Hymn: TiS 156

1. Morning has broken

like the first morning;

blackbird has spoken

like the first bird.

Praise for the singing,

praise for the morning,

praise for them, springing

fresh from the word.

2. Sweet the rain’s new fall

sunlit from heaven,

like the first dewfall

on the first grass.

Praise for the sweetness

of the wet garden,

sprung from completeness

where his feet pass.

3. Mine is the sunlight;

mine is the morning

born of the one light

Eden saw play.

Praise with elation,

praise every morning,

God’s recreation

of the new day.

Eleanor Farjeon

1881–1965

Greeting: The Lord be with you.

AND ALSO WITH YOU. (see Ruth 2:4)

Prayer of Preparation:

As we gather as God's people let us pray together:

God of love and peace, you know what we think and feel.

Touch our hearts that our thoughts and actions may be good so that we

may love you and honour you, through Jesus Christ our Lord, AMEN.

The Summary of the Commandments:

‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the

Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all

your mind, and with all your strength.’ Jesus said: ‘This is the great and

first commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your

neighbour as yourself.’

Kyrie eleison (Dudman)

The Confession

Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's

forgiveness.

God of mercy and grace,

we have sometimes thought wrong things,

and done wrong things and

we have not always loved each other as we should.

We are sorry.

Forgive us and help us to love and obey you ,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Absolution {Celebrant}

Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn

to him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your

sins, strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal

life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Day

Righteous God, you confound the world’s wisdom by giving your blessing

to the lowly and pure in heart: give us such a hunger and thirst for justice

and perseverance in striving for peace, that in our words and deeds the

world may see the promise of your kingdom, which has been revealed in

Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the

Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD Readings from 'New Revised Standard Version' (NRSV)

First Reading: 1 Corinthians 13:4-13 (CEV) 4

Love is kind and patient, never jealous, boastful, proud, or 5

rude.

Love isn’t selfish or quick tempered.

It doesn’t keep a record of wrongs that others do. 6

Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil. 7

Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting. 8

Love never fails!

Everyone who prophesies will stop, and unknown languages will no

longer be spoken. All that we know will be forgotten. 11

When we were children, we thought and reasoned as children do.

But when we grew up, we quit our childish ways. 12

Now all we can see of God is like a cloudy picture in a mirror.

Later we will see him face to face. We don’t know everything, but then

we will, just as God completely understands us. 13

For now there are faith, hope, and love.

But of these three, the greatest is love.

Response: Hear the word of the Lord,

THANKS BE TO GOD

Page 8: HTK Pew Sheet, February 3, 2013, 10am

Psalm 71.1-6 1 To you, Lord, have I come for shelter:

let me never be put to shame. 2 In your righteousness rescue and deliver me:

incline your ear to me and save me. 3 Be for me a rock of refuge, a fortress to defend me:

for you are my high rock, and my stronghold. 4 Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked:

from the grasp of the pitiless and unjust. 5 For you, Lord, are my hope:

you are my confidence, O God, from my youth upward. 6 On you have I leaned since my birth:

you are he that brought me out of my mother’s womb, and my praise is of

you continually.

WE STAND FOR THE READING OF THE HOLY GOSPEL AS A SIGN OF RESPECT AS WE GREET

OUR LORD WHO IS PRESENT IN HIS HOLY WORD.

The Lord be with you

AND ALSO WITH YOU

The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Luke chapter 4

beginning at the 21st

verse.

GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

21 Jesus said to them, “What you have just heard me read has come true

today.” 22

All the people started talking about Jesus and were amazed at the

wonderful things he said. They kept on asking, “Isn’t he Joseph’s son?” 23

Jesus answered:

You will certainly want to tell me this saying, “Doctor, first make yourself

well.” You will tell me to do the same things here in my own hometown

that you heard I did in Capernaum. 24

But you can be sure that no

prophets are liked by the people of their own hometown.

Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord

PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Offertory Hymn: TiS 135

All things bright and beautiful,

all creatures great and small,

all things wise and wonderful —

the Lord God made them all.

1. The wildflowers in their beauty,

the mountain ranges tall,

the billabongs and rivers,

and friendly birds that call,

All things bright and beautiful ...

2. The cold wind in the winter,

the bright, life-giving sun,

the ripe fruits in the garden —

he made them every one.

All things bright and beautiful ...

3. The coloured walls of gorges,

the gum trees green and tall,

the rocks, and pools, and palm trees,

the sparkling waterfall,

All things bright and beautiful ...

4. The many-coloured corals,

the creatures of the sea,

of bushland, field or desert,

on farms, or roaming free,

All things bright and beautiful ...

5. He gave us eyes to see them,

and lips that we might tell

how great is God Almighty

who has made all things well.

All things bright and beautiful ...

Or you may choose to receive the wafer only (Communion in one kind).

Final Hymn: TiS 242 vv 1, 2 and 5

1. I danced in the morning when the world was begun,

and I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun;

and I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth,

at Bethlehem I had my birth:

Dance then, wherever you may be;

I am the Lord of the dance, said he;

and I’ll lead you all where ever you may be,

and I’ll lead you all in the dance, said he.

2. I danced for the scribe and the pharisee,

but they would not dance and they wouldn’t follow me.

I danced for the fishermen, for James and John,

they came with me and the dance went on:

3. They cut me down and I leap up high,

I am the life that’ll never, never die;

I’ll live in you as you live in me:

I am the Lord of the dance, said he:

Sydney Carter

1915–2004 alt.
