  1. 1. Matthew 8:23-27 Mark 4:35-41 Luke 8:22-25 JESUS CALMS THE STORM
  2. 2. On April 10, 1912, the Titanic, largest ship afloat, left Southampton, England on her maiden voyage to New York City. The White Star Line had spared no expense in assuring her luxury. A legend even before she sailed, her passengers were a mixture of the world's wealthiest basking in the elegance of first class accommodations and immigrants packed into steerage.
  3. 3. She was touted as the safest ship ever built, so safe that she carried only 20 lifeboats - enough to provide accommodation for only half her 2,200 passengers and crew. This discrepancy rested on the belief that since the ship's construction made her "unsinkable," her lifeboats were necessary only to rescue survivors of other sinking ships. Additionally, lifeboats took up valuable deck space.
  4. 4. Four days into her journey, at 11:40 P.M. on the night of April 14, she struck an iceberg. Her fireman compared the sound of the impact to "the tearing of calico, nothing more." However, the collision was fatal and the icy water soon poured through the ship.
  5. 5. It became obvious that many would not find safety in a lifeboat. Each passenger was issued a life jacket but life expectancy would be short when exposed to water four degrees below freezing. As the forward portion of the ship sank deeper, passengers scrambled to the stern.
  6. 6. John Thayer witnessed the sinking from a lifeboat. "We could see groups of the almost fifteen hundred people still aboard, clinging in clusters or bunches, like swarming bees; only to fall in masses, pairs or singly, as the great after part of the ship, two hundred and fifty feet of it, rose into the sky, till it reached a sixty-five or seventy degree angle." The great ship slowly slid beneath the waters two hours and forty minutes after the collision
  7. 7. The next morning, the liner Carpathia rescued 705 survivors. One thousand five hundred twenty-two passengers and crew were lost. Subsequent inquiries attributed the high loss of life to an insufficient number of lifeboats and inadequate training in their use.
  8. 8. One evening Jesus said to His disciples, Come with me across the lake. 8:22 Pada suatu hari Yesus naik ke dalam perahu bersama-sama dengan murid-murid-Nya, dan Ia berkata kepada mereka: "Marilah kita bertolak ke seberang danau." Lalu bertolaklah mereka.
  9. 9. They set out in the boat that Jesus was already sitting in. Mereka duduk di perahu bersama-sama dengan YESUS
  10. 10. Jesus was in the back of the boat. He was tired and fell asleep with His head on a pillow. YESUS berada di belakang perahu. Ia merasa lelah dan tertidur dengan bantal di kepala-Nya.
  11. 11. As can happen on Galilee a fierce wind swept across the water. The waves grew large and started sweeping over the sides of the boat. Seperti yang dapat terjadi di danau Galilea, angin yang kencang menyapu air. Gelombang semakin besar dan mulai menyapu sisi perahu.
  12. 12. There were experienced fishermen on board but they became afraid the boat would be swamped. Para nelayan yang handal dan berpengalaman itu mulai merasa takut kalau-kalau perahu mereka akan disapu ombak dan tenggelam.
  13. 13. The disciples went to Jesus and woke Him. Teacher, do you care about us? they shouted. We will drown! Maka murid-murid-Nya membangunkan Dia dan berkata kepada-Nya: "Guru, Engkau tidak perduli kalau kita binasa?"
  14. 14. Jesus stood up in the swaying boat and addressed the storm. Ia pun bangun, menghardik angin itu dan berkata kepada danau itu:
  15. 15. Quiet! Be still! Jesus ordered. "Diam! Tenanglah! YESUS memerintahkan.
  16. 16. The wind stopped. Angin ribut itu pun berhenti.
  17. 17. The lake became calm. Danau itupun menjadi tenang.
  18. 18. Jesus spoke to those in the boat, Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith? Lalu Ia berkata kepada mereka: "Mengapa kamu begitu takut? Mengapa kamu tidak percaya?"
  19. 19. 1. All OUR GREATNESS AND ABILITY IS NOTHING IF COMPARED TO NATURE POWER
  20. 20. 1. All OUR GREATNESS AND ABILITY IS NOTHING IF COMPARED TO NATURE POWER ISAIAH 40:12 40:12 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
  21. 21. 1. All OUR GREATNESS AND ABILITY IS NOTHING IF COMPARED TO NATURE POWER ISAIAH 43:2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
  22. 22. 1. All OUR GREATNESS AND ABILITY IS NOTHING IF COMPARED TO NATURE POWER ISAIAH 49:15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.
  23. 23. 2. THE DISCIPLES FORGOT JESUS E.G. White, Life Sketches 196
  24. 24. 2. THE DISCIPLES FORGOT JESUS We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history. E.G. White, Life Sketches 196
  25. 25. 2. THE DISCIPLES FORGOT JESUS ISAIAH 51:12 I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass; 51:13 And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor?
  26. 26. 3. HE HAD NEVER IGNORED EVEN A SINGLE PERSONS CRY
  27. 27. 3. HE HAD NEVER IGNORED EVEN A SINGLE PERSONS CRY MATTHEW 8:25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. MARK 4:38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? LUKE 8:24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish.
  28. 28. 3. HE HAD NEVER IGNORED EVEN A SINGLE PERSONS CRY PSALMS 107:19 Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.
  29. 29. 3. HE HAD NEVER IGNORED EVEN A SINGLE PERSONS CRY JEREMIAH 29:12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
  30. 30. 3. HE HAD NEVER IGNORED EVEN A SINGLE PERSONS CRY 2 FOOTPRINTS ON THE SAND One night I dreamed a dream. As I was walking along the beach with my Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, One belonging to me and one to my Lord. After the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that at many times along the path of my life, especially at the very lowest and saddest times, there was only one set of footprints.
  31. 31. 3. HE HAD NEVER IGNORED EVEN A SINGLE PERSONS CRY 2 FOOTPRINTS ON THE SAND This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it. "Lord, you said once I decided to follow you, You'd walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me." He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you Never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you."
  32. 32. LOOKING FOR A PERFECT COUPLE
  33. 33. 4. LITTLE FAITH Matthew 8:26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
  34. 34. 4. LITTLE FAITH HEBREW 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
  35. 35. 5. SIN DESTROYS PEACE ISAIAH 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
  36. 36. 5. SIN DESTROYS PEACE GENESIS 3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
  37. 37. 5. SIN DESTROYS PEACE GENESIS 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
  38. 38. 5. SIN DESTROYS PEACE GENESIS 3:17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; 3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
  39. 39. 6. SURRENDER TO GOD PSALMS 37:5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
