JULY 2019 T he Sextant Knights of Columbus Msgr. Henry Speck Fourth Degree Assembly #2300 From Faithful Navigator - Duane Ludewig Greetings, The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus theme is Patriotism. Let’s all stop for a moment and thank God this 4th of July for our freedom and independence. The Knights have been very busy in the community with the Smokin- in-Steele which was a huge success again this year. The weather was very cooperative and not raining especially at its usual time at the awards ceremony. Thanks to all those who helped make this event possible and we look forward to next year. The Honor Guard has been involved with the Memorial Service, Sacred Heart Cemetery Mass, and the Flag Day at the Elks. The debut of the Flag Day - June 14 July Assembly Meeting - Owatonna Arts Center The July Assembly meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 24 at the Owatonna Arts Center. Social hour from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with wine, beer, or soft drinks. Dinner will follow at 6:00 p.m. Menu: lettuce salad, roast beef, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans almondine, chocolate cake with vanilla frosting, coffee, & lemonade. Following dinner we will be treated to a presentation and tour by Anne Peterson, Museum Director of the Minnesota State Public School Orphanage Museum. This Owatonna attraction is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a Historic District. Meal is complimentary with a cash bar. Please call in your reservation so we can have an accurate number for the caterer. Call or email Tim Rice at 451-3606 or [email protected] Deadline is July 20. Join us for a fun, informational evening at one of Owatonna’s attractions. Members of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Honor Guard display the nations flags, 1775 to present, at the annual Flag Day Ceremony, which was hosted Friday, June 14 by the Owatonna Elks Lodge #1395. Also taking part in the ceremony were trumpeter Amy Bauer, Elks Officers, the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Chorus, and the American Legion/VFW Honor Guard. Program highlights included the reading of the winning Elks Americanism Essay “What makes you proud of America?” written by Lauren Nelson. A free dinner for Veterans preceded this annual event. Msgr. The old regalia will be part of our historic past. Plans are to donate one set to the Steele County Historical Society. Our July meeting will not be held at our regular venue at the hall with tacos, rather it will be at the Steele County Art Center. An invitation will be sent separately with details. Watch your mail. A special thanks to Tim Rice for spearheading this event. The August 28th meeting will be held at Jaycee Park. The menu has not been set but it promises to be good. Summer is here which brings a lot of summer activities. Be safe in all you do and enjoy.
