Canada’s New Mainstream™

3

We believe that Canadians come together on commonalities. We reject the notion that diversity is based on colour, gender, sexual orientation or religious belief.

• Cosmopolitans with a “citizens of the world” attitude who chose Canada as their home.

• Comfortable with our own identities

• Shared citizenship based on commonalty not on difference

• Enjoy the stimulation that exists within a diversity of people

• Want to contribute their own perspectives on affairs and events of global village

• Expect our institutions to be reflective, accessible and inclusive

• Open and eager to interact with the peoples of our nation and those of the globe

• Believe wholeheartedly in civic responsibility and are eager to participate

Our Market

9

• On average, they own their home within 3 years of arriving to Canada a car within 18 months and computer almost immediately

• Over half of new Canadians possess a post-secondary degree (more than double the national average)

• They are 20% of the Canadian population but hold half of the PhDs and 40% of the MAs

• 4 times more likely to live in a multi-generational household

• 98% report that coming to Canada was first choice

• Cultural newspapers and online websites are the primary resources for new Canadians to access vital information: a growing cultural population has lead to an explosion of cultural media

Our Clients

10

11

• Quick Service Restaurant: Pizza and Fried Chicken are the fastest growing food options in China and India making Canadian Chinese and the Canadian South Asian communities attractive markets for this category in Canada.

• Pharmaceuticals: so called “Healthy Immigrant” effect wears off within 10 years of residence in North America leading to much higher incidence of many North American Lifestyle diseases than was previously understood (i.e., hypertension, obesity, diabetes).

• Infant Nutrition: In India it is illegal to market food products aimed at children under 24 months therefore Canadian South Asian first time mothers will have little or no exposure to any of the leading competing brands in Canada.

• Travel: Every major tourist location in Europe has spent millions of dollars each over the past 5 years trying to attract tourists from the burgeoning middle class of Asia making Canadian Asians a viable target for Canadian travel operators looking for previously untapped markets.

• Labour: (Workplace injuries-Ontario): Polish and Aboriginal workers occupy disproportionately large segments in key industrial sectors that suffer the highest incidences of the most common workplace injuries. These populations are focused in communities outside the accepted major centres in Ontario and therefore would not be reached in any meaningful way through traditional mainstream outreach.

• This lack of a common historical vocabulary and knowledge severely weakens us as a nation.

The Canadian Experience series will make a major contribution to Canadian unity and the education of its citizens.

• 52-week series of 800-900 word columns

• Written by established historians.

Column topics and themes include:Prime Ministers • Canada and War • Canadian Political Parties • Multiculturalism in Canada • Culture • First Nations’ French-English Relations • Canada and Britain • Canadian Policy • Ottawa’s Provincial Relations
