Obamacare Architect:Optimal Time to Die:

age 75 Ezekiel Emanuel, Rahm’s brother, was one of the chief architects of ObamaCare. Apparently Ezekiel has decided that 75 years of age is the optimal age for people to die. After 75, “ people who live longer than that risk struggling through a less-than-perfect existence” and uses his own father as an example.

Read Emmanuel’s article “Why I Hope to Die at 75” in The Atlantic here: http://www.theatlantic.com/-

There is also a good op-ed piece on this article on Herman Cain’s website. You can access it here: http://www.caintv.com/obamacare-architect-ezekiel-em

Women in Politics2 New Books

New Yorker (and Democrat) Kirsten Gillibrand, best known for replacing Hillary Clinton in the US Senate, has written a memoir – O the Sidelines: Raise Your Voice, Change the World. The book follows the life of a mother working in a man’s world. The Associated Press review says it “sometimes feels like a campaign commercial” but continues to say that the book will appeal to working mothers, sometimes moving them to tears.

Wendy Davis, Democrat Texas gubernatorial candidate, gained fame by wearing pink sneakers in an abortion rights libuster. Her memoir, Forgetting to Be Afraid, is described by AP as “more compelling” than Gillibrand’s. Davis describes her tough childhood with an itinerant family, falling more into poverty when her father left the family, and her subsequent struggle to get an education. She also reveals that she terminated 2 pregnancies. Davis’s book, according to AP, will appeal to those who have struggled with poverty.

(But: Uh oh, Wendy Davis’ life story not what it seems ...To summarize... her second husband paid her way through her last two years of college and all of Harvard Law School, he raised their two daughters for whom she didn’t even ght for custody. She left her husband the day after he made her last student loan payment.) http://www.hrwf-ca.org/2014/01/davis-ex-hus-band-saw-it-comig-and-so.html

Greetings, Everyone:

President’sMessage

What an amazing time we had visiting with our slate of Republican state and federal candidates at Baywood on September 6! If you were able to attend the luncheon, you know what a uniquely qualied group they are. They are familiar with the world of politics and know the world of business, a rare combination when compared to those who currently “serve” in government. When candidates know that they are running to do what’s good for the people, they seem to have a dierent demeanor. I, for one, found our candidates down to earth, highly approachable, and creative problem solvers. Our current Northwest Region Director, Elissa Wadleigh, is to be commended for her work in “gathering the troops” and orchestrating the event. In fact, she has also developed a DVD of the debate between Governor Brown and our own Neel Kashkari for us to use in gatherings in our homes to share the dierences between the two candidates. If you would like a copy to share with friends, please let me know as soon as possible. We realize we won’t win every contest, but we will make some inroads. Many people are fed up with the status quo. It’s our job, therefore, to inform and encourage both the conservative and the crossover voter that it’s time to pick up the pen and vote for the kind of change that will count for people and the state in general. By the way, a big “thank you” to all of you who have volunteered to make a dierence this election. I will be calling you shortly to see who will be walking and who will be calling for state and local candidates so we can really help to make a dierence. We want to be part of the solution and not the problem. On another note, we have an exciting event on the horizon! Our annual auction dinner will be held on Sunday, October 12, at 445 Herrick Road, starting at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails, dinner at 6:00. The cost of a ticket is $50 per person. You may certainly opt to purchase an entire table for you and your friends, if you like. By the time you receive this, the event will be on us, so please call immediately for your reservations and we will work to accommodate you. John Fund, noted commentator and author, will be our featured guest speaker and he has just written book exposing Eric Holder called Obama’s Enforcer. Books may be purchased for $30 at our dinner and John will be happy to sign them for you. We will have many great Silent and Live Auction items on which you may bid. A great time will be had by all! Let’s support our Humboldt County GOP!!!!!This month we are privileged to have Senator Doug LaMalfa as our guest speaker for October 16. Those of you who are acquainted with our Senator to the east of us know what a strong, dynamic speaker and leader he is. Come ready to hear the truth from a heart of passion for what is right and what we can do to help make it happen for all of us.

