TheMarvelwoodSummerProgramprepares studentsfortherigorsofalllevelsofhighschool.Aslearners,eachstudentwalksauniquepathtowardssuccess,onethatisnotalwayseasily recognizedintraditionalschoolenvironments.Ourprogramprovidesopportunitiesforalllearnersinasecure,supportive,andchallengingenvironment.Ourcurriculumisprogressiveatalllevels,withsmallclassesthatbothenableandrequireparticipationandexpectationswhicharetailoredtoeachparticipant’sneedandgoals.Ourmissionistohelpstudentsachieveacademicsuccessandincreasetheiracademicandpersonalconfidence.Creativeclassroominstruction,projects,real-worldexperiences,andadventure-drivenafternoonsessionsgiveparticipantsavarietyofopportunitiestodemonstratetheirtalents,

nurturetheirpotential,andappreciatethevalueoftheirstudies.Participantsreturntotheirhomeschoolswithastrongsenseofaccomplishment,awealthofstrategiesforcontinuedsuccess,andarenewedsenseofconfidenceinthemselvesandtheirabilities.

Theacademicclassesaresmallbydesignwithananticipatedratioof8to1.Thecoursesareproductiveexchangesintendedtoenhancecurrentknowledgeandexposuretogiventopics.Studentsenrollingintheseclassescanexpecthands-on,engagingexperiencesfromwhichtheywillgleannecessaryskillstofostertheirhighschooleduca-tion.Studentsselecttwocourseswhichmaybetakenforenrichmentormake-upcredit.

*TheSkillsclassisdesignedtoassiststudentsinidentifyingtheirlearningstyleswhileinternal-izingstrategiestoensuregrowthasindependentlearners.Thecourseemphasizeswriting,organiza-tion,readingcomprehension,testpreparationskills,andnotetaking.Specificobjectivescanbeincludedwhenastudent’sacademicplaniswritten(see admissions procedures).

EnglishLanguageLearnersTheSummerProgramoffersanexcitingopportunityforinternationalstudentstostudyEnglishintheUnitedStates.LearningEnglishinvolvesmorethanbooks,worksheetsandcomputerprograms;itisaboutparticipationandexperience.Ourteachingstaffisskilled,creative,optimisticandenthusiasticabouthelpinginternationalstudentstoimprovetheirEnglish-languageskills.Theclassroomexperienceisinteractiveandenjoyable,andthefacultyareadeptatmotivatingeventheshyeststudenttogetinvolvedinasupportiveandfriendlyenviron-ment.Theleadershipexercisesintheafternoonsandweekendactivitiesprovidepracticalexposure

forthesestudentstoexperienceimmersion,inclusionwithinaclosegroup,andtodevelopactivevocabularyandcomprehension. StudentsenrollinginourELLprogramwilltakeafullmorningofELLcourses,includinggrammar,writing,andconversation.AllELLstudentswillberequiredtotakeplacementtestsatthebeginningoftheprogramandperformanoralpresentationattheend.Ifastudent’sEnglish-speakingandwritingskillsarestrongenough,theymayelecttobeplacedinmainstreamcourses.Toeflpreparationisalsoavailable.

tobeenthusiastic,positive,anddevelopacreativecurriculumwiththeircoursestoinspireandcapturetheparticipants.TheSummerProgramemploysveteranfacultyofTheMarvelwoodSchooltooverseetheleadershipafternoonsandacademiccourses,alumniareinvitedbacktoparticipateasresidentialinterns,andgraduate-schoollevelinternsarehiredtoassistwithclasses.
