AHS Seniors Awarded $119,750 in Scholarships

At the tender age of 25, Michael Wilson has decided he will “pay it forward” and help a 2018 graduate of Allen High School with a new scholarship award. Wilson, who attended Boyd and Green Elementary, Ereckson Middle School and graduated from AHS in 2010, is a full-time City of Allenfirefighter/paramedicandapart-timerealtor. “Ialwayshadmymindsettobeafireman,”Wilson explains. “I knew I had to have a clear focus and a good plan for a career so that I could be successful. And I’ve always liked doing things that help other people.” He began his career with the City of DeSoto and joined the Allen force in March of 2016.

They showed me that there was so much opportunity here, that I just had to be ready to compete for what I wanted and always give more than I take.“

Kim and Tom Miller, owners of TradeMark Car Wash in Allen presented a brand new scholarship at the Foundation’s April 27th Scholarship Reception. The $4,000 scholarship is the largest ever presented through the Foundation and was awarded to Ashton Gilmore. The Millers are passionate about education and community involvement. “As long-time residents, we feel a strong connection with the school district. All

three of our kids were very involved with and graduated from Allen High School,” said Kim. “Not to mention during the past decade and a half we have employed literally dozens of AHS students at our car wash, who at times felt like an extension of our family!” The TradeMark Car Wash Scholarship rewards a student who has shown determination, diligence, a strong work ethic, and a positive approach in school as well as the ability to support and lead other students towards success. Ashton Gilmore was chosen by the Foundation to receive this new award. Gilmore was captain of the Allen Men’s Varsity Basketball team his senior year and recently committed to play basketball for Wayland Baptist University where he plans to pursue a degree in criminology. Beyond his academic and athletic achievements, it was Gilmore’s positive attitude and determination that truly set him apart. “Ashton is not only accomplished, but a joy to be around,” said Kim Miller. “As local business owners, we are honored to give directly back to our community by helping a local student like Ashton further his collegiate goals.” Kim Miller served as a board member of the Foundation from 2014 until June 2017 and has also been an active PTA volunteer andofficerattheelementary, middle, highschoolandCouncillevels.TradeMark Car Wash is a full service car wash with locations in Allen and Plano and is part of the parent company, Car Wash Companies.
