Casas Christian School Summer Program

Welcome to the summer program at Casas Christian School! We look forward to meeting you and

your child. Our desire is to offer a summer program that feels different from the routine of the regular

school year. We want to enjoy these summer experiences with a fresh perspective and celebrate all

that we discover together in a safe and nurturing environment that honors God and seeks Jesus. Our

theme revolves around a passage in the Bible, Isaiah 40:31 "…but those who hope in the Lord will renew

their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles.”

How to Register

Complete the online registration. Classes fill quickly; to ensure your child’s class choice(s), select “Pay in Full” at

checkout. Classes are limited to 20 students each and are on a first come, first paid basis for all sessions.

The Registration Fee is $45. Registrations completed by Sunday, March 31, will receive a $10 Early Bird Discount.

Class Fees

Class fees are as indicated on the Registration form. Supply fees are additional and vary by class; please see

the Class Descriptions or Class Schedules for pricing.

Refund Policy

Refunds are issued for any cancelled classes. Refunds for other reasons will be honored up until one week prior

to the beginning of classes.

Discipline Policy

No refunds will be issued for students who are asked to leave the program because of misbehavior.

Safety

All students must be signed into the program each day. Parents will sign out their children directly from the

teacher after the child’s last class, or from the Extended Care program depending upon the time of

departure. Only those individuals listed on your child’s Emergency Information Form will be allowed to sign out

your child. A driver’s license may be required for identification purposes. We appreciate your understanding

and support in this matter.

Snack/Lunch

Children should pack a snack for the morning snack time. Also, make sure to send your child with a sack lunch if

they are staying through the lunch period. Hot lunches are available on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays;

these need to be pre-ordered (please see enclosed flyer for further details).

Extended Care

We provide safe, supervised care for students arriving before 8:00 a.m. or staying after 2:15 p.m. The fee is $4.00

per hour, billed in 15 minute increments. Extended Care is available from 7:00-8:00 a.m. and 2:15-6:00 p.m.

If a student is picked up after 6:00 p.m., there is a late charge of $5.00 for the first 15 minutes, and $10.00 for each

additional 15 minute increment or portion thereof. No refunds are given for Extended Care services as they are

charged on an actual-use basis.

Extended Care costs will be billed separately at the end of each session.

Archery – Bullseye!! Learn how to safely use a bow and arrow and become a real archer! We will be

shooting at a variety of targets and participating in fun tournaments with prizes.

Are You Game? – Traditional board games, card games and paper/pencil games will be taught and

played to strengthen hand-eye coordination, critical thinking skills, and social interaction. In addition,

language and math learning will be reinforced. What’s the best part? It’s FUN!

Baking Buddies – Do you enjoy working in the kitchen? Get together with friends and have fun creating

yummy treats that will impress your parents! **Please be aware that food products are used that may

contain food allergens such as nuts, eggs, milk, wheat and soy.

Basketball Skills – Hype up your basketball game in this camp! Students will participate in various drills

that aim to improve their skills on the court such as ball handling, layups, and shooting the two-pointers!

Show off your newly adopted skills in 3:3 and 5:5 scrimmages. We’re going to have a ball!

Camp Crafts – If you have ever attended summer camp then you know that making crafts can be one of

the most exciting parts of the day! Even if you haven’t attended camp, you will come to love “camp crafts”

in this class! We will complete a variety of different crafts that you can take home. You will learn lanyard

stitches, make potholders, create Popsicle stick treasure boxes, paint seashells, and so much more!

Craft Craze – Are you creative and crafty? Can you look at an item and envision turning it into something

amazing? If glitter, feathers, glue, painting, and coloring spell FUN to you, then you are a perfect fit for this

class. Join us while we explore the world of crafting, where our endless creativity will take charge! For

those of you who wish you could be craftier, we’d love to share our ideas with you, so join us for a

summer of Craft Craze!

