FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

As March marches out…we recognize Palm Sunday today. This time in the life of a Christian is very important, for it marks the coming of our Lord and Savior and the people crying, “Hosanna”! Don’t forget to come out this afternoon for a Worshipping good time with our Music and Worship Ministries Concert at 4:00 p.m. We look

forward to an afternoon of Praise and Worship where we will give glory to God through music, mime, dance, and reading. Let me thank our Music Ministry for a wonderful event this year. This is a special way to start Holy Week! We celebrate as a Church Family with those events that mark the Resurrection of our Savior! On Tuesday, we will worship with Olive Branch Baptist Church in Wake Forest. Join us on Thursday for our Maundy Thursday Service…as well as our Spring Festival on Saturday for our children and youth! Then, on next Sunday, we will come together and celebrate the Resurrection, First Calvary style! We look forward to our Sunday School Recitations on this day as well.

As we continue and reach the ending of this month’s emphasis on Stewardship, I remind us that God is the Owner of everything. God has allocated his blessings to us as managers of His resources and God is holding us accountable for the way we use those resources. Once again in the life of FCBC, God has proven that all things are possible to them who would believe! Thank you, disciples, for trusting God with your sacrificial gifts and your time, talents and treasures during this month. Here is a final thought about stewardship: we should always remember that it’s mostly about TRUST. If you can’t trust God then you can’t trust yourself to be an effective steward. If you are struggling, know this: you can be assured of your commitment to this local body of Christ, by becoming disciplined students of the Word. Once again, our tithes and stewardship offering is listed each week in the bulletin. As we also celebrate our first Sacrificial Sunday of the year, we hope and pray that each of you would prayerfully GIVE on today.

April is on the horizon and many exciting things are coming for the spring at First Calvary. It will also be Womanhood Month around here! Sisters, mark your calendars, so that you won’t miss a single event. Take note of the insert in today’s bulletin and plan to participate. Oh, and invite someone to join us! Let us always remember, First Calvary, that we are AN EXCITING CHURCH EXCITED ABOUT ITS MISSION!

LADIES-SAVE THE DATE: Friday, May 18th… “The Church Basement Ladies in a Mighty Fortress”, The Barn Dinner Theatre, Greensboro, N.C.

THE DEACON’S MESSAGE

Planet earth has an overabundance of people walking around tired. We often try to find things to remedy the problem. Unfortunately, we often misdiagnose the source. Misdiagnosis puts you on a collision course with true exhaustion. Our ability to handle stress in life is directly related to the strength of our spirit. The spirit that lives within us is the lens that allows us to focus on what matters most. It also allows us to deal with tough times when they come knocking at our door. If our spirit has been under attack and we have been unable to provide a proper defense, we find it broken. So what do you do? You go to the doctor and this is what he or she tells you. “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength”, Proverbs 17:22, NLT. Taking time to focus on the goodness of God and his blessings brings joy and strength to our spirit. The weight of the world brings us down, but the joy of the Lord lifts us up. Joy overcomes exhaustion every time and it is just what the doctor prescribed.
