first filming day reflection
TRANSCRIPT
First Filming Day:
22nd January 2016 – This is the date in which our group got together for the first time with costume
and props, to film draft shots of what we would actually do in the real trailer. What this first day of
filming does was to give us an initiative of what will and won’t work. Reflecting on the shots during
the day, we understood which camera angles worked and which didn’t. The aim was to see how our
shots would represent the scene and the feeling of the character within the scene. We as a group
experimented with many different shots of the same scene and action. This gave us a variety of
shots to choose and reflect upon, understanding whether they were effective in portraying the
emotions and feel of the atmosphere. Our roles during the day were as:
Francis (Me) – Actor (Ross Gibson) and directing shots.
Matt Da Silva – Camera man and directing shots.
Hashan Ariyanwansa – Actor (Antagonist)
Luca Bondi – Director
E.B.I:
We had both positives and negatives from the experience, especially with the weather. The
weather was wet and damp, which would frequently interfere with the visibility of the
camera lens. This would mean for a lot of the time, we were trying to clear the rain from the
lens. This also made the camera focus on the rain drop not the background in which we
wanted to film. We quickly however more or less sorted this problem out as we (shown in
the behind the scenes images) used a scarf to cover the camera, which blocked the rain 90%
of the time.
Even though I had my costume with me, we had decided to try the ending scene with ROSS
following the Antagonist. The Antagonist was Hashan, and as shown in the test shots he was
not in the appropriate wear for the scene, which minimised the scene to be as scary and
tense as it could be.
I also believe we could have taken just a couple more shots the same scene. Even though we
stayed consistent throughout taking multiple shots of the same scene, there would have
been no harm in taking a couple of more, giving us a greater choice of shots and a bigger
probability of the shot looking professional and well -rehearsed.
Not seen clearly but the
weather was dam and wet
which could have had health
implications. Also dangerous
with electronics.
As you can see, the costume is
fairly casual and does not
match the costume of the
character within the trailer.
