Elections BC is conducting an enu-meration and updating the provincialvoters list for the May 2013 ProvincialGeneral Election.
Beginning Mon., Feb. 25, over 1.9 mil-lion notices will be mailed to residentialaddresses in the province asking eligibleresidents to register to vote or to updatetheir voter registration information. Res-
idents can do so online at www.elec-tions.bc.ca/ovr or by calling Elections BCtoll-free at 1-800-661-8683.
Residents may also identify the namesof voters no longer living at their addressand request that their name be removedfrom the address.
Starting March 6, Elections BC voterregistration officials will provide voterregistration opportunities throughout theprovince at shopping malls, communitycentres, campuses and more. Voter reg-istration officials will be conductingdoor-to-door visits in selected high mo-
bility neighbourhoods, new subdivisionsand residential complexes.

ments throughout BC will collect un-wanted and unauthorized guns from thepublic. The program, announced at ameeting of the BC Assoc. of Chiefs of Po-lice, will help remove the firearms fromthe community, reducing the risk of themfalling into the hands of criminals. It isalso expected to generate tips on illegalfirearms and promote goodwill betweenpolice and local communities.
During the month of June, people whowant to surrender ammunition or weapons,including imitations and replicas, can con-tact their local police and provide basic information on the items they want to surrender.Police will visit residences to pick up the firearms, so the public should not bring the gunsor ammunition to the police themselves. The amnesty will not apply to weapons or firearmsused for a criminal purpose. Similar programs in 1997, 1998 and 2006 (3,213 guns & 96,500rounds of ammunition) successfully removed thousands of guns from BC streets.
