• It should be serviced and inspected at regular intervals.

2 - Install smoke detectors in the kitchen and corridors and maintain and replace when necessary.

3 - Train family members on the use of safety methods and assembly at a certain safe point in the house.

4 - Provide a first aid kit; place it far from the reach of children with necessary medicines and medical supplies.

Steps taken to fight electrical fires:

• Switch off the power before firefighting operations.

• Use of firefighters that are commensurate with the burning materials.

• If you cannot turn off the power or uncertainty of that then you must

use firefighter’s materials that do not have electrical conductivity

property and shall not have harmful impact on the devices, such

materials containing halogens fumes, dry chemical powders, and

carbon dioxide.
