To keep time and costs down, most libraries do copy cataloguing when they can and create original cataloguing only when they must.

Original cataloguing is very time consuming, detail oriented work

Copy cataloguing has become more prevalent with easier access to catalogue records (i.e. the Internet and online catalogues)
