To start o I chose a color scheme that would work with my upbeat and humorous
message and decided to go with Complementary using the colors blue and orange. I shot a quality photo with good light, mostly sharp focus, and nice composition,
but after receiving a critique I took the photo again, but this time having my model hold still as the rst picture was slightly blurred. For the second photo I used a Nikon Coolpix S810c. I then brought the photo into Photoshop and edited the image for peak
attractiveness using these eect changes: levels, sharpness, saturation, and color balance.
I then designed an 8.5×11 landscape layout that including my photo, some text, and
repeating design elements. I placed my color scheme title, color names, and col -
or swatches into my design. I used the eyedropper tool and adjusted the value of the color to match the colors selected to those within my image. I desaturated and
blurred the background to make my subject’s face “pop” out more and the bring more contrast. I downloaded a free to use brush to create the “party” going on around my
model’s head, and I masked out the areas in front of the head to bring in a 3D element to the design.
Process
The objective of this project was to use a digital camera to take a quality image and adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers to
develop good NDE (non-destructive editing) skills.

I created the logo using the pen tool and image references in Adobe Illustrator. I used the pathnder tool to cut and combine these shapes to create the walrus logo and
the plaid pattern. Once I had created the logo, I opened a new InDesign document to placed my logo’s illustrator le onto. The rst page I created was that of the
business cards. Within InDesign I placed the logo and contact information onto some rectangular shapes to make the cards stand out from the background. I kept the logo and contact information the exact same size as the information on the letterhead
for unity and repetition. I placed the plaid design and positioned the front side to have some continuation of the lines and I enlarged the back for a bit of contrast and
repetition.
The objective of this project was to learn to use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign to create a new logo to t a company or personal image. Then to use the new
logo to design consistent layouts for a business card to create better branding for a company. It was also a good opportunity to practice good typography skills.

For the Letterhead, I positioned the placed logo in the top right corner, and put the
contact information on the top left. I created and placed a continued plaid design from Illustrator to place on the top, along with a smaller version on the bottom. I also
added a large version of the Walrus logo icon as a watermark for unity. I moved the opacity down to about 7%.
Process
The objective of this project was to learn to use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign. Another important outcome of this project was to learn how to properly
combine letterhead and business card designs. It also helped to demonstrate how to keep designs simple, yet visually appealing.

To start o I sketched out about seven dierent logo ideas for this company and then chose three to rene. I took a picture of the sketches and imported it into Illustrator. I
used the pen tool to trace my sketches and rene the edges to make everything crisp and clean. I then took a vote on the three dierent rened logos to determine which
one people like the best. I then took their suggestions and chose the barber shop type logo to make the nal for the company. I rened the logo even more taking into account spacing, typography, and color schemes. I formatted the logo to work well in
black and white, in color, and in white on color.
The objective of this project was to create three completely dierent, original logos to t a company or personal image that will appeal to the audience. I did this through
market research: gathering opinions from other people about which logo appeals most to them. Another objective of this project was to learn to use the basic tools in
Illustrator, and to only use Illustrator to create the logos.

I wrote and formatted the HTML and CSS for this web page entirely using the text editor TextWrangler. I have had previous experience with HTML as well as with
JavaScript , but using CSS was a learning experience for me. Learning how the dierent formats and languages interact with each other will denitely be an advantage in
the work place. To start I created the bare-bones HTML document with what each page was going to say and do. This process was not dicult given my prior knowledge of HTML. However, when it can time to style the pages using CSS I found myself
struggling a little. So, using a pre-coded CSS sheet as a template I learned how to utilize this new language and enjoyed it immensely.
I used the colors from my logo as the basis for the various colors within my web page.
I found these colors by opening Photoshop and using the eyedropper tool. I also used padding around the logo, text, and list items so that they would not be too close to the edge of the web page.
The objective of this project was to acquire a working knowledge of CSS and HTML and how they work together with previously designed content. Another objective was to
practice good writing skills by writing content to describe the process of creating my logo and how it appeals to a target audience.