Dance/Cheer – Learn basic cheer motions, jumps, a sideline dance, jazz dance techniques, and a

performance piece. We’ll perform at the end of the session for parents to celebrate your progress!

Dinosaur Discovery – T-Rex, Stegosaurus, Brontosaurus, Pterodactyls, Triceratops, oh my! Are you

interested in learning more about these amazing creatures? Then this mini unit is for you! For each class

we will read and discuss a nonfiction book about dinosaurs! Then, we will work on a connected craft. Do

you want to make dinosaur snot? How about learning the Dinosaur Stomp? Creating fossils and bubble

wrap dinosaur skin are also planned! Come join us for a dino-riffic time!

Disney Fans – Do you love all things Disney? Do you have a favorite Disney movie or Broadway show that

you love to see again and again? We will explore the magical world of Disney and Pixar’s creations in this

course. We will learn Disney songs, perform fairytale reader’s theater, and make exciting Disney-themed

crafts. We will learn to draw Minnie and Mickey Mouse and make a puppet theater too! The fun will never

end as we explore the magic of Disney.

Disney in Depth – Get ready to put on your mouse ears and your thinking caps! Using games, crafts,

short movie clips, and group discussions we will learn about the history behind the classic Disney movies

we love. In addition, we will travel around the world and explore different cultures with Disney

characters like Mulan, Pocahontas, and Aladdin.

Duct Tape Art – Did you know you could make a wallet out of duct tape? Join this class and learn how to

make a wallet and a variety of other crafts out of colorful duct tape. We will make rose pens, wallets,

pencil bags, and other fun crafts – all created with duct tape! This camp will be a blast for both boys and

girls.

Dynamic Earth: Fossils, Rocks and Minerals – Investigate what fossils, rocks and minerals can reveal

about our planet Earth. Explore the fossil record, the different rock forms, and the fascinating gemstones

within. Create your own fossil print, sand and polish a piece of amber millions of years old, and crack

open a geode.

Edible Experiments – Experience hands-on fun with interesting experiments, and then eat the finished

product! This will be one interesting and tasty class! **Please be aware that food products are used that

may contain food allergens such as nuts, eggs, milk, wheat and soy.

Everything that Flies and Glides – It’s a bird...It’s a plane...It’s everything that flies and glides! Do you

like making paper airplanes? Would you like to make a hovercraft? We will explore the scientific

principles involved in flight by experimenting with hovercrafts, paper airplanes, balloon rockets, and

more!

Exploring Computers – In this class, students will learn computer literacy skills and how to effectively

navigate the computer as a 21st century learner. Students will be using software and online sites that are

standards-based for content areas such as Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. The activities

are interactive, interesting and highly engaging.

Fins, Claws, Tentacles – Did you know that 95% of the world’s ocean is unexplored? In this class, we will

begin to understand a little more about the creatures that inhabit the ocean. Want to see a shark’s tooth?

Come join us as we go 10,000 leagues under the sea.

FLIGHT Champions – FLIGHT Champions is a high energy class filled with challenges. Team building

games, relays, and mind-blowing competitions are just a few of the activities that await. Students will be

divided into teams and given daily competitions in which new skills are tested and sportsmanship is

emphasized. This class will put you to the test!

Forensic Frenzy – Do mysteries excite you? If you answered ‘yes’ to this question, we have the class for

you. Join us as we solve mysteries with science. Identify mystery chemicals found at a ‘crime scene,’

collect evidence, and draw conclusions. Join us and discover ‘who dunnit!’

Fun-ology – Science Fun with Young Explorers! In this new class, students will participate in a variety of

science experiments, learn about fossils, insects, and volcanoes to name a few. This class promises to be

filled with exploration, arts and crafts, trivia, and games. Let your little explorer experience “hands on

learning” with Fun-ology.

CCS Olympics – The gold is within your reach! We will be choosing countries, making flags, and playing a

variety of individual and team activities. There will be medals and prizes for sportsmanship and

teamwork.