Prop 1 Water Bond. Funding for Water Quality, Supply, Treatment, Storage Projects: Yes

■ Republicans in the legislature fought hard to bring down the cost of this bond while increasing the amount of money allocated for surface storage projects to $2.7 billion. ■ The bond is not perfect, and in fact still has a good amount of money allocated for some environmental “pet projects.” But Republicans must continue to ght for surface storage projects to be completed with this new bond. Living in a Democrat super majority state, we aren't going to have the "perfect water bond" come out of Sacramento. But this bond is a step in the right direction. If this bond does not pass and legislators must go back to the drawing board, we fear a worse bond will be brought back to the people of California, without the critical water storage the Republicans fought so hard to have included in this bond. ■ Language for dam removal projects were removed from this bond and instead money will be allocated to fund two dam and reservoir projects, one in Colusa County and one in Fresno County. The Fresno County site, Temper-ance Flats, is especially important because our Central Valley Farmers have been relying so heavily on wells and groundwater that now that infrastruc-ture is unstable. Our farmers need more surface storage to keep California growing. ■ Again, it is important to note that this bond is not perfect and Republi-cans cannot rest on their laurels once it is passed. But we believe this is why it is so important to work hard to get Republicans elected to the legislature this cycle. The more Republicans we have protecting our interests in the Capitol, the better! __________________

Prop 2 State Budget. Budget Stabilization Account: Yes■ Another measure that Republicans worked hard to get to the ballot. Republicans have been working towards a rainy day fund for years. Every single Republican legislator in both the Senate and the Assembly voted in support of this proposition. ■ Sets aside state revenues in a fund that cannot be used to further state spending in times of excess.■ Finally works to pay down state debt payments. ■ Another caveat though, this bill must have Republican oversight once passed to make sure the fund is safe from greedy Democrat spending even after it is passed. __________________

Prop 45 Healthcare Insurance Rate Changes. No■ A very dangerous measure that would place all insurance rate power in the hands of one politician, who would also have the decision making ability for your treatment options.■ Would create yet another costly state bureaucracy that would be funded by your higher healthcare costs.■ Sponsored by special interest lawyers who included a hidden provision allowing them to charge up to $675/hour and make tens of millions in fees o costly health care lawsuits.

__________________

Prop 46 Drug and Alcohol Testing of Doctors. No■ It is no secret this measure was drafted by trial lawyers who stand to make millions with an increase on the “emotional pain and suering” cap for medical negligence lawsuits.

■ This measure forces doctors and pharmacists to use a massive statewide database lled with Californians’ personal medical prescription information. A mandate government will nd impossible to implement, and a database with no increased security standards to protect your personal prescription information from hacking and theft – none.■ If California’s medical liability cap goes up, you could also lose your trusted doctor. It’s true. Many doctors will be forced to leave California to practice in states where medical liability insurance is more aordable.■ A recent study found that this initiative will increase health care costs by $9.9 billion annually – or more than $1,000/year in higher health costs for a family of four■ It is deceptive. The drug testing of doctors portion of this measure was only added as an illusion to the real goal of this prop- to raise the cap on emotional pain and suering.

Prop 47 Criminal Sentences. Misdemeanor Penalties: No■ Felons with prior convictions for armed robbery, kidnapping, car jacking, child abuse, residential burglary, arson, assault with a deadly weapon, and many other serious crimes are still eligible for early release under this prop.■ Judges must rule on a criminal’s early release based only on the most recent felony. Prior felony convictions will not aect a judge’s ruling except in extraordinary circumstances. This means that serious, violent felons will be released and there is little a judge can do about it.■ Under current law, stealing a gun is a felony, period. Prop 47 would redene grand theft in such a way that theft of a rearm could only be considered a felony if the value of the gun is greater than $950. Almost all handguns (which are the most stolen kind of rearm) retail for well below $950. People don’t steal guns just so they can add to their gun collection. They steal guns to commit another crime. People stealing guns are protected under Proposition 47.■ Proposition 47 will reduce the penalty for possession of drugs used to facilitate date-rape to a simple misdemeanor. No matter how many times the suspected sexual predator has been charged with possession of date-rape drugs, it will only be a misdemeanor, and the judge will be forced to sentence them as if it were their very rst time in court.

Prop 48 Referendum to Overturn Indian Gaming Compacts: Neutral or No Position

■ There are pros and cons to this proposition. That’s why the CFRW has taken a neutral position. It is our hope that the Republican Women research this prop and decide how this will eect them and the future of California. ■ It will create thousands of jobs in a depressed economic area. Madera County is in desperate need of jobs. ■ But it creates a precedence whereby Indians can game outside of their tribal land. This is currently unprecedented. The current Indian Gaming Pact with our state allows tribes to only game on their tribal land. This referen-dum would allow tribes to petition to the government to game (build casinos) outside of their tribal land.
