Task 1 - Phonics Mrs Cope’s Group This week we are focusing on the different spellings of the ‘oo’ sound (the same sound as we hear in the word ‘moon’). Have a go at the activities on the following pages. Miss Russell’s Group This week we are focusing on words that have an ‘l’ sound at the end. There are four different endings that make this sound (le, el, al and il). I’m sending you off on a word hunt to find as many words as you can with an ‘l’ sound ending.

Task 2 – Reading Read the information page all about tigers!

Answer the questions about them either on the sheet or in your Virtual Learning Book.

Task 3 – Writing In your RE learning this week, you will be learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali. The story of Rama and Sita is particularly important at the time of Diwali. Start by watching this clip: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/religious-studies-ks1-the-hindu-story-of-rama-and-sita/zdtmnrd Also have a look at the powerpoint that is saved on the Virtual Learning page of the school website called ‘Rama and Sita’. RE In your RE learning this week you are going to be learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali. Start by looking at the powerpoint called ‘Diwali’ on the Virtual Learning pages of the school website. Then, watch this video to see how Jessica and her family get ready to celebrate Diwali. https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/lets-celebrate-diwali. You can do some extra research too if you would like to! Make an information poster all about the celebration of Diwali. You can choose how to layout your ideas but your poster should include sentences of key facts as well as pictures. When it is finished, share your learning with your family. DT In the story of Rama and Sita, the people welcomed Rama and Sita back by lighting small lights called ‘divas’. Design and make your own diva using salt dough. Salt dough is an easy material you can use at home (we can use it a little bit like clay). There is a recipe for you on the following pages. Art During the Hindu festival of Diwali, bright patterns are drawn on the floor to encourage the goddess Lakshmi to enter their homes (like Jessica made in her doorway). Traditionally, they are made using rice, grains, flour, sand or chalk. Have a look at the powerpoint that I have saved on the Virtual Learning page of the school website called ‘Rangoli’. As you can see, Rangoli patterns are often symmetrical. Now it’s your turn to get creative! Design and create your own Rangoli pattern. You can choose how you make it – drawn with chalk on the ground outside, using dyed rice or colourful sand – the choice is yours!

Maths – Task 1

Write down the time each clock is showing on the line underneath. Be careful – is it past or to?

Draw the time on each clock. Some of the clocks have been started for you. Make sure it is clear

which is your minute hand and which is your hour hand.

English – Task 1 (Mrs Cope’s Group)

find?

Page 6: MYTCHETT PRIMARY ACADEMY HOME LEARNING YEAR 2 WEEK BEGINNING: 22/6/20 Maths Task 1 … › wp-content › uploads › ... · 2020-06-21 · Wider Curriculum – DT Salt dough recipe

Write a list of all of the ‘oo’ spellings that you found in the text (I hope you

found six in total!).

Now, use the spellings of ‘oo’ to complete these words. Which spelling of ‘oo’ do you use the most?

Is there a pattern?

English – Task 1 (Miss Russell’s Group)

Time for a word hunt! Search carefully in your reading books. How many words with an ‘l’ sound

ending can you add to this table?

le This is your best bet at the end of words with more than one syllable.

el al il There are very few words that use ‘il’. Use this rhyme to remember the useful ones: I’ll know when pupils have been evil with a pencil and stencil.

candle parcel petal pencil

Now, write four sentences - one for each of the ‘l’ sound endings.