Game Station – This class will focus on math. Students will learn and play multiple games focusing on

math and reading with the goal of building their academic foundations. Students will spend time on math

games with partners or small groups with direct teacher instruction taking place in small groups.

Gardening Group – Are you interested in learning all about planting? We will prepare indoor and

outdoor gardens, tend to the plants, water, and observe. We will also make fun garden art and bird

feeders!

Grandma’s Kitchen – Nothing beats going to Grandma’s place! In this class, we will teach you how to

make biscuits from scratch, the best mac and cheese, and don’t forget about the cookies! Welcome to

Grandma’s Kitchen. **Please be aware that food products are used that may contain food allergens such

as nuts, eggs, milk, wheat and soy.

I Heart Art - Do you like expressing yourself with art? Do you enjoy drawing? Do you like to paint? Then

this class is for you! Use your imagination as you get creative and have fun creating art. You will

experiment with clay, paint, paper and paper maché. Please bring a smock to the first class.

Indoor Games – On your mark, get set, go!! Join us as we play a variety of strategic and active indoor

games making this class fast-paced and SUPER fun!

Kids in the Kitchen – Experience a new adventure – learning to cook! This class will emphasize the fun

and discovery of cooking. Topics will include: kitchen safety, use of equipment and utensils, food

selection, nutrition, food preparation, and reading recipes. Learn to make healthy snacks and mini-meals

for your friends and family. **Please be aware that food products are used that may contain food

allergens such as nuts, eggs, milk, wheat and soy.

K’Nex Bridge Building – Building interest in engineering! Students will build several working bridges

and develop an understanding of why different designs are used and how bridges vary in load strength

and stability. This class is designed to enhance kids’ imaginations through the creative assembly of K’Nex

pieces. In addition to bridges, they will also be used to create buildings, houses, and towers.

Literacy Lounge – Students will study and participate in author and genre studies where they enjoy read

alouds and projects. They will practice comprehension strategies through book talks and crafts in the

style of the authors and illustrators.

Little Magicians – Children love magic and they love to learn. What could be more natural than to have

both? Your child will amaze you with the basic magic tricks they learn!

Microwave Magic – Join us for this retro-fun class where we’ll discuss the advantages and disadvantages

of microwave cooking – plus we’ll make many dishes you can whip up with your microwave during these

hot summer days!

Minecraft – Delve into the exciting 3D computer game of Minecraft that teaches creative thinking; a game

where you dig (Mine) and build (craft) 3D blocks within varying terrains and habitats. Several levels of

difficulty and the ability to challenge an opponent makes this a game that appeals to all ages!

Minute to Win It – Compete in this fast-paced fun game with the silliest competitions ever! Will you be

the next Minute to Win It champion?

Move It! – Play games and engage in fun physical activities and sports that will strengthen and develop

your body. Let’s get moving!

Oceania – Marine biologists, meet me here! Let’s take a dive into the world’s oceans and explore what

they have to offer. Learn about dolphins and how they communicate. Do jellyfish have a brain...or even a

heart? If the creatures of the ocean excite you, this class will not disappoint. Join us as we take a trip into

Oceania.

Passport to Adventure – Grab your passport and join us for a journey! We will explore the languages,

art, food, and traditions to many exciting places! Come join us as we journey to the Eiffel Tower, Leaning

Tower of Pisa, and many other exotic places! **Please be aware that food products are used that may

PE Super Games – Have fun playing a mix of indoor and outdoor games like Medic, Eliminator, and

Capture the Flag. Some games you might already know and love; some will be new to you, but all of them

will be SUPER!

Play-Doh Creations – Open-ended imaginative play for children in grades K-3 with Play-Doh. Kids can

mold, shape, cut and more while socializing with children in the same age group. Children can use

accessories and molds to create meals, make faces, decorate a party cake or create jungle friends! Roll,

pat or press a body shape using Play-Doh and let the fun begin as you add eyes, ears, a nose and mouth.

