natural features such as rivers, hills and mountains.

Maps can show us lots of different information such as the number of

people living in an area, the weather or the best route

Most maps will have a compass rose placed in the corner. It shows the

direction of North, East, South and West.

When reading maps we use what is called directional language, such as

North, South, East and West. It helps us describe the location of features and routes on maps.

Other directional language we may use is: forward, back, up, down,

above, below, behind and in front.
