• Bharti Foundation

– Bharti Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Bharti Group Companies.

– The Foundation aims to help underprivileged children and young people of our country realize their potential.

• Satya Bharti School Program

– The Satya Bharti School Program is the flagship program of Bharti Foundation.

– It aims to deliver free quality education to underprivileged children, with special focus on the girl child across rural India.

– The program goal is to establish 500 Primary and 50 Senior Schools reaching out to over 200,000 students

– The promise of this large scale program, through its operation, is to create a replicable, scalable and holistic model of quality education in rural India

– Present Operational Status:

• Number of Schools Operational: 256

• States of Operation: Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh & Tamil Nadu

• Number of Students Enrolled: Over 38,000

• Geographical Location:

– Banthla is situated approx. 15 km from NH-8 and District office of Bharti Foundation.

– The nearest Sr. Sec. School is in village Dosod which is approx. 4-5 km. – There is no public transportation facility so that people have to walk or travel

by own conveyance from the main bus station Majri ,which is approx. 9 km from the village.

– The Nearest Health Centre is Dosod which is approx. 4-5 km. – The nearest Police station is Behror which is approx. 14 km form the village.– The nearest market is Majri which is approx. 4-5 km form the village– Drinking water facility provided by government and constructed water supply

tank, apart from this Hand pumps and bore wells are other source of water.– The main occupation of villagers are Mining and agriculture. – Most of houses are pucca.

•About the Community

Cultural Background:

– The villagers belongs to Hindu Community .– Dominant cast is Rajuput. – They followed the all Hindu rituals and festivals– The dressing style of community is long white Kurta & Dhoti / Pant & Shirt, for

men and women dressing style is Ghagra & Odhni.– It’s a mix culture of Rajasthan & Hariyana because Hariyana is very close to this

location. – They are the followers of all Hindu God & Goddess.– They prefer to have vegetarian & Non vegetarian food but most of the people are

vegetarian.– The castism is very high in community. – Village women always in long veil and it’s a part of their culture.

• There are many problems in the village but we felt that Consuming Tobacco is one of the major problem among Youth & Older People.

We ‘Imagined’:

Our kids have realised that a society must be freed of tobacco. Cigarette and Bidi should banned in public places. But it can't be possible unless the society will realise its impact. We will show them the real mirror of Tobacco through Street play and signature campaign.

• Community people appreciated the Satya Bahrti School children initiative and village sarpanch has given Appreciation Letter to Satya Bahrti Bharti School Banthala.

• 105 villagers participated in Signature campaign and took the oath that they will quit the habit of Chewing Tobacco and will not consume tobacco in any other form.

Impact on Community:

• The team members of Satya Bharti feel the sense of pride to be a part of the campaign and gained the self confidence to deal with such social problems.

• Children felt proud to educate their elders and near & dear and learnt that to keep away them selves from tobacco.

Experience of Community Members & Teachers:

• The teachers realise that they have done something special for villager which is totally different from their daily class room teaching & feel pride to make a difference in the life of community people.

• “ Aaj Satya Bharti School Nareda Khurd ke bacho ne Nasah Mukt / Tambaku ke sevan ke virudh rally Nikali Jis se Hum Logo ko achi siksha mile aur Aaj se hune Tambaku ka sevan chod diya”.

• We will conduct a counseling session for community youth, so that they can understand the harms of using tobacco.

• Spread awareness in community people and in Parents Teacher

Meetings and motivate them to stop use of tobacco.

• To make villagers aware about the danger of using tobacco.