Or maybe it’s all ears, or half animal, half human. Perhaps it’s a googly-eyed alien! The possibilities are

endless...come have fun!

Reading Connection – Do you need a boost in reading? Increase your fluency and comprehension with

phonics review through fun games and activities in a relaxed, enjoyable environment!

Robotics – Explore the exciting world of robotics and how they are used in the world today. Students will

learn the basics of building a robot to perform simple tasks. They will learn about sensors used to make

the robots aware of their environment and learn how to use a computer to program the robot to perform

tasks.

STEAM Kids – STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) In STEAM Kids, we will have a

blast questioning like scientists, designing like technologists, building like engineers, creating like artists,

thinking like mathematicians, and playing like kids. Come join us as we explore, concoct, and experiment.

STEM Class – Join us this summer as we engage in real world, hands on investigations! STEM

incorporates science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Students will learn to work as team

members while planning investigations, conducting experiments and analyzing data. If building fast roller

coasters and shelters to withstand natural disasters sounds fun, then STEM class is the place to be!

Wacky Waffles – This camp will bring you into the new age of waffle ironing. Waffle omelets, waffle

cinnamon rolls, waffle pizza, oh my! Come and discover what this simple kitchen appliance can do for

Worship Team – If you have a heart for worship, come be a part of the on-stage worship team! You’ll

learn the words and motions to several different worship songs and share them on stage during Chapel

Playground Rules

2019 Playground Rules: These rules have been developed to help ensure the safety of the students at CCS. We are

trying to instill self-discipline and responsibility in them by making them accountable for their actions. These rules

may not include everything that could come up relative to student safety or conduct, so they should not be

interpreted in that way. Playground staff and teachers will make the final decision regarding any questionable

activities not mentioned in this document. These playground rules apply to ALL recess times and Extended Care

hours.

1. Playground opens to students at 7:45am.

2. Students need to use self-control while playing, and line up immediately when the whistle is blown by a

teacher/supervisor.

3. Everyone is expected to show courtesy and respect to others and their property at all times. Students need

to refer to others by the name they wish to be called and be honest and trustworthy.

4. Harassment of any type (bullying, threatening, name-calling, derogatory comments, unnecessary or

offensive touching) will not be tolerated. Anyone who exhibits these behaviors should be reported to an

adult and disciplined per school policy.

5. Any toy brought from home is the student’s responsibility. If it creates a problem, the toy will be put away or

held by the teacher until the end of the day. Any type of toy that would be dangerous in our playground

area will be confiscated. Toys or items that are not appropriate for our playground include, but are not limited

to: dolls of any kind, toys with “evil” powers, any type of play or real weapon, nail polish and make-up (K-5),

all electronic devices, bats or hardballs.

6. Electronic Equipment: Cell phones must remain off and unseen both during the school day and after school.

All electronic gaming and music devices are to be left at home so that they are not lost, damaged, or

become an unnecessary distraction for other students. If a student needs to contact a parent he/she must

get permission from an extended care staff person. Students may only use phones to contact parents at the

end of the school day.

7. Any type of aggressive activity or game involving fighting, hitting, pushing, tackling, wrestling, kicking others,

tripping, war-type games or play-fighting, throwing balls or objects at others will not be allowed (with the

exception of play within a game). Students must use a foam ball when playing any form of ball tag or dodge

ball. Ball tag is not permitted on the climbing equipment.

8. Games such as soccer, kickball, basketball, etc. are to be played according to the traditional rules of that

particular game. Running through or disrupting games are not allowed. Games must not be played with

unnecessary roughness or tackling. All students will treat one another fairly and appropriately and will accept

the decisions of the supervisors.

9. Jumping off of or playing tag on the equipment is not permitted. Students should not play tag under the

ramada. Students may not push or pull others while on equipment. Students may not stand on, run across,

or jump off the tables.

10. Ga-Ga Ball Pit:

Players hit the ball with their hands only and may not carry or throw the ball - it must be hit with open hand

or fist.

