Welcome

Hello and welcome to the latest SWGR newsletter. In this edition, we take a look at some of the highlights of what has been an exciting year in for SWGR and what the company is looking forward to in 2018.

In 2017, we celebrated the opening of our brand-new specialist industrial supplies showroom and store, SWGR Industrial Supplies in Glasgow, which will be the area’s leading one-stop supplies facility for businesses in the city, and allows clients to take a first-hand look at our workwear, PPE and accessories.

The opening has been followed by the launch of our online store, which features a full range of more than 30,000 products available to customers browse at work or at home.

We also celebrated the launch of a dedicated facility for our training company, Scot-Train, part of SWGR Training Services, which puts us in a unique position to provide tailored courses to meet the specific needs of our clients nationwide.

As the company continues to build up its physical and digital presence, the strength of our personnel increases alongside it as our ambitious regional operations growth strategy continues.

We made several strategic appointments in 2017, including Harry Marshall, our new head of commercial and business development, and the recent addition of new regional sales manager Daniel Lovett-Horn, who will be responsible for developing our service offering across England, from his base in Manchester.

It all bodes well for an ambitious year ahead for the company, as we aim to strengthen our position in the marketplace as the leading provider of specialist services for the industries we operate in.

Since its origins in manpower provision for the oil and gas industry, SWGR has made great strides to reach its current position as a provider of multidisciplinary services during a period of unprecedented growth for the rail industry.

We will continue to work together, delivering safely and well to achieve our long-term goal of becoming the go-to name for complete rail industry resourcing.

Long may it continue as 2018 gets under way.

Rebrand

SWGR training facility putting students on course for successThe next generation of rail industry leaders are already walking out of the doors at SWGR’s dedicated training facility.

Scot-Train, part of SWGR Training Services, opened its bespoke training centre in earlier this year in Glasgow to provide a one-stop shop for all rail courses.

The state-of-the-art facility has a range of modern training and meeting rooms stocked with top-of-the-range training equipment. Its e-learning suite and training track allow the company to offer some of the UK’s highest quality training in rail, construction and welding.

It was named as an approved Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) training centre in December 2016, allowing the facility to offer a range of nationally recognised qualifications, including rail-specific safety qualifications.

Sandy Murray, general manager at Scot-Train, said: “The training centre is a wonderful resource for businesses and individuals in the industry requiring specialist training services.

“Our meeting and conference rooms are fitted with the latest projector and smartboard technology and are ideal for meetings and presentations, and our state-of-the-art IT suite is perfect for online training and interactive events.

“We can tailor courses to specifically meet the client’s requirements. It really is a one-stop facility for rail, construction, welding and occupation health courses.”

The facility in Petershill Road is close to both the city centre and Barnhill railway station and has onsite car parking.

SWGR Training Services is a fully-licensed provider of Network Rail training and assessment courses, from Personal Track Safety (PTS) training up to Senior Person in Charge of Possession (SPICOP) training.

Marathon effort for CLIC Sargent from SWGR’S David GallagherDavid Gallagher, one of Scot-Train’s trainer/assessors, has been involved in a huge fundraising effort for cancer charity CLIC Sargent. David has pledged to run four marathons in 2018, to raise funds for CLIC Sargent. On top of this, David has already completed the London Marathon, taken part in the Great North Run and completed a skydive at Black Knights in Lancaster in 2017. David has been inspired to raise funds for CLIC Sargent after seeing some of the work they do at a treatment centre while he was in Jacksonville, Florida. He said: “CLIC Sargent supports young people and their families in dealing with the devastating effects cancer causes. Every day ten children are diagnosed with cancer. Treatment usually begins straight away, often taking place miles from home. “When cancer strikes young lives, CLIC Sargent limits the damage cancer causes beyond their health, by providing accommodation, short breaks and financial and emotional support. I’ve teamed up with a group of friends who are running the Great North Run with me and some who are taking part in the sky dive, and I’m going to run four marathons next year; one in London, one in Edinburgh, one in Los Angeles and the other I’m still to be decided on!”

David says that after seeing the effects of cancer on families he wanted to do something to help and make his family proud: “So many people are affected by the dreaded ‘C’ word and we want to do our bit to help raise awareness and money for this brilliant charity.

“We have had an amazing response so far, we raised over £4,000 just from running the

London Marathon and we’re hoping to continue our work at the next events.

I’ve been overwhelmed by the support and want to thank

everyone that has donated for their generosity”

About SWGR

A brief history

SWGR was founded in 1985 as Scotweld Employment Services Limited to supply manpower services to the oil and gas sector.

The company experienced a buoyant period during the infancy of the North Sea oil industry, which was growing rapidly. In the 1990s, construction began to slow and the firm was forced to review its core business strategy and look at new industries and business models.

Scotweld began to develop fresh ways of doing business with new and varied clients without surrendering its core beliefs of safety, quality and value for money.

The company extended into the rapidly growing rail market before moving into the construction and engineering industries.

It has since diversified its offering to accommodate professional people services across six divisions: skilled labour supply, training, occupational health, equipment supply, professional personnel provision and minor works.

SWGR is now a market leader in several specialist areas, with a reputation as a premium business that delivers high-calibre projects and people.

Scotweld/SWGR Highlights

1970s1980s

2000s 2010s

Scotweld was created to service the needs of the Oil Rig Construction markets in the late 70’s and throughout

the 80’s.

As the business grew into our current model of Rail, Mechanical and Civil activities we have encountered some interesting and

challenging adventures and even ‘off the wall’ activities on the way which we believe demonstrates our versatility and attention to detail

and planning which enables us to provide solutions even in the most trying of circumstances.

This was a particularly buoyant period as the North Sea Oil industry was in its infancy and growing

rapidly. In the 90’s the construction phase began to slow and the company was forced to review its core business strategy and to encompass new

industries and business models.

Accordingly Scotweld moved with the times and developed new ways of

doing business with new and varied clients while staying true to its core beliefs of Safety, Quality and value

for money.

We are pleased to present a selection of unusual projects which we have worked on and delivered successfully to our client’s satisfaction.
