Firstly, we have boosted mobile coverage and will be providing free Wi-Fi for this year’s event. And we are on hand to provide information on the NBN, new handsets and the latest products.

The NBN

Telstra has brought its NBN Experience Van with local staff from the Mount Gambier Telstra store to the South East Field Days.

There are currently around 28,500 properties in the South East that can connect to the nbn network.

In 2018 more nbn sites in Kalangadoo, Glencoe and Millicent West are expected to come on line, offering customers fast and reliable internet and putting a range of new services and applications within reach of residents and businesses.

“Visitors can drop in at their convenience to have a chat with us, to see when their property will be able to connect up and learn about the installation process,” said Mark Bolton, Telstra’s Area General Manager for SA.

“Individuals, communities and businesses are becoming increasingly digital-dependent. We’re streaming more video content than ever, uploading huge amounts of data and, by 2021 households are expected to own an average of 30 connected smart devices.“The rollout of the NBN will help Telstra to support this surge in data demand and allow locals to make their households smarter and their businesses more efficient.

“It means one of the kids will be able to stream Netflix on the tablet while another watches a movie on the Telstra TV, and the parents can be working online on the laptop, all at the same time with a reliable connection,” explains Mr Bolton.

View new telecommunications products and servicesVisitors to the Telstra site can take the opportunity to get some technical help with their devices, as well as review and upgrade their mobile services.

We will have the latest handsets and other technology devices available for sale. One of these devices will be the new Telstra TV2, an affordable device that helps make streaming Freeview TV and video on demand services such as Netflix easy to access.

Learn about improved mobile and data coverage in the area

In the past three months, Telstra has upgraded the mobile tower at Tarpeena to be 4GX compatible, installed a 4G Small Cell at Mount Gambier Airport and constructed a new Mobile Black Spot base station at Mundulla West.

The 4GX network GX uses superior 700MHz spectrum that can go further than previous 4G frequencies, creating extra 4G coverage in rural and regional areas. The new 4GX network will supplement existing Telstra 3G services in the region.

In the coming months, we will be expanding coverage in Conmurra and Biscuit Flat with the

installation of 4G Small Cells, as well as enhancing 4G coverage in Kalangadoo with an upgrade to our site.

“Telstra is committed to the ongoing improvement and expansion of our mobile network to provide better and more reliable coverage for South Australians,” Mr Bolton said.

Telstra is providing a 4GX service to the South East Field Days via a temporary antenna and infrastructure, boosting mobile coverage for Telstra customers who visit.

Telstra is also providing free Wi-Fi hotspots for visitors at three sites- the Administration office, the Tavern bar and the Templeton Food Court. To gain Wi-Fi access come and see our friendly staff at site 155 to obtain the password.
