Dear Friends,As we approach this season of giving, I would like to share a story about one of our members and long time supporter of the Center. We were chatting one day and he shared with me one of the guiding principles that his mother passed down to him. “Give with a warm hand – rather than a cold one.” As Ilooked at him blankly he continued to explain. His mother felt that it was more important to give whileyou are alive, rather than wait until you have passed away. He has taken this approach with children, grandchildren and worthy organizations in the community. He has chosen to give what he is able and inreturn has seen the impact that his gifts have had on individuals and organizations. During this season of giving, many of us struggle with what to give. This applies to family members aswell as the charities that we may support. There seems to be a never ending stream of solicitation lettersand of course the endless lists from family members during the holiday season. Over the years, my husband and I have chosen to take a more focused approach to our giving. We havedecided on an annual amount and by targeting our giving, we are hoping to have a greater impact. Thisapproach also allows us to see the impact of our gifts. As you know, the Center does have a Legacy Society. We do encourage people in our community toinclude the NSC in their estate plans. However, we do rely on annual support from members and supporters each year. This has become especially important as our state funding is threatened. Thank you all for your consideration when you receive the NSC annual appeal letter. We are providing aconvenient way to make a monthly contribution to the Center for those who find that easier than anannual contribution. Your support is very much appreciated –no matter the amount. I hope that when you walk through thedoors of the Center or know of friends or neighbors who benefit from the programs and services offeredhere – you know that you are making a difference in our community. Have a wonderful Holiday Season!

WHY SHouLD I Pre-reGISTer? - Often, in thenewsletter, you will be asked to register at theReception Desk. It is important that you do so forseveral reasons.1. We sometimes cancel a class/trip due to low registration. If you are interested and do not signup, you might miss out on a class/trip that you areinterested in.2. If a class is cancelled and you are not registered,we can’t call you to notify you of the cancellation. Then you come to the Center and are disappointedthat you have made the trip for a cancelled class. 3. Instructors will often ask us for a number of registrations. This helps them to prepare for theclass and make the appropriate number of handouts. 4. Room assignments might be able to beadjusted to accommodate a smaller or larger group, but this too depends on the number of registrations. ~Thank you!

Mill Square Shopping Center at 1252 Capitol Trail. The new home will allow them to serve additionalclients each day in a brand new facility. A Medical Adult Day Center is appropriate for individuals who

need some supervision throughout the day in a homelike environment. Senior Care of Newark isproud to serve families and members of New Castle County. Please contact Susana Cebula at

FITNESS CENTER CORNERHappy Holidays! The last thing you need is tocatch a cold during these busy few weeks. Hereare some tips to try and prevent that. First, makesure to wash your hands when you’re out andabout. The water should be warm, you should usesoap and wash for at least 20 seconds. If soapand water are not available, carry a little handsanitizer in your pocket. Second, cover your mouthwhen you cough or sneeze. The most importantpart about covering when you cough or sneeze isthat you cover with your elbow! Do not cough intoyour hand. You will spread your germs that way.Third, eat a healthy, well-balanced diet. Nutritiousfood will give you the energy to fight colds.Lastly, if you think you are coming down withsomething, stay home. In the cold months, whenwe are cooped up indoors, germs circulate easily. It is best to stay home and recover than to putothers at risk. Stay healthy people!

Themedia are filled with skepticism toward the Bible. We hear that a book compiled many centuries agomust be riddled with myth, legend, folktale, andoutright fiction. To think that it’s a reliable sourceof history is naïve, and to make it the basis of a personal religious faith is pure folly. This is the 21stcentury: an age of practical politics, personal computing, and social networking!