To start o with the design of my brochure I decided on a central message. From that branched o the other various
aspects of my design. I started o with sketches on a regular piece of paper to kind of get a feel for what I would like my brochure to look, layout wise. I transferred that sketch into Adobe InDesign and computerized my sketch by
placing in ller text and potential images.
To start implementing more permanent design pieces I went in and wrote four separate paragraphs that would be integrated throughout the design. I wrote the text with the design in mind and used proper grammar and punctuation as well as creating headings and subheadings to aid in ow.
I then went into Adobe Illustrator and designed a set of logos for my ction company: ExplOregon. The color
scheme matched the various design elements (boxes) within my brochure. I then placed the logo in my design on the front and back for repetition and to solidify my message a little.
I then went into Adobe Photoshop and edited the images that I was going to place in the design to make them
all match a little more and tie in with the color scheme. I cut out the image of the water wheel and set it as a layer mask and placed it in the InDesign document and wrapped a section of my text around it. I also created the rectangular design elements in Photoshop (and a little in Illustrator) and placed those .psd les in the InDesign
document.
To nish I took all of these various pieces and turned them into one, fully functional design. I printed and trimmed the edges to make the design a full bleed print and scored the edges before folding to prevent poor fold edges.
Process
The objective of this project was to set up and align a two-sided, folded document all while using a newly designed logo, edited photos, and proper layout design. Again,
another objective was to practice good writing skills by writing at least 250 words of original copy in at least three paragraphs, headers, and sub headers.

Firstly, I created some sketches for my layout. I then used my sketches as a guide to
create this arrangement in Adobe InDesign. I reiterated the circles on top and bottom for repetition and unity as well as for diagonal asymmetry. I also emphasized the title for more juxtaposition, and to produce a good central point. To create more variation,
I took the image in to Adobe Photoshop and increased the contrast. I left enough white space for things to remain clean and interesting, and kept my body copy small. I
was given the image, logo, and content for this ier.
Process
The objective of this project was to apply specic design principles and use appropriate typography. Another objective was to incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve the
basic ier layout, and to learn how to keep les organized by creating a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links in InDesign intact.

To start o I collected all of the images needed for this project, making sure to look for high quality, good resolution photos. I then took the images into Photoshop and turned o the visibility of all except that
of Christ, and placed the image of the Savior as the background. I then duplicated the layer to retain the original and not lose quality. I added some contrast to the image as well as some lighting adjustments to
make the Savior stand out to create a more apparent focal point. After adjusting the background to my liking, I made the image of the hands visible again and duplicated the layer twice. With the bottom layer selected I desaturated the image and set the opacity to about 70%.
I then added a layer mask to the upper layer and masked away the parts of the image that were overly
colorful thus allowing for focus to go to the grapes. I then changed the opacity on the color layer to about 80%. To create the text portion of the design I rst sought out to nd a quote or scripture that
would correlate to my photos. After selecting an appropriate quote I copied it into Photoshop and selected an appropriate font. I then added emphasis to important words and made a separate word box for the word blood. To color the word, I selected a color from the image of the hands that would contrast
well with the background to retain readability. I made sure that the text was a reasonable distance from the edge of the page, as well as from other design elements.
To nish, I printed the image to check colors and ow, and made adjustments accordingly. I reprinted and
saved the image to be suitable for Internet use.
The objective of this project was to use specic design principles with a strong focal point and ow to unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual
message. Another objective was to learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks to demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout
with multiple elements.

To start o I created a couple of possible layouts for the design. After picking the one I felt would most accurately appeal to my audience, I scanned in the image of the paints
into Photoshop to create the right resolution. I imported the image into Word, and created the various pieces of the layout. As I placed the layers together I was careful to
follow a nice complimentary color scheme. I chose one font with contrasting weights for simplicity and unity throughout my design. I was enlightened to learn how much I could use the various design features of Microsoft Word. My condence with the
program has increased tenfold.
Process
The objective of this project was to fully comprehend image sizing and how pixels and inches work together. Another objective was to learn how to choose a color scheme
and typeface that works for a specic message and audience.

To start o I gathered various reference photos for the man and the mountains. From there I created some rough sketches of what I wanted the image to look like. I took
the sketch into Adobe Photoshop and rened some of the roughness and added some basic colors to see what direction I wanted to go in. I then took the image into Adobe
Illustrator and, using the pen tool, I laid out the basic shapes and colors. From there I rened everything using the direct selections tool, and I used the gradient tool and palate to make a more dynamic design.
Process
The objective of this project was to fully comprehend the interface and capabilities of Adobe Illustrator, and to take those skills and put them to the test in creating an
original piece of art.
