Our Story…Welcome to the Get Set for School™ Pre-K readiness curriculum. This program is a celebration of children and the educators who help them gain the skills and experiences they need to begin a lifetime of joyful learning. We developed Get Set for School in response to requests from teachers who were looking for hands-on teaching materials and strategies that would make learning fun and easy for their Pre-K students.

Get Set for School got its start almost 10 years ago with our occupational therapists who brought their unique skills to teaching young children. Their ingredients for successful learning? Break difficult concepts into simple tasks. Believe that every child can achieve. Use really cool materials that make children want to learn.

In 2011, we are excited to introduce the expanded Get Set for School program that teaches core readiness and writing as well as critical early language, literacy, number, and math skills. The Get for School team has also grown and includes teachers, researchers, professors and parents, and therapists. Together we have developed a program that takes important but complex subjects—such as emergent literacy, algebra, even geometry (yikes!)—and makes them accessible to engage preschoolers’ minds, hands, and hearts.

Get Set for School will bring your Pre-K classroom to life as your children sing, dance, color, and build their way toward a lifetime of joyful learning.

As you explore all our offerings, we hope that you will recognize delight, encounter magic, and experience inspiration. Come on in. We’ve been waiting for you!

Get Set for School™ Welcome to the world of Get Set for School, where all children thrive. Our award-winning curriculum uses hands-on activities, lively music and

child-friendly teaching strategies to help young learners get set for school. We believe that learning should be easy and fun—and that all children have the capacity to achieve.

We’ve come a long way since we first created Get Set for School in 2003. Our Pre-K curriculum now includes three complete programs that teach: readiness and writing, language and literacy, and numbers and math. These programs expand your teaching with the special ingredients that make our curriculum a success:

•Multisensoryapproachthataddressesdifferentlearningstyles

•Developmentalprogressionthatbuildsonwhatchildrenalreadyknow

•Friendlyvoicethatconnectswithchildren

•Engagingstrategiesthatinviteactiveparticipation

Prepare your children for kindergarten with Get Set for School.

Readiness & Writing Our hands-on teaching strategies introduce music and movement

to bring lessons to life, and multisensory manipulatives to help children build fine and gross motor skills they need to learn to write. With our readiness and writing program children learn body awareness, cooperation, taking turns, and listening. The program also promotes crayon grasp, drawing, building, letter and number recognition, capital letter and number formation.

Language & Literacy Children begin developing language skills from the moment they are born.

Our language and literacy program uses a hands-on approach to make lessons come alive. Children learn syllables, names and sounds of letters, words linked to concepts, new words in spoken language, how to respond to simple questions, and how to have discussions.

Numbers & Math We demystify numbers and make math concepts relevant and fun for children.

With playful manipulatives, music, and rhymes, our numbers and math program teaches counting, comparisons, spatial awareness, patterning, sequencing, matching, sorting, and problem solving.

Journey through these pages and explore our offerings.

English Language Learners:To help children understand front and back, show students the front/ back of different items in the classroom (e.g. the front/back of their bodies, a chair, a desk).

ObjectiveChildren will learn to hold a book right side up. They will also identify the front and back cover, spine, title, author, illustrator, top, bottom and pages of a book.

ActivityLet’s learn all about books. Books have different parts.

1. Show a book and point out the front and back covers and spine.

2. Have children hold up the front and back covers of their My Book.

3. Have children show the spine of their My Book.

4. Have children show the top and bottom of My Book.

5. Show a second book. Read the author’s name. The author writes the words in the book. Read the illustrator’s name. The illustrator draws the pictures.

6. Have children point to their name on the front cover of My Book. Tell them they are the author of My Book.

Check for Understanding

Every now and then during reading time, make a deliberate mistake. I am going to read. But show the cover upside down or the start reading from the back. They’ll think you’re so silly and help you. They’ll tell you what they know!

Book Par ts: Ins ide & Out

Children are fascinated by books. They enjoy being read to and imitating reading in play. Learning the parts of a book and the proper way to hold a book will help children become successful readers.
