Brian Thomas Panebi-anco was arrested on Thursday July 19th, in Radium BC and charged with several offences relating to the death of

Cory Jarock. Panebian-co was also arrested on other outstanding arrest warrants that were unre-lated to Jarock’s death.

The Columbia Valley RCMP assisted by the South East District Ma-

jor Crimes Unit com-menced their investiga-tion into Cory Jarock’s death on April 3rd, 2012, after Jarock was found unresponsive in the driveway of an In-vermere home.

Panebianco was pre-sented to a Judicial Jus-tice of the Peace bail hearing on July 20th, and was remanded into custody until his next appearance in Court in Invermere on Wednes-day July 25th. Panebi-anco has been charged with Assault, Robbery, and Breach of Recogni-zance in relation to the death of Cory Jarock. The RCMP Southeast District Major Crimes Unit investigators con-tinued their investiga-tion into Jarock’s death and have con rmed fur-ther charges have been laid against the 23 year old Invermere man.

Panebianco has also been charged with Man-slaughter and Criminal Negligence Causing Death in relation to the death of Cory Jarock after Jarock was found deceased in the drive-way of an Invermere home.

Panebianco remains in custody awaiting a Court Appearance for September 11, 2012.

Additional charges laid after investigation in Invermere death

Users of the NorthStar Trail between the City of Cranbrook and Kimber-ley are advised the trail will be closed on Mon-day August 20, 2012 be-ginning at 7 a.m.

The closure is due to mowing maintenance work required along the length of the trail. The City of Cranbrook and the City of Kimberley appreciate the support and understanding of those regular users of the trail. The trail is expected to be open for public use again on Tuesday Au-gust 21, 2012 as usual.

Both Cities of Cran-brook and Kimberley apologize for any incon-venience this closure of the NorthStar Trail may cause.

As well, residents of and visitors to the City of Cranbrook, access-ing the NorthStar Rails to Trails off of McPhee Road at Theatre Road, behind the Esso Bulk Station and Home Depot are reminded there is no parking allowed, where the trail begins.

Northstar Trail closed for upkeep

Highway 95A has been fully reopened fol-lowing a closure earlier due to a house re.

Five people escaped with no injuries af-ter a re broke out in a tri-plex just outside the City of Kimberely boundaries and are now staying with friends and family.

Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Re-source Operations re crews and RCMP re-sponded immediately with three Forestry ground crews and a he-licopter.

Approximately 300 customers were without power in the Meadow-brook area after the re damaged a BC Hydro power pole. The pole has now been replaced. Fortis BC is on site to turn off gas service to the affected property.

The home, which is located approximately 1 kilometre east of Kimberley, is located outside a re protection zone.

The cause of the re is unknown at this time.

Art From the Attic, a giant one-day sale of new and recycled art donations in Invermere, will be held again for the second year on Sat-urday, September 1st.

Last year the innova-tive new event drew almost 1,000 pieces of donated art and more than 1,200 clients eager to nd an art bargain or an undiscovered mas-terpiece.

“The event was suc-cessful beyond our expectations, raising $15,400 for two worth-while charities,” said Event Manager Elinor

Florence. Hosting the sale were

the Columbia Valley

Arts Council and the Invermere Health Care Auxiliary, another char-ity that raises money for the Invermere and Dis-trict Hospital.

Among the treasures offered last year were a signed silkscreen

print by aboriginal art-ist Clarence Wescoupe that sold for $160, two large silkscreen prints prepared for the 1988 Olympic Games in Cal-gary that sold for $250 each, and a Patrick Roy hockey jersey that sold

for $400, plus hundreds of vintage and contem-porary prints, photo-graphs and paintings. On the less expensive end, hundreds of items sold for $5 or $10 each.

The sale will take place at the Invermere

Community Centre from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Last year there was a lineup when the doors opened, so plan to arrive early. The sale accepts cash or cheques only; and for the last hour of the day, from 3 p.m. to

4 p.m., everything re-maining will be sold at half-price.

