VIRTUAL SECONDARY SCHOOL 2015 In 2015, the Virtual Secondary School will offer a mix of online and residential classes for Year 7 to Year 11 students for rural and remote Government schools. From 2016, the school will offer Year 12 classes. Virtual Secondary School Continued: For the 2015 school year the following Stage 6 (Preliminary) courses will be offered – Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics ( 2 unit), Mathematics Extension 1, English Advanced, English Extension 1, Economics, Agriculture and Big History (1 unit, BEC). NATIONAL YOUTH SCIENCE FORUM Congratulations to Lachlan Campbell ( Year 11) who has been selected as one of 300 students across Australia to attend the National Youth Science Forum which will be held in January 2015. Lachlan recently attended interviews with the Rotary District Chairs and their panels to gain a position at this prestigious forum which caters for students who would like to undertake a future career in Science related industries and job opportunities. Congratulations Lachlan! CONGRATULATIONS JESYCA PEARSON At the Orange District Athletics Carnival held last week, Year 6 student Jesyca Pearson became the overall Orange District 11 Years Girls Champion. This is a great achievement as Jesyca was competing against many girls from all the surrounding schools. Well done Jesyca! VIRTUAL SECONDARY SCHOOL 2015

In 2015, the Virtual Secondary School will offer a mix of online and residential classes for Year 7 to Year 11 students for rural and remote Government schools. From 2016, the school will offer Year 12 classes.

YEAR 10 CAKE DECORATING Recently, Year 10 Food Technology students created a design, then baked and decorated cakes for the Celebration Unit. The results were outstanding and admired by all staff and students who viewed them. A special mention must be extended to Sarah Fessey as she completed her Dolly Vardin cake during lunch times. In her absence, Year 10 completed their cakes over 2 weeks. Each student was proud of their results and we would like to congratulate all Year 10 students for their commitment and enthusiasm. Secondary News

WELLINGTON EISTEDDFOD On Thursday 14th August Jessica Burgess travelled to the Wellington Eisteddfod, where she played guitar in the 11-15 Years Classical Section and Guitar Solo in the Over 13 section. After receiving 2 firsts at Wellington, she then travelled to the Orange Eisteddfod for the evening session to compete in the Under 14 Guitar Solo where she received a Highly Commended.

WESTERN REGION ATHLETICS

On Friday 25th July, 8 students travelled to Bathurst to compete in the Western Region Athletics Trials. It started off as a very wet and rainy day and the weather was not looking promising on the drive down. However, upon arrival in Bathurst, the weather cleared and we were lucky enough to enjoy some sunshine for the rest of the day! The students competing on the day were: Grace Weekes, Tyson Whyburn, Molly Hoswell, Jake Griffiths, Karla Pearson, Tyler Webb, Rachael Geddes and Joshua Amberge. All participated in a number of track events ranging from the 100m sprint to the 1500m. All students participated to the best of their ability and all displayed great levels of athleticism throughout the carnival. Special congratulations must go to Karla Pearson, Jake Griffiths and Rachael Geddes who each successfully qualified in all of their events for the State Carnival in Sydney. Jake, Karla and Rachael’s impressive times and placing in each of their events have successfully guaranteed them a place in the State team. This is an outstanding achievement and one that they should be extremely proud of! I would like to congratulate the students for all of their efforts on the day as well as their parents who helped with transportation. Your help and support is greatly appreciated. District Athletics Carnival The Orange District Athletics Carnival was held last

Wednesday at Orange High School. Mrs Bale and Mrs Mutton,

along with 36 Molong athletes had a great day in the sun, with

all athletes competing and trying their best. Some students

achieved better results than they did at the school carnival.

Well done to everyone who competed. Five of our students

made it through to Western, which will be held on the 29th

August at Dubbo.

Congratulations to all these students, and well done to Jes for

getting 11 Yrs Girls Champion.

Premiers Spelling Bee Spelloffs for the Regional Premiers Spelling Bee were held on

Thursday. 4 students from each grade had to spell increasingly

harder words until there was just one person from each grade

left. Congratulations to Taylah Hobbs Year 3, Jack Hopkins

Year 4, Letitia Milne Year 5 and Bridie Dive Year 6. These

students will compete at the Regional finals to be held at

Raglan Public School on 15th September.

Bookweek Parade Well what a fantastic collection of book characters could be

seen in the parade last Wednesday under the COLA. Even the

teachers were dressed up as their favourite book characters,

with Mrs Hall as Thing 1 organising each class. There were lots

of princesses, wizards, Things, turtles, wolves, just to name a

few. It was great to see so many students across all classes

dressed up. As each class took it in turns to parade around the

ring, the rest of the classes and the large number of parents

and visitors clapped and cheered, with high-5’s all round.

Students were dressed as a wide range of book characters.

Well done Mrs Hall for a great parade! Please note a photo

display will be sent home at a later stage by Mrs Hall.

From the LIBRARY…

Week 7 Term 3

Hi Everyone, I hope you all had as much fun last Wednesday as I did! I would like to give a big thank you to the students, parents and staff who made the Book Week Parade afternoon very enjoyable. It was great to see such a big crowd turn out to support the students while they paraded as their favourite book characters. Congratulations to all those involved. I will be sending a separate note home with some photos of the day. There have been several impressive entries in the Book Week competition in the Library. All entries are now on display on the boards as you walk in the front door. I commend the students who have obviously put in a great deal of effort on their chosen craft and art works. Students’ work will be judged during Week 7 and winners will be announced in the newsletter next week. With a great deal of effort and dedication we now have 170 students K-9 who have completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2014. Our successful students for the final week are: Charlie Bohringer, Lily Bone, Mardie Campbell, Sharna Campbell, Naomi Chloupek, Bridie Dive, Ella Fowler, Riley Johnston, Riley Lampe, Natarsha Linde, Danielle Phillips-Clarke, Gabrielle Phillips-Clarke, Katelan Philpott, Abbey Quinn, Sarah Rapley, Delta Rodwell, Joe Spencer, Jack Thomas, Will Thomas, Lucy Vis-Lowe, Molly Weekes, Leoni Wilson, Nathan Wilson and Kara Yelland. This is the highest number of students that have completed the PRC at Molong Cenral School to date. Let’s see if we can’t make it 200 next year with some more participation from Secondary students. Sincere thanks go to all those students who took up the challenge and to those parents who encouraged their participation. Does reading for 15 minutes each day to your child really make a difference?
