PHOTONICS SHOW DAILY Q: What makes your company unique? A: Beyond product performance, price, and initial quality, we put great emphasis on long term reliability. Like a caged animal, high voltage is always trying to escape. Many failure mecha- nisms take years to manifest themselves, especially in harsh environments. Our successful high voltage design combines electrical engineering with chemistry and physics. We follow strict design rules and only employ proven components and processes. Our products are expected to last decades in critical applications. Customers must trust the EMCO brand. Q: What distinguishes your products from the competition? A: Our new products achieve leading performance and exceptional reliability by leveraging our 40+ year history of continuous high voltage research, product development and design work. We know what works, and what doesn’t. We’ve analyzed long term failure mechanisms in harsh environments, and employ preventative practices in all of our products, while remaining cost-competitive. Q: What were the most significant series of events affecting your company in the past year? A: As real estate became more available and affordable, we invested in our infrastructure to support our increased design and production demand. During 2011 we opened new manu- facturing plants in California and Nevada and a new Research and Design center. We have also recruited new talent to bolster our capabilities. Q: Where is your current product emphasis? What products do you see as being hottest this year? A: Our new A Series of DC to high voltage DC converters feature a Z height of only one quarter of an inch, and occupy one tenth of an inch in total volume. This often allows the user to locate the high voltage source right where it is needed, eliminating the need to run cabling, connectors or long high voltage runs from a remote supply. Q: What is your outlook for this product line? A: High voltage solves many scientific problems such as DNA sequencing and semi-conductor processing. As new and existing technologies are commercialized and become more portable, our products frequently offer an order of magnitude reduction in size, weight, and cost, enabling our customers to produce a more elegant and efficient end product. Q: Who are your target end-users? A: We offer component-level products to leading medical, scientific, semi-conductor, and other equipment manufacturers where reliability and up-time is critical. Q: To what do you attribute your company’s success? A: Humble dedication to providing the best products and support to our customers, with the goal of earning their trust and building long term relationships. The new A Series from EMCO

High Voltage Corporation sets a new

industry standard in high voltage

miniaturization. This unique package

occupies one tenth of a cubic inch of

volume, and features an extremely low

profile of only 0.250 inches (6.35mm).

Controllable output voltages range

from 100 volts to 6000 volts. These

component-sized converters are ideal

for applications requiring minimal size

and weight. Turn-on voltage is very

low at less than 0.7 volts, allowing for

wide output voltage operating range.

Use of a resonant, quasi-sinewave

oscillator and fully shielded transformer

result in clean, reliable high voltage

conversion with inherently low ripple,

EMI/RFI and input ripple current,

making this product ideal for integra-

tion into noise sensitive equipment.

A separate high impedance control pin

is standard and is designed for external

error amplifier and/or DAC control

in closed or open loop systems. Output

power is 1 watt standard, with 1.5

watts available as an option. A pro-

prietary encapsulation process and

custom 94V0 compliant, high perfor-

mance formula are used to achieve

excellent high voltage and thermal

properties. Isolation is +/- 500V bias

on the output return. Input to output

leakage current is very low at less

than 100 nA and coupling capaci-

tance is also low at <250 pF.

The new A Series leverages EMCO’s

Best-in-Class long term reliability,

utilizing proven DC to high voltage

DC conversion technology, perfected

by over four decades of high voltage

design experience in the most

demanding applications.

This series is designed and manufac-

tured to provide consistent, built-in,

long term reliability that EMCO

products are known for. The A Series is

manufactured in EMCO’s “Flex-Chain”

lean, demand-flow process that

provides maximum quality, short lead

times, and assures our customers the

lowest total cost of ownership.

Leading the High Voltage

Manufacturing Industry

EMCO High Voltage Corporation leads

the industry through innovative design

and manufacturing of high voltage

power supplies and related products. In

fact, many of today's industry standard

footprints for high voltage modules are

EMCO originated designs.

EMCO’s uncompromising commitment

to quality and reliability throughout the

last four decades has resulted in our

products becoming a trusted part in

many generations of customer solutions.

All EMCO products have an operating

frequency greater than 25 kHz, above

the human audio frequency range.

The new FS Series of miniature DC

to High Voltage DC converters from EMCO

High Voltage Corporation sets a new

standard of performance and reliability.

FS Series design performance is greatly

improved by leveraging EMCO’s proven

high voltage power conversion technology

and adding new “Smart Features” to

enhance long-term reliability and surviv-

ability in harsh, mission-critical applications.

The FS Series provides outputs ranging

from 200VDC through 6000VDC, and

is offered in a unique, miniature, cost

effective, light weight, PC mount package.

In addition to arc protection, short circuit

protection, and output surge current limiting,

the FS Series adds over-temperature

protection, and input over-voltage protec-

tion, creating a module able to survive

unintended fault conditions, thereby

maximizing durability in the field.

Automatic, non-latching shutdown is

activated when pre-set temperature or

input voltage limits are exceeded. A

latching error signal output is issued to alert

the host system of the event. An externally

controlled disable function is standard.

Resonant, quasi-sinewave power conversion

topology and a fully shielded transformer

create low ripple and low EMI/RFI, allowing

for easy integration into compact, noise

sensitive equipment.

By offering a wide input voltage operating

range, starting at just 0.7V input, the FS

Series provides easy programming control

of the high voltage output. Advanced

internal thermal management techniques

and a unique housing design, combining

aluminum and plastic, provides optimized

thermal and stable, reliable high voltage

performance.

Using EMCO’s proprietary, superior

performance encapsulation formula and

time-proven processes, our factory delivers

a high voltage converter designed and

built for decades of failure-free operation

in demanding environments.

EMCO’s “Flex-Chain” demand-flow supply

chain guarantees maximum quality and

reliability, short lead-times, the most competi-

tive pricing in the industry, and delivers the

lowest cost of ownership possible.