For information, call 250-342-1621 or email [email protected]. You may also visit Art From the Attic on Facebook.

It was a very hot weather(over 30 C on both days) in Moscow, Idaho for the Palouse Cup 2012. Not deterred by the weather, the Rov-ers took Armada for the Championship.

Most of the boys have been playing since they were U10. They devel-oped a great bonding and enjoy each other very well under a great coaching staff, Coach Michael Stambulic and Assistant Coach Fiona Risdon. Their dedica-tion of coaching and willing to work with the boys are amazing! The boys listen and re-

spect coaches and have improved a lot over the years. These boys were very dedicated to their practices and the games. They wanted to win a gold again since they were a champion last year in Moscow in U11 division! Their de-termination paid off!

The boys had to play in U13 division. Both VYSA Rocks and Ar-mada are from Lewis-ton, Idaho - VYSA is a younger team (the same age as us, all players born in 2000). Rest of the teams are a mixture of 1999 after Aug.1st & 2000 before Aug.1st.

They nished 1st af-ter the round robin then

moved up to a champi-onship game.

Great coaching and Great effort from the boys. All the parents are very proud of the boys!

We would like to send special thank you to our Coach Michael Stam-bulic, Assistant Coach Fiona Risdon and Team Manager Lisa Strauss. We couldn’t have asked for better coaches, man-ager, parents and of course, the boys! Great group of boys!

During a fall inspec-tion of the home, as you prepare for winter, don’t forget to take a good look at the roof of your home.

The simplest and saf-est way to carry out an initial, basic inspection of a roof is to use binoc-ulars, unless of course

you have a at roof. This will allow you to check for loose shin-gles or tiles that you can climb up and x securely with nails or glue. Be sure to ham-mer down any nails that are sticking up, as they could cause water in l-trations.

A thorough inspection of a roof also includes checking it from the inside. This will have to be done from the attic. Check carefully to ensure that the roof has not started sinking between the rafters.

If you see any dark stains on the wood, they are likely the result of a water in ltration. The problem is relatively new if the stain is still

damp and if you can pierce the wood fairly easily with a screw-driver. If this is not the case, the problem must have occurred in the past and been repaired.

It goes without say-ing that any repair jobs should be done properly and quickly to prevent any further damage.

College of the Rock-ies is ready to welcome more than 2,000 new and returning students on Tuesday, Septem-ber 4. Tuesday is set aside for students to orient themselves, get a locker, meet their class-mates, get their student ID cards, buy textbooks and have some fun. Day and evening classes will start on Wednes-day, September 5.

At the Cranbrook Main Campus, Manag-er of Campus Life and Athletics Cori Andri-chuk noted, “The day kicks off at 9:30 am with coffee and muf ns in the gym, followed by a welcome and an-nouncements, orienta-tion and information sessions. The afternoon will be a ton of fun with a free BBQ for College

students and employees featuring a live band and the must-be-seen-to-be-believed ‘Fly on the Wall’ competition where teams duct-tape one member to a wall to see who stays up the longest.”

“Welcome Week con-tinues right through un-til Sunday, September 9,” Andrichuk contin-ued. “There are lots of activities scheduled for students and employees throughout the week in-cluding a fun volleyball tournament, a bowling and pizza night, access to the climbing wall and a chance to experience the thrill of a white wa-ter rafting trip.”

Executive Director of College Relations and Marketing, Donna Kraus-Hagerman add-ed, “Our students pri-marily come from the Kootenay region, how-

ever, we also attract learners from across Canada and around the world. We active-

ly recruit students by promoting the East Kootenay lifestyle, our friendly communities, our lower tuition and smaller class sizes, our excellent faculty and staff at all our campus-es, and the wide variety of programs we offer.

“Our excellent fac-ulty is very quali ed and this is recognized across the province. Our support staff is knowledgeable, helpful and truly professional in every way. We are

extremely fortunate to have such dedicated faculty and staff whose sole purpose is to help students succeed. And this all starts right from Day One, Tuesday, September 4,” Kraus-Hagerman concluded.

