“NARRATIVESEMIOTICSANDTHECAREERCONSTRUCTIONINTERVIEW”Narrative counseling is increasingly used in career counselling. One can speak of a‘narrative turn’. “CAREERPATHSANDINTERVENTIONSFORADECENTWORKANDANINCLUSIVESOCIETY”

Abstract:Thecurrentsocietiesarecharacterizedbyhighheterogeneityandsuper-diversitydue to a plot of variables associated with nationality, ethnicity, language, religion,migration paths, disability, etc. Work contexts are representative of this socialheterogeneity and complexity, and similarly to social contexts, this variability should berespected,valued,andrecognizedasaresourceandastrength.Unfortunately,phenomenaofmicroandmacroexclusionagainst individualswithvulnerability are still existingandmore frequently theyexperience indecentworkandmorebarriers in the labourmarket.Thisisanimportanttopic,asdeterminantsperspectiveonhealthseesinclusionascentraltothewellbeingofindividualsandsociety.Basedon this, careerpractitioners,professionals interested to individuals’wellbeingandfuture should be involved, identifying innovative theories and developing effectivestrategiestohelpallindividuals,andinparticularthosewithvulnerability,togainaccesstodecentworkandpromotesatisfactoryfuturelife.In this symposium, the role of some positive dimensions and several actions andinterventions to promote future and career life design process of different groups withvulnerabilitywill be discussed.More specifically, the first presentationwill focus on therole of precarious employees’ profile to increase job insecurity and the role of careeradaptability to prevent these negative effects. Then, the role of courage in life designprocess of individuals with Substance Use Disorder will be discussed. In the third andfourth presentation, attention will be given to career actions and interventions for thebenefit of other vulnerable groups of individuals, i.e. immigrants and youngpeoplewithlowsocioeconomicstatus.Inthelastpresentation,thecareerandworkforcedevelopmentpoliciesandpracticesof50autonomousstatesinU.S.willbediscussed.Presentationswithinthesymposium:1. OFANINTERNATIONALQUALITATIVERESEARCHPROJECT”Abstract: The globalization of the economy has led, inmany countries, to an increase inprecariousworkandtheinformaleconomy.Youngpeopleareamongthemostaffectedbythese changes in the world of work and few of them are employed in decent work. Aqualitative research project has been implemented on both objective and subjectiveaspects of work among a population of young workers with low levels of education indifferent parts of theworld. The symposium aims are to present the first results of ourresearch findings and to draw new lines of career counseling interventions for youngpeople in precarious work situations. The presentations underline the diversity ofrepresentationsofworkamongyoungworkersandalsoshowsomecoreaspectsofthem.Thesymposiummustprovidenewperspectivetostudyworkandenrichthedefinitionofdecent work taking into account the subjective relationship to work of individuals indifferent parts of the world. Abstract. Career counseling (CC) is facing emerging issues that confront its aims,techniques,andtrainingstrategies.Withinanunpredictableandchangingworldofwork,thepurposesofcounselingshouldbetopromotesustainablecareersanddecentwork,i.e.toprevent threateningworkingconditionsandhelppeoplemanage flexiblecareeror lifepaths. Counseling today also means situating clients’ needs, problems and solutionsaccordingtotheirlifeandculturalcontext,butalsowithintheglobalchallengestheworldisfacing.CCgoalsshouldthennotonlyfocusonclients’worksatisfaction,butalsoontheirlife satisfaction, and on a sort of “sustainable satisfaction”—which, e.g., leads to theconsideration of the impacts of individual choices on their environment and on broaderglobalissues.Inordertoreachtheseambitiousgoals,thereisaneedbothtodevelopandvalidatenewinterventiontoolsandtechniques,andtoreexaminethewaycareercounseloraretrained.Accordingly, the four communications of the ESVDC symposium address the followingquestions:(1)whatarethegoalsofCC?(2)Howcanwereachthesesgoals?(3)Howcanwetraincounselorstobeabletoreachthesesgoals?Wewill thensharenewinsightsonthe redefinition of CC aims, on innovative CC tools and techniques, and on effectiveteachingandtrainingstrategies.

This June the fifthECADOCSummerSchoolwill takeplace inAthens,Greece, hosted theLaboratoryof CareerGuidance andCounselling “MichaelKassotakis” of theNational andKapodistrian University of Athens in Greece. The summer school is addressed to PhDstudentsfromallovertheworldwhoareconductingresearchinthebroadareaofcareerguidanceandcounselling.ThroughthiscoursePhDstudentscanbroadenanddeepentheirknowledge and skills in career counselling and guidance, contemporary issues of careercounselling,advancedqualitativeandquantitativeresearchmethods,etc.PhDstudentswillbeexposedtolearningsituationswheretheywillbechallengedtoperceiveandreflectondifferent aspects of career guidance and counselling. Counselling and Guidance expertsfromallovertheworldwillcollaboratewithPhDstudentsinordertohelpthemadvanceintheir own careers. Additionally, PhD studentswill have the chance to present their ownworkanddiscussitwiththeircolleaguesfromvariouscountriesandculturalbackgrounds.WhatisECADOC?

The European Doctoral Programme in CareerGuidanceandCounselling (ECADOC)aims to trainfuture academic and practitioner leaders in thefieldofcareerguidanceandcounsellingtobecomeinterdisciplinary researchers with strongleadership and teaching competences. Theprogramme is a joint initiative of the EuropeanSociety for Vocational Designing and CareerCounseling (ESVDC) and the Foundation of theNetwork for Innovation in Career Guidance andCounselling in Europe (NICE Foundation), and is

Thesummerschool isabout thechallenges facedby thecareercounsellingandguidancediscipline,aswellasprofessionalswithinthisfield,astheyconstructtheircareerswithinafluid,pluralanddiverseworldofwork in the21stcentury. In timeswherepeople’s livesarebecoming increasinglydynamic, researchersandpractitionersengaged inCounselingandCareerGuidanceneedtochallenge,adaptanddeveloptheirunderstandings,methodsandservicesaccordingly.Moreover,theymustreflecttheirownandcollectivestandpointsindiscourseson these issues,whicharealso influencedbydiversepolitical agendasandnormativeideologies.MorethantwentyPhDstudentsfromvariouscountrieswillbeselectedasparticipantstopresent their research projects, network, and create innovative research teams tocollaborate on issues that affect career research, policy and practice.
