Introduction to FOSS

Free Open Source Software (FOSS) is a software that is both free software and open source.

Free refers to the Freedom of COPY and re-use the Software, rather than to price the software.

A bit of History In the years of 1950-60-70s it was normal to provide free software.

1960s change was inevitable cause a that time, a growing software industry.

In 1983, Richard Stallman, announced the GNU project later the Free Software Foundation (FSF) was founded on October 1985. This formed the base for the freedoms of the software users.

The Mozilla Foundation The Mozilla Foundation is a non-profit organization that exists to support and collectively lead the open source Mozilla project.

DOB – 15th July, 2003

A flurry of Firefox beta builds were released first under the name of Phoenix, then Firebird, then eventually Firefox.

Firefox 1.0 was released on November 2004.

In 2008, Firefox reached 20% worldwide market share.

Why Firefox? Well, Firefox Stands for Red Panda

But sadly, No secret reason it has the name Firefox.

Firefox was simply a safe, unique, cool-sounding option for Firebird.

December 2010 Mozilla adopted two red pandas at Knoxville Zoo, Tennessee, To spread awareness about their conservation.