Any player who is touched by the ball either directly or by a rebound off the wall is “out”, then must exit

the pit.

Do not sit on or hop over the wall. Do not sit or lay down in the Ga-Ga Pit.

11. Swings:

Running through or playing near moving swings is not permitted.

Only one person is allowed on a swing at a time, and he or she must be properly seated.

Jumping off swings and swinging side to side is not allowed.

Do not twist the swing chains.

Do not “save” swings for friends.

No “cherry drops” or “underdogs” or hanging from swing chains.

12. Red Jungle Gym:

Do not hang upside down on the two highest horizontal bars.

Do not sit for long periods of time on top of the ladder.

Student’s hands and feet are to be on the fireman’s pole while sliding down.

No standing or walking on top of bars.

13. Wallcano:

Only 4 students may be on the top platform at one time.

Students may not jump off the top or sides of the Wallcano.

14. Wilderness Hideout:

No sitting on or jumping off of the top log tunnel.

No sitting on or jumping off of the taller light green bars (nearest to the climbing wall).

15. No one is allowed outside the fenced area without permission. If a ball goes over a fence, one child may

retrieve the ball with the teacher’s permission and observation. Students may not climb or jump over fences.

16. Students are to acquire permission to leave the playground to use the bathroom. They will be sent in pairs of

the same gender. Staff member will ensure students return in adequate time.

17. No glass containers are to be brought to school.

18. Animals may not be brought to the school playground.

19. Any student who is eating within the playground area must be seated (to avoid choking) at a picnic table

and must properly dispose of any trash. All middle school students need to eat their lunches at a table,

whether that is in the lunchroom, on the food court, or on the playground.

20. The ramada misters may be turned on by CCS personnel only.

21. Be cautious near the water fountain; check for bees, and do not leave the water fountain running. Water

fights or digging near the water fountain are not permitted.

CCS Summer School Program

Discipline Agreement - 2019

Discipline expectations during the summer at CCS mirror our student expectations throughout

the regular school year. The purposes of discipline at CCS are as follows:

1. To develop and encourage Christian character and behavior patterns.

2. To maintain an optimum learning environment.

3. To provide safety for all students.

4. To enforce CCS rules for the good of the whole student body.

5. To provide enforcement of both governmental and moral laws.

Unacceptable behavior during our summer program will be handled on two levels.

Level 1: These offenses would include normal classroom type problems which will be handled

by the teacher or supervisor of the class. These would include problems such as excessive

talking, disobeying directions, and any other action that would disturb the ability of the

teacher to instruct or other students to learn and enjoy the class. Teachers will have the

discretion to respond to these discipline cases in ways that match the child’s maturity level,

including time out, withdrawal of privileges, etc.

Level 2: These offenses would include more serious behavior problems and/or a continuation

of Level 1 offenses after warnings and consequences. This could include attitude problems

such as a lack of respect for authority, others, and/or property, fighting, profanity, talking

back, verbally abusing others, bullying, and lack of self control that is harmful to the classroom

environment and/or to other students. Level 2 offenses will be handled by the FLIGHT Director

and/or CCS Principal. Parents will be contacted for Level 2 offenses and consequences will

be determined as specified below.

Level 2 Consequences:

First offense: Student removed from the environment and a call made to parents.

Second offense: Parent meeting with FLIGHT Director and/or CCS Principal; 1 day

suspension from the program.

Third offense: Parent meeting with FLIGHT Director and/or CCS Principal; the student

must withdraw from the program.

Zero Tolerance Policy: Behaviors that will not be tolerated in our Summer Program are as

follows: threatening or severely endangering another’s safety, property damage, possession

of illegal weapons or substances, leaving the school grounds without permission, bullying,

repeated disobedience or defiance of school rules or authorities. These offenses will be

handled by the FLIGHT Director and/or CCS Principal, and consequences will result in the

immediate withdrawal from our summer program.
