Office hours: Monday through Thursday 8:00 am to 8:00 pmFriday 8:00 am to 5:00 pmSaturday and Sunday Closed

Mishawaka is blessed with 26 public parks, each with its own unique natural attributes. For boating enthusiasts, there are four parks with boat launches on the St. Joseph River. Water skiers and sailors can indulge in their pastimes in the river’s east section. Incidentally, this is one of the best rivers in the state for fishing. Smallmouth bass, steelhead trout, Coho salmon, Chinook salmon and walleye are plentiful in their seasons.

Mishawaka parks also boasts an excellent swimming pool, five splash pads and accommodations for tennis and various field sports. Disc golf is another popular park sport (Wilson). For more traditional golfers, the 18-hole Eberhart-Petro Golf Course offers plenty of challenges. In the winter, skaters can show off their skills on the ice rink at Merrifield Park or thrill to the lighted tubing runs at Wilson Park.

For over 85 years, Eberhart-Petro Municipal Golf Course has served the City of Mishawaka and surrounding areas with a fantastic golf course. First opened in 1929 with the first nine holes on the south side of the St. Joseph River then expanding to 18 holes in 1949, which includes four river crossings. This may be the most well-manicured municipal golf course you will ever play, and probably the toughest 6,000 yard, par-70 golf course in the Midwest. Built on only 89 acres, Eberhart-Petro will challenge every level of golfer from beginner to the most-seasoned player. We invite you to come experience one of Mishawaka’s finest assets – Eberhart-Petro Municipal Golf Course.

MissionAdopt-a-Park is a new program managed by the Mishawaka Parks Department that is aimed at improving the environment and beautifying our parks, trails, natural areas, and open spaces by generating a strong sense of ownership and responsibility through community involvement. Adopt-a-Park involves and educates the community in what it takes to preserve clean parks and public areas for everyone. This program offers the opportunity for people and organizations to become more involved in their community in a way that promotes civic pride, appreciation, and awareness.

Who Can AdoptAnyone from an individual to a community-minded organization can become involved in the Adopt-a-Park program. By participating, individuals, neighborhood organizations, park users, civic and church groups, families, scout troops, businesses, youth groups and schools are all encouraged to do what they can to promote safe, beautiful places for residents to enjoy. Some of the main supporters in 2017 were: • Bethel College• Comcast • St. Joe Valley Master Gardeners • Japanese American Friendship Club• Summer of Service • IUSB Athletics • Beiger Elementary School • Cub Scouts

Areas to AdoptYou can adopt an entire park or a particular area in a park including:• Flower Beds • Playgrounds• Picnic Shelters and Band Shell• Trails • Trees and Shrubs • Sidewalks

How Can Volunteers HelpVolunteer groups can help care for their adopted areas in the following ways:• Litter pick-up• Leaf raking and debris removal (dead grass, tree limbs,

vegetation, wind debris)• Spreading of mulch, gravel, playground fiber• Removal of exotic invasive plants• Assisting staff with planting of flowers, shrubbery,

maintenance of flower beds (including weeding and watering)• Clean-up of picnic shelters and play structures• Helping to take an inventory of our Park and Public Trees • Other improvement ideas as suggested or approved

Ways for Individuals to Help • Join our Landscape Staff Thursdays at Beutter Park from 7:00

a.m.-2:00 p.m. to assist with a variety of projects• Join our Staff on Saturdays at Central Park to help with

weeding and trash pick-up

CommitmentAdopt-a-Park volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of one season of service to their adopted area. We also ask that volunteers perform cleanups or other tasks in their adopted park or greenway at least once per month. Some tasks may require weekly attention, such as flower beds or landscape area upkeep. Adoption commitments usually begin in March and go through December.