From Wednesday through Saturday, Au-gust 22-25, representa-tives from College of the Rockies will be at the Tamarack Centre Mall to answer questions from the public about its many programs and services. The informa-tion booth will be open from 11:30 am to 5 p.m. daily.

Recruitment Of cer Hugh Moore noted that “We’ve done a mall display the past couple of years and found this was an excellent op-portunity for the pub-lic to speak to us. Our booth will be located at the Winners end of the Tamarack Centre.”

“This is a great chance for people to learn more about College of the Rockies including which programs still might have space for September and what de-

gree options are avail-able in addition to the numerous certi cates and diplomas we of-fer,” Moore continued. “And if people aren’t sure about returning to school, we hope they

will at least stop by to say hi.”

Shopping for education

Recruitment Of cer, Hugh Moore, is prepared to provide information to patrons at the Tamarack Centre Mall.

The start of a new school year is the per-fect occasion to give your children a short les-son that will be a good investment in the local economy. Make the most of the back to school shopping blitz to raise your children’s aware-ness of the many bene ts of shopping locally.

There’s only one con-dition for turning this intensive training into a resounding success: you just have to buy all school supplies and clothing items from businesses near you.

When shopping with your children at local stores for stationery, books, school bags, clothes, shoes, sporting equipment, and elec-tronics, mention to your kids that when local people frequent these stores they are help-ing to create jobs and incomes for others in their town.

Bring to your chil-dren’s attention the fact that if these businesses remain pro table, one day they might be the source of a summer job or even, at a later date,

a full-time job.If your children have

busy schedules, they’ll appreciate that shop-ping close to home will save lots of travelling time. If they’re keen e n v i r o n m e n t a l i s t s , make them aware of the fact that buying local helps to reduce green-house gases, not to mention all the money you’ll save on gas. Best of all, nancial savings could trickle down to them in the form of pocket money. That will help them get the message!

Discover the colour and warmth of rhythms from around the world this fall by register-ing at an African or Brazilian drumming school.

Give free rein to your creativity and learn about different cultures while having lots of fun. As well as developing your motor skills, learning the art of drumming will also allow you to improve your concentration and your musical memory.

Classes offered by

drumming schools are usually given in the form of group work-shops that take place in a dynamic and festive atmosphere. They intro-duce participants to the playing techniques of various instruments, including the djembe, conga, bongo, darbuka, and doum doum. These instruments are sup-plied by the school and can sometimes be rent-ed by students wishing to practice at home.

Do you have rhythm in your blood? Exchange your running shoes for a pair of Wellington

boots and experience the enthralling adven-ture of gumboot danc-ing.

Like drumming with the feet, this art form originated in the gold mines of South Africa during apartheid and is named for the rub-ber boots or gumboots worn by the work-ers. Because speaking was forbidden, coded rhythms tapped by the feet allowed miners to communicate amongst themselves. Over time this rarely used lan-guage transformed into a form of percussive

dance that is taught around the world. Best of all, the gumboot dance is great for stay-ing t and relaxing due to its steady rhythm and rapid movements.

So, whether you pre-fer to learn the art of djembe or gumboot, let the mesmerizing and powerful rhythms of Africa and Brazil sweep you away as you register at a drumming school or dance class.

The schedule to be employed in the deter-mination of the number of points to be allocat-ed to a dog awarded. Winners shall be as follows: (*Includes the dog awarded Winners.)

Dogs Competing* 1 2 3 to 5 6 to 9 10 to 12 13 or more.

To determine the num-ber of championship points earned by a dog awarded Winners, total

all the dogs in com-petition which the dog defeated, directly or indirectly, for the highest of the following of cial breed awards: Winners, Best of Winners, Best of Breed or Best of Opposite Sex and then consult the schedule set forth above. Further section 15.1.12 {C} has been added and states the dog must: “have earned at least one 2 point win either at the breed level or group level.”

The system provides for additional points if a dog awarded winners also places in the Group as listed hereunder.

A class Dog awarded Best In Show at an all-breed championship show will be credited
