Off to its best start since 1971, Morehead State's football squad w ill try to make it 3-0 in the Ohio Va lley Conference today. The Eagles won a 17-3, come-from-behind decision over Murray State last Saturday and freshman tailback Dion Jenkins wore the hero's laurels.
Jenkins rushed for 57 yards in 11 carries and both MSU touchdowns. His two scores were MSU's fi rst rushing TD's of the season.
MSU's defense also played well , sparked by a goal line stand early in the contest t hat saw linebacker Tom Warren stop the Racer quarterback at the one-yard line on a fourth down play.
Warren leads MSU in defensive plays with 44 t ackles and 10 assists and is among the leaders in the conference. Nose guard Ron Henke is
, second with 38 defensive plays. Quarterback Phi l Simms continues to rank
high in the conference in passing and total offense. He has hit on 48 of 84 passes for 708 yards and eight touchdowns, and averages 181.8 yards per game in total offense.
Receivers Eddie Bishop and Larry Campassi are among the OVC's top pass cat chers. Bishop has caught 17 of Simms' aeria ls for 247 yards and five TD's, whi le Campassi has caught 14 passes for 225 yards.
Dorron Hunter is among the conference's top punt returners, averaging 14 yards per return .
The Eagles are 2-1-1 on the season.

March on Down the Field Pre-Game Show
THE MOREHEAD STATE UNIVERSITY MARCHING BAND officia lly opens the day's activities with its pre-game show. Music SOCK IT TO 'EM is heard as the band comes broadside across the f ield and the Fightin' Eagle struts his stuff. A " Block M" is made to the west side of the f ield in tune with the FIGHT SONG . A contemporary arrangement of AMERICA brings the band into concert formation for the introduction of the 1977 Homecoming Queen and her court. Appropriate ly, the band softly plays ISN'T SHE LOVELY. Fol lowing the int roductions comes the ALMA MATER, invocation and a patriotic reading by MSU administrators Dr. John R. Duncan and Dr. Will iam Pierce. THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER follows, then the band moves to the north end of the field, form ing a tunnel for the entrance of the Eagles to the strains of the FIGHT SONG.
Halftime Show The Big Band from Daniel Boone Land opens its special
Homecomi ng 77 show with STRIKE UP THE BAND. Next, for the benefit of alumni and friends, the band introduces featured twirler Tammy Jo Worthington , otherwise known as WONDER WOMAN . Next on center stage is the line of twirlers , affectionately identified by Marching Bands Director Chuck Lee as CHARLI E'S ANGELS. To get into the Homecoming spirit, the band outlines t he Commonwealth of Kentucky and plays HAIL, HAIL, THE GANG'S ALL HERE. Then comes MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME with television game show host Chuck Woolery on the vocals. Back in concert formation, the band strikes up THERE' LL BE A HOT TIME IN THE OLD TOWN TONIGHT fol lowed by the Stan Kenton hit MALAGA and exits to STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER .

Austin Peay The Governors are in their first year under
Head Coach Boots Donnel ly and are off to one of their fastest starts in severa l years Following a season-opening loss to UT-Martir,, A PSU has defeated Mars Hil l (17-15), Western Kentucky (21-3) and Eastern Kentucky (20-17).
The shocker over OVC-favorite Eastern Kentucky occurred last week in Richmond. The Governors erased a 17-0 halftime deficit to
Boots Donnelly claim the decision. A 53-yard punt return by APSU Head Coach Don Derrick turned the game around.
APSU quarterback Randy Christophel has hit on 23 of 43 passes this season for 354 yards and three touchdowns.
The Governor running backs are strong and fast. Tailback Coveak Moody, a sprinter during track season, has rushed for 262 yards in 64 carries, wh ile fullback Waddel l Whitehead leads the team with 284 yards in 58 attempts.
The APSU defense is paced by AII-OVC linebacker Bob Bible, who is among the OVC
Coveak Moody leaders in defensive plays. Speedy Tailback The Eagles hold a 9-6-0 lead in the series

which dates to 1962 but the Governors have won the last three meetings, inc luding a 27-13 win last season in Clarksvi lle.
