HYBRID-PHOTOVOLTAIC/THERMAL SOLAROOF™ FOR SWIMMING POOL

HEATINGPhotovoltaic electric solar panels can also be built into the roof in the SOLAROOF configuration to provide an aesthetic appearance, save re-roofing costs, and provide a 50 year roof while eliminating the possibility of leaks at the mounting points applicable to standard, rack-mounted PV panel installations. The construction of PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLAROOF™ is shown in Figure 1, and is lower cost than conventional solar panel installations, since mounting brackets for these panels are eliminated.

This hybrid photovoltaic + solar thermal configuration is shown in Figure 1, in which an EPDM rubber tubing mat (Figure 2) is pressed to the rear surface of the photovoltaic panel glass. The measured typical increase in the temperature of a PV panel rear surface is more than 50°F above the outside ambient temperature for summer solar insolation. When swimming pool water at ,75°F is pumped through this mat, transferring its collected thermal energy to the swimming pool water, thus providing additional solar energy harvesting, this further reduces the payback period. This reduces the PV panel temperature to less than its rated temperature at 25°C (77°F) thus improving the electrical output efficiency relative to that of convention rack mounted PV panel installations.

In view of the above discussion, it can be concluded that the incorporation of this hybrid solar system generates a significant improvement in the total energy output of a conventional PV panel system, and significantly reduces its payback period.

TYPICAL HYBRID SYSTEM PRICE QUOTATION

TOTAL INSTALLED PRICE: $33,950.00

TERMS: FOR CASH PRICE: 50% deposit with order, balance due upon completion of the installation

FOR 100% FINANCING Please call:  Mr. Robert Baylis Loan Advisor 401-248-7358 or mailto:[email protected]

DESCRIPTION

24, 330 WATT SUNPREME PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS, (13 FT. X 39 FT. ARRAY) WITH EPDM RUBBER TUBE MATS PRESSED AGAINST THE REAR OF PANELS, FLUSH MOUNTED TO SOUTH ROOF.  AS IS SHOWN IN THE ATTACHED DRAWING, A REFLECTIVE FOIL IS MOUNTED BETWEEN THE RUBBER TUBE MATS AND THE REAR GLASS OF THE PV PANEL.  THIS INCREASES THE OUTPUT OF EACH PANEL TO 380 WATTS. TOTAL 24 PANEL ARRAY OUTPUT AT NOON = 9.12 KILOWATTS

AS IS SHOWN IN FIGURE 3, THE RUBBER TUBE MAT MANIFOLDS ARE CONNECTED TO THE EXISTING SWIMMING POOL PUMP AND FILTER, TEED OFF FROM THE PVC PIPING CONNECTING TO THE POOL.

THE SYSTEM IS WARRANTED TO PREVENT SOLAR PANEL TEMPERATURES FROM EXCEEDING 120°F, AS LONG AS THE SWIMMING POOL PUMP IS OPERATIVE.

NO CASH DOWN FINANCING FOR SOLAROOFTM

The following summarizes the no cash down financing of our SOLAROOFTM Hybrid PV/solar thermal systems for either PV + domestic hot water heating or PV + solar swimming pool heating. This financing is available from Admiral Bank. Please contact Mr. Robert Baylis Loan Advisor 401-248-7358 or mailto:[email protected]

In both cases, the 30% Federal income tax rebate applies.

Please also note that for a $33,950- loan for which your net cost after the Federal tax rebate is only $23,765-, you will be paying down the loan for the remainder of 2014 at an interest rate applicable to a principal of $23,765-, but when you get your $10,185- rebate in April 2015, you can use it to pay down the principal to $23,765-.

With the 3.5 year payback shown in the following calculation, you should have positive cash flow for a 120 month loan immediately after the installation!

TOTAL INSTALLED PRICE:   $33,950-

NET COST AFTER 30% FED INCOME TAX SOLAR REBATE   (CONNECTICUT)                            $23,765.00

NET COST IN NY STATE, AFTER 30% FED INCOME TAX SOLAR REBATE AND NY STATE 25% REBATE                         $17,823.75

ELECTRICAL ENERGY COST SAVINGS FOR AN INSTALLATION USING 24, 380 WATT SOLAR PANELS

(9.12 KWATTS):

1. ELECTRICAL POWER COLLECTION AT NOON WITH 1,000 WATT/m2 SOLAR IRRADIANCE = 9.12 KWATTS

= 9,12 KWATT-HR X 6 EFFECTIVE HOURS/DAY

= 54.7 KWATT-HRS/SUNNY DAY X $0.25/KWATT-HR*. = $13.68 PER SUNNY DAY X 200 SUNNY DAYS PER YEAR IN CT.

= $2,736/YEAR IN ELECTRICITY COST SAVINGS.

2. THERMAL ENERGY COST SAVINGS (NOT APPLICABLE IN CONVENTIONAL RACK MOUNTED PHOTOVOLTAIC-ONLY PANEL INSTALLATION)

THE TOTAL AREA OF THE 24 PANEL ARRAY IS 491 FT2. THE THERMAL ENERGY FROM THE SUN IMPINGING ON THIS AREA AT NOON = 300 BTU/FT2/HOUR AT NOON X 491 FT2 X 6 HOURS/DAY = 883,800 BTU/SUNNY DAY. SINCE 20 % OF THIS ENERGY IS DRAWN OFF IN ELECTRICITY REDUCING YOUR ELECTRICAL WATT-HOUR METER READING, THE NET ELECTRICAL ENERGY CONSERVATIVELY EQUIVALENT TO THIS THERMAL ENERGY

= 70% X 883,800 = 618,660 BTU/SUNNY DAY. THIS IS EQUIVALENT TO 6.2 GALLONS OF PROPANE FOR A CONVENTIONAL POOL HEATER PER SUNNY DAY. AT $4.00/GALLON FOR PROPANE, THIS AMOUNTS TO A SAVING OF $24.80 PER SUNNY DAY, $2,976/YEAR FOR 120 SUNNY DAYS DURING THE SWIMMING POOL SEASON.

THEREFORE, THE TOTAL YEARLY SAVINGS EXPECTED FOR THIS INSTALLATION IS:

ELECTRICAL COST SAVINGS + THERMAL COST SAVINGS

= $2,736 + $2,976 = $5,712-/YEAR

THE RESULTING NET RETURN ON INVESTMENT IS GIVEN BY:

NET COST OF INSTALLATION/ENERGY SAVINGS PER YEAR

= $17,824/$5,712/YEAR = 32% ROI PER YEAR,

OR 3.12 YEAR PAYBACK!

In view of the above discussion, we can conservatively predict that with the cost savings in heating your swimming pool, the payback of the net investment will occur in less than 4 years, or positive cash flow immediately after the installation, even if the entire investment is financed with a 120 month loan from Admirals bank.
